Wilbur and Orville Wright were born into a close and caring family of seven people in the late 1860 's. Their father, Milton Wright, who was a bishop in the Church of the United Brethren, was also quite strict, stood by his wife, and their mother, Susan Wright, the daughter of a skilled carriage maker, who was mechanically skilled and taught the children how to build things from young ages. Despite living a normal childhood, neither Wilbur nor Orville Wright finished high school. Wilbur and Orville were much closer than most siblings although they still had small fights. Of their relationship, Wilbur even said "From the time we were little children, my brother, Orville, and myself lived together, played together, worked together, and, in fact, thought together. We usually owned all of our toys in common, talked over our thoughts and aspirations so that nearly everything that was done in our lives had been the result of conversations, suggestions, and discussions between us."¹ In 1887 their father, Milton, brought home a rubber band powered flyer which despite many personal thoughts wouldn’t fall to the ground immediately, rather it would sputter through the air for a while before slowly coming to a stop on the ground. Lindbergh’s passion for mechanics didn’t come as a surprise to many. As a young boy, Charles seemed to be very interested in the family’s motorized vehicles, such as the Saxon Six automobile and Excelsior motorbike. But after starting college in the fall of 1920 as a mechanical engineer, his love for aviation started to bloom. Deciding that the field of aviation was more exciting, he dropped out within 2 years. He then decided to take lessons at the Nebraska Aircraft Corporation’s flying school and was up in the air for the first time on April 9, 1922 when he was in a two seat biplane as a passenger. But his solo flight would not be until May 1923 at the Souther Field in Americus, Georgia, an old flight training field where Lindbergh came to buy a World War I Curtiss JN-4 “Jenny” biplane. It only took half an hour to practice with another pilot at the field to decide that Lindbergh was ready to fly the plane himself. After a week of practicing, Lindbergh took off on his biplane on his first solo cross country flight and few weeks after that, achieving his first nighttime flight near Arkansas, both marking huge milestones for the young pilot.
Charles Lindbergh studied mechanical engineering and he was the first person to solo travel for non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean on 1927. He was trained in the US Army as an Army Air Reserve pilot and he worked as an airmail pilot after his training under the U.S Army. The Air Mail Act 1925 was the first legislation targeted to free airmail services from controlled Post Office Department. His influence in aviation industry shown that one pilot can cross in a long distance with no accurate forecast and a 34 hours flight to Paris which made him as an international hero.
Two of the readings assigned that stuck out to me were the detailed journals of famous European explorers Christopher Columbus and Samuel de Champlain. These writings discuss their observations and experiences during their explorations to the New World. “Letters of Columbus, Describing the Results of his First Voyage” by Columbus and “From the Voyages of Samuel de Champlain” by Champlain both contrast in their opinion of the worth of the New World’s lands as well as their interactions with the Natives that these explorers came across.

Wilbur was the older brother born in Millville, Indiana 1867 and Orville was born after him in Dayton, Ohio 1871. Wilbur and Orville Wright were pioneers, skilled craftsman, and engineers not only in aviation but in many other trades as well. “They loved to tinker and experiment with mechanical things and it characterized the Wrights through out their lives. Each of the brothers had a deeply ingrained inquisitive streak that was nurtured in a home that was encouraged.” (Moolman, 1980, p. 107) They had a good family upbringing, but moved frequently. The Wright brothers paved the way for aviation to take off with their thoughts, ideas, and inventions.
The evidence shows that because of the Wright brothers' methods of testing, and their focus on developing lift and control, they were able to beat the crowd of enthusiastic aviation experimenters in the race for flight. Wilbur and Orville Wright were two men who worked very hard in understanding and putting to work the principles of flight in building a successful and practical aircraft. All their hard work paid off when, on that historic day in 1903, they finally made the first powered flight. The Wright brothers' invention has changed the world, and they will always be remembered as the two men who flew first.

Many authors have different types of writing and different ways of telling the story regardless of whether it is a horror type of story, a romantic type of story or even a comedy type of story. However, in this story by Susan Glaspell, it is a fiction type story which is about Mrs. Wright who seems to have lost control of her emotions and snaps. She kills her abusive husband which is found dead with a rope around his neck while she was asleep, but nobody knows her motive of killing him. The inequality between Mrs. Wright and Mr. Wright, which is based in gender, affects Mrs. Wright’s sense of enjoyment of life, which explains Mrs. Wright’s motive for the murder. Factors like, loneliness, depression, and lack of freedom justifies how Mrs. Wright sense of enjoyment of life was negatively affected and they are the reason for Mrs. Wright to murder her husband.
Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier are two very prominent names in the field of architecture. Both architects had different ideas concerning the relationship between humans and the environment. Their architectural styles were a reflection of how each could facilitate the person and the physical environment. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture and Le Corbusier s Villa Savoye helped define the progression that modern architecture was to take in the 20th Century. Both men are very fascinating and have strongly influenced my personal taste for modern architecture. Although Wright and Corbusier each had different views on how to design a house, they also had similar beliefs. This paper is a comparison of Frank Lloyd Wright‘s and Le Corbusier ‘s viewpoints exhibited through their two prominent houses, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House and Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye.
The trials and tribulations of flight have had their ups and downs over the course of history. From the many who failed to the few that conquered; the thought of flight has always astonished us all. The Wright brothers were the first to sustain flight and therefore are credited with the invention of the airplane. John Allen who wrote Aerodynamics: The Science of Air in Motion says, “The Wright Brothers were the supreme example of their time of men gifted with practical skill, theoretical knowledge and insight” (6). As we all know, the airplane has had thousands of designs since then, but for the most part the physics of flight has remained the same. As you can see, the failures that occurred while trying to fly only prove that flight is truly remarkable.
The history of flying dates back as early as the fifteenth century. A Renaissance man named Leonardo da Vinci introduced a flying machine known as the ornithopter. Da Vinci proposed the idea of a machine that had bird like flying capabilities. Today no ornithopters exist due to the restrictions of humans, and that the ornithopters just aren’t practical. During the eighteenth century a philosopher named Sir George Cayley had practical ideas of modern aircraft. Cayley never really designed any workable aircraft, but had many incredible ideas such as lift, thrust, and rigid wings to provide for lift. In the late nineteenth century the progress of aircraft picks up. Several designers such as Henson and Langley, both paved the way for the early 1900’s aircraft design. Two of the most important people in history of flight were the Wright Brothers. The Ornithopter was a machine made by Leonardo Da Vinci as a possible flying machine. He wrote 35,000 words and over 500 sketches talking about the flying machines, nature of air and how birds fly. His studies of birds made him discover that birds change direction by slightly adjusting their tail and wing. The Wright Brother later used slight changes in the crafts to change direction. He also noted that shifting weight could control flight which is what glider pioneers would do in the late nineteenth century. He wrote that a light structure was essential in an aircraft, even hinting at gravity which Newton later discovers. Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867, in Millville, Indiana, and Orville was born four years later in Dayton, Ohio, on August 19 (Kelly 5).
