One example of duality in Romeo and Juliet is how Juliet tells Romeo they are moving too quickly in their relationship yet she comes right back and asks him to marry her. “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”; does she really know what she wants? Another example of duality is how their families can’t get a long while Romeo and Juliet are alive yet when they die the feud ends and the families are at peace. Lastly in Romeo and Juliet is the fact that Romeo and Juliet are supposed to hate each other but yet they love each other. According to their families and the feud that has taken place for years they are not supposed to fall in love, they are supposed to fall in line with the rest of the family and hate each other. Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a story of two young lovers. These two hearts, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet belong to feuding families. The family feud causes them to keep their love a secret and therefore only Romeo, Juliet, Benvolio, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence know of their love. Romeo and Juliet are able to look past the feud and let themselves fall in mad love with the other. They let themselves do almost anything for the other and at times it seems like too much to do, even for the one they love. Although fate and character traits play a key role in the play, ultimately Rome and Juliet’s personal choices lead to their downfall.Fate originates all of the conflicts in Romeo and Juliet, from when they met until they die.

Conflict has many different meanings for both physical and verbal abuse. Conflict could be a viscous feud or a full on physical fight. These days in television soap dramas we intend to see more verbal conflict than physical violence. But over the last couple of years new television programmes have been released which contains a lot of action-packed fighting and physical conflict of some kind. Some programmes include physical and verbal conflict including, “Eastenders”, “The Bill” and other programmes similar to these. The releasing of films such as, “Indiana Jones”, and “Rambo” catches the audience’s attention by involving action-packed, exciting features such as heavy arguments or thrilling battles. Some films are made to include action and excitement but when audiences watch it they cannot help feeling sorry for the victim or just generally sad for the people having the fight. In the same way Romeo and Juliet presents conflict more intense than most soap dramas. When the play was first performed in “The Theatre”, in Shoreditch in the mid 1590’s, the Elizabethan audience was shocked at how Juliet disobeyed her father and also how Romeo and Juliet disobeyed their families. Sympathy must be felt for the audience because they would have never known the idea of a son or daughter disobeying their father. The law at that time stated that the daughter was the property of her father until the daughter got married then her husband “owned” her as property. From this sympathy must be felt for Juliet because she is a victim of arranged marriages. When the play was first performed it got massive great responses which then lead to the play being transferred to The Globe theatre at the start of the 1600’s. Props and different costumes helped ...

In this play, there are many paradoxical themes expressed through the text for example good versus evil, love versus hate, and many more. All these paradoxes are communicated through figurative language, characterization, sound devices, and literary foils. These are literary devices that authors use to help readers to visualize
Duality is a recurring theme in literature; both modern and classic works reference in numerous ways. It is the idea that everything, no matter what, is two sided, hence it being called duality. There are two works of literature that are considered the best to represent what duality is and what it can stand for: Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. These two discuss the effects of duality and the duality of the human nature.
Who would be willing to die for their loved ones? Romeo and Juliet would and did. Romeo and Juliet’s love and death brought two families together who could not even remember the origin of their hate. When the parents saw what their children's love for each other, they realized that their fighting had only led to suffering and insoluble conflict. Romeo and Juliet loved each other to an extent that they killed themselves rather than live apart. They did it with no hiatus. Juliet says before she kills herself, “O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die.”( 5, 3, 182-183) demonstrating how she would rather die than not be with him.
Duality are opposites being evil or good, love or hate, life or death. In the story of Romeo and Juliet one of the Friars makes a connection between man and a plant. The Friar states “In man as well as herbs, grace and rude will” ( Act II Scene III Line 35-6 ) this comparison is conveying how closely human's nature is related to those of plants. Both have power to be used as medicine but have enough potential to be used as something harmful. The story of Romeo and Juliet is full of opposites, including the two main families: the Montagues and the Capulets they have been sworn to hate each other. The two main characters that fall in love with each other are from different families. Romeo and Juliet are suppose to feel loathe against each other, but on the contrary they fall in love. When Juliet finds out of the devastating news that Romeo is a Montague, she states “My only love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown known too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me, that i must love a loathed enemy”(Act I Scene V Line 53-4). The hatred between the families caused the deaths of Juliet and Romeo. The deaths are a used as pathway for both families to live in peace. Prince Escalus sums it up by saying “a glooming peace this morning with it brings. The sun for shadow will not show his head (Act V Scene III Line 309-310 )”. By saying this he is trying to tell us that out of misery and woe
The theme of duality in found in the world’s most famous works of literature. Duality is described as the relationships between good and evil, love and hate, and life and death, etcetera. It is ultimately the relation between two opposites that is shown and expressed throughout something. One can find duality in everything they come into contact with, for anything could be used to cause two different outcomes. It is found not only in works of the past, but it is very common in today’s works as well. The Novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde exhibits examples of duality such as Dr. Jekyll battling his other self, Mr. Hyde. Romeo and Juliet and To Kill a Mockingbird are two other examples of great works of literature that explore duality.
The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about a forbidden love between two hateful households which tragically ends in death. It begins with Romeo’s broken heart from a dainty lady and a lively masquerade where two lone souls come together. However, their love for one another was doomed at birth for both households had a constant hatred for one another. Infatuation, rage, and sadness contribute to an unhealthy relationship between Romeo and Juliet.
Duality is a combination of opposites, such as good and evil, love and hate, or life and death. It is used to explore things such as suppression, law breaking, and the unpredictability of human nature. It has been presented in many literary works, such as The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Romeo and Juliet, and “The Fall of The House of Usher”. The theme of duality is used in these three stories to convey new thoughts and concepts.
‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare incorporates the theme of conflict through many different characters and situations. The definition of conflict is “a fight, battle, or struggle; especially a prolonged struggle; strife” The play mainly focuses on the tragic lives of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet; the two characters belong to the Montague and Capulet households respectively, which have held ongoing grudges against each other for years. The play ends with both main characters committing suicide, to be together in heaven. As with many of Shakespeare’s works, the theme of conflict is a strong one. For a start, there is the ongoing conflict between the two families; the Montagues and the Capulets. The audience is unsure how this grudge started; this reflects how tedious some ongoing grudges can be. This is a vital conflict to keep the structure of the story, as without this conflict Romeo and Juliet would not have encountered the problems they had with their marriage. However, there are different ways of putting this grudge across - through dialogue, such as Mercutio’s intell...
Throughout the tragedy Shakespeare foreshadows the conclusion numerous times by adding clues toward what will happen next. In addition, when in times of despair Juliet constantly will resort to comparing good to bad. Finally, adolescent decision making is truly perceived to be ignorant. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet’s tragic fate was able to end a feud that had torn apart two families for several generations. The theme that people cannot escape their own fate is shown through the motif light and dark. Although Romeo and Juliet entered the dark together they now will spend eternity in the light.
Shakespeare makes his characters contrast using their opposing viewpoints to balance their relationship. their viewpoints as a foil between them. Romeo continuously speaks of a shield of his love protecting him from this danger, while Juliet presents a mature view on how this could endanger their lives for a love that might not be true. Up in the Orchard, after the Capulet Ball, Romeo puts himself in danger to see Juliet. If caught by the watch, “they will murder thee [Romeo].” (2.2.70), yet Romeo exhibits desperation through “love’s light wings” (2.2.66) carrying him safely to Juliet. Romeo’s senses are blinded by his passion for Juliet as he continuously challenges his ability and luck through an undying thirst for love. This sets an immature standing point for Romeo only, using his heart to guide him rather to his head. Opposed to Romeo, Juliet’s views onto the situation come off as more realistic and matured examination of her prohibited love. She remains question the thought if Romeo only loved her of being “cunning[beautiful] than to be strange[reserved]”(2.2.101), at which she realizes that this love could quite possibly be of her beauty, than her character. Unlike her lover, Shakespeare makes Juliet out to become more idealistic to the idea of love and longing. Her character’s concise thoughts describe a mature theme of asking “What is a Montague?” (2.2.40) as if the names plagued onto the
