All stories have conflict. Conflict is used to make a story interesting. Conflicts allows characters to interact with one another in different ways to reveal their personality. The main conflict in “Seventh Grade” is internal. It takes place in Victor’s Mind. In “Melting Pot” the conflicts are external. They take place between groups of people. In an essay, write about whether these conflicts have winners. In “Seventh Grade” the conflict is internal. Victor’s mind is where all of the conflict takes place. In the story Victor has a huge crush on a girl named Theresa. He takes his elective with Theresa and acts like he knows French to impress her. They take place between groups of people. In the story a lady lives next to a family that is Ecuadorian. The Father speaks some Spanish while the mother speaks less. The two daughters speak almost none and the son speaks none whatsoever. In the story they are all friends and get along while other people (because of their race/color, the way they act, and just who they really are) fight all the time. She used to live in an apartment near some Latinos who were really loud. When they moved out everyone got excited. They all used to fight because of the way they lived (being really loud and obnoxious). Everyone didn’t get along but some put aside their differences. Back then people didn’t get along, for example if you were white you didn’t get along with blacks. Its called segregation. That is an example of external conflict. This story does have a winner in conflict. Finally, both of these stories have winners in their own way. The melting pot has winners because at the end everyone realized to put away their differences and get along. In “Seventh Grade” has winners because he tried to get Theresa to like him and he thought it wouldn’t work. In the end it did and now they both like each
