The event that I chose to attend was the production of A Chorus Line, directed by Michael Bennet, at the Community Theatre of Greensboro on September 15th. I chose this event because I have always enjoyed going to plays and the theatre has always been fascinating to me. I also wanted to be able to check out downtown Greensboro, which was very nice and had a lot of very interesting people. Another reason why I chose this event was because I was invited to go to the show by a friend that I have made from this class, which is also very exciting. This event felt very exciting for a multitude of reasons. For me there has always been a sense of excitement and magic surrounding musical theatre in general for me. Specifically, this event felt very special because it was my first time going to this theatre which meant I would be not only seeing a new show but also seeing and experiencing a new place that would be full of new people. So even though going to the theatre was not a new experience for me, it was a new experience in this theatre in this town. I have been to multiple shows in my …show more content…
I am hoping that I can turn watching new shows at the Community Theatre of Greensboro into a common activity for myself. Watching people showcase their talents on stage is one of my favorite pass times and I would never pass up an opportunity to watch a play. This play itself was a lot of fun to watch because it was a musical and a comedy and that was a very interesting combination to watch. I would also like to see more shows directed by the director of this show because I think that he did a very wonderful job. In addition to seeing more from the director I would also like to see more from the local actors from this community. There are more shows coming up at this theatre that I am very interested in going to
The concert that I attended last Friday was an interesting one where I got to have some new experiences and learn about classical music.
Documentary theater, sometimes referred to as verbatim theater, attempts to bring social issues to the stage. Many times, theater has a hard time staying current and discussing the issues of today, and although some might argue that theater should an escape from the problems of the world, documentary theater’s aims to bring to light. If given the opportunity to create a documentary theater piece, I think it would be really interesting to talk about immigration to the United States. The United States was built, in part, by immigrants—and the nation has long been the beneficiary of the new energy and ingenuity that immigrants bring. Today, over 13 percent of the nation’s residents are foreign-born.
Anger can be partly physiological, cognitive, and psychological, and it is also pointedly ideological. Factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, nation, and religion arouse anger (Kim1). Goldhor-lerner stated that:
Theatre-In-Education The theatre education industry/movement has seen some rapid changes since its initial developments and establishment in the 1960’s. However its origins mainly lie in the early years of the last century. It was the initial establishment of companies such as Bertha Waddell’s in Scotland and Esme Church’s in the north of England that thoroughly established the main roots of TIE.
Theatre serves to reflect society. From Shakespeare to Sophocles, a playwright’s work illustrates the different mechanics within a culture or time period or society. Theatre offers viewers the experience of taking a step back and looking in on themselves. In this way, theatre is a mirror for the world and the way it functions.
In this paper, I will be focusing briefly on my knowledge and understanding of the concept of Applied theatre and one of its theatre form, which is Theatre in Education. The term Applied Theatre is a broad range of dramatic activity carried out by a crowd of diverse bodies and groups.
In early 20th century, many countries were not in a good situation because of major world wars and thus, people in the developing countries had a difficulty with living because they had lack of money, which most likely dreamed about American Dream. As these immigrants settle up a family, there are differences such as cultural between two generations. Since their grown up backgrounds are different, the primary dreams or goals are different. Big Money, by Dinaw Mengestu, not only conveys the foreigner’s American Dream but also the cultural difference of a family nicely. The background of the novel set up in Chicago, one of the biggest cities in America, and there are two different life coexisted: life of immigrants and life of the author.
The festival I have picked to do is the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. I thought this festival was interesting because it is not just an average festival with delicious food, live music and countless family and friend activities, but a festival to celebrate and honor a friendship between two countries. I think that this is a festival everyone should go and see at least once in their life.
Theatre will always survive in our changing society. It provides us with a mirror of the society within which we live, and where conflicts we experience are acted out on stage before us. It provides us with characters with which we identify with. The audience observes the emotions and actions as they happen and share the experience with the characters in real time.
Before I started Introduction to Theatre class, I had been only to a couple of plays in my life. Just in this semester I’ve been to about ten plays and have learned so much about the art of theatre. The information I retained from class will help out a lot in the future, but the most important part of this class was the shadowing experience of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With being able to get an inside look at this play during rehearsal and then going to see the performance was an incredible experience. By going to the rehearsal and then seeing the show, I was able to learn and understand more on how the theatre works. From there, I could understand the long process the actors and directors have to go through before the opening show happens.
My experience watching a live theatre performance on stage was a fascinating one, most especially since it was my first time. I attended a staged performance of “The History Boys” in a small theatre called “The Little Theatre of Alexandria” at 8:00 pm on Wednesday June 8, 2016 in Alexandria, Virginia. The overall production of the play was a resounding experience for me particularly the performance of the actors and the design of the scene made the play seem real.
For thousands of years, people have been arguing that theatre is a dying art form. Many people think theatre is all just cheesy singing and dancing or just boring old Shakespeare, but there is much more to theatre than those two extremes. Theatre is important to our society because it teaches us more about real life than recorded media. Theatre has been around for thousands of years and began as a religious ceremony that evolved into an art form that teaches about the true essence of life. Theatre can incorporate profound, and provocative, observations of the human condition that can transcend time; lessons found in Greek plays can still be relevant to the modern world. People argue that the very essence of theatre is being snuffed out by modern
The final two events were the most entertaining. The first of the final two events we would be attending was Country Tonight. They had so many wonderful, talented singers there. The entire night I had chills running up and down my whole body. I could barely contain my enthusiasm and jumped to my feet after every performance. The night was filled with beautiful costumes and outstanding performances; however, the best part of that night was when they brought out all of the singers and performed an amazing medley of songs. A marvelous firework display was their
I had never really been to a big concert that had a well-known band. A couple of weeks before the concert I got some information about it, but really didn't think much of it. I talked with some friends about the band and we all casually decided to go get tickets for it. Little did I know what an absolutely spectacular time I would have.
My favorite musical moment during the event was when the band explained the meaning of a few songs performed. Each song announced had a different meaning and a different reason for it being written. For example, the one song was written after the Cleveland Cavaliers won the championship game and how they felt. This was interesting to hear because if you’ve grown up in Ohio for your whole life, you understand what that game meant to everyone. To hear how a song/ why a song was created was a unique experience, especially when for once you are able to relate to it. Honestly, it made the songs more interesting, since you were able to feel the passion for that song along with them!
