The album The World From the Side of the Moon was the debut album from Phillip Phillips. This record’s genre is pop rock. The album has only two hit songs which are “Home” and “Gone, Gone, Gone.” After listening to the CD multiple times, it was found to be uninspiring. Some critic websites, including Slant Magazine, Rolling Stone, and AllMusic, give this album a mediocre rating of two and a half out of five stars.
Phillip Phillips is the only musician playing on this album (vocals and guitar). The main producer is Gregg Wattenberg. Phillips wrote or co-wrote three of the songs on this album, and the remaining songs were written by other people, mainly his family members. Phillips is fairly new to the music industry. In 2012, Phillip Phillips won season 11 of American Idol, which launched his music career. His first track, “Home”, was released on May 23rd, 2012, which won Phillip Phillips the American Idol title and a Billboard Top Rock Song award. The World From the Side of the Moon is Phillip Phillips’ first album, which was released on November 19, 2012. His next album, Behind the Light, was released in 2014. One quote that represents this is from the track “Home”, when Phillip Phillips sings,“The trouble it might drag you down, when you get lost you can always be found, just know you're not alone.” Here, Phillips seems to be saying that no matter what happens in life, someone will be there to assist. Another quote that illustrates this message is from his song “Gone, Gone, Gone.” The lyrics read,“When you fall like a statue, I’m gon’ be there to catch you.” Similarly, these lyrics indicate that even through hard times, you will be helped. In this first album by Phillip Phillips, he displays how he will write his next songs and albums to come. Broadly, his next album will likely be a mix of pop and rock with an uplifting

Sing Down The Moon by Scott O’Dell. The setting takes place in the Navaho tribe in Arizona, between the time periods of 1863 to 1865. The lands of Arizona are very dry & some parts are grassy. There are many Indian Tribes that plant their own crops, and take their sheep to mesas where they graze & then sheared to survive. Indians have to do a lot to keep their tribes healthy and strong, including many jobs to accomplish. Then there are the Long Knives, enslavers of the Indians.
Chapter Three: Symbolism: Why are the notes so important? I think that one of the most obvious symbols in this story is the notes Ms. Partridge sent to Phoebe and her family. These notes seemed to line up with problems in the story, throughout the whole story. “Don’t judge a man until you’ve walked two moons in his moccasins.” (Walk Two Moons, 61).
Billie Holiday’s “Blue Moon” was featured in her 1952 album Billie Holiday Sings produced by Norman Granz. This Jazz standard was originally written in 1935 by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart who were contracted by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to write songs for Hollywood Movies. Perhaps the most epic and original Jazz singer in history, Billie’s voice had a quality like no other. With strength she had remarkable melodic sensitivity and phrasing, allowing her to master the art of evoking emotion. With her “Broken Voice” due to her life experiences and a powerful elegance this vocal jazz love song along with her entire jazz ensemble, was some of the best of her last.
“Over There” is a song written by George M. Cohan in 1917. Nora Bayes, Enrico Caruso, Billy Murray, Arthur Fields, and Charles King were among many who recorded the song. It was written as a propaganda piece encouraging young American men to join the army to fight in World War I. The song was incredibly popular, selling over two million copies of sheet music and one million copies of recordings by the end of the war. Cohan, the writer, was eventually even awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his work on this song.
The album The Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd was an album that pushed the boundaries on multi-tracking and tape looping, as well as mixing in1973. The engineer, Alan Parsons, use many unusual techniques to help create the sound that we know and love. Which landed the album on the charts for 750 weeks. Dark side of the moon was first lead engineering job Alan had with Pink Floyd and only took a year to record.
Stephen Chbosky wrote, “We accept the love we think we deserve.”. The artist Shawn Mendes wrote the song “Stitches”. The author, Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote the poem “How do I love thee”. The song “Stitches” emanates a negative tone. The poem “How do I love thee” gives off a positive tone. Both “Stitches” along with “How do I love thee” have similarities and differences; nonetheless, Shawn Mendes uses a negative tone to make listeners feel a dispirited heartbroken mood, whereas Elizabeth Barrett Browning uses a positive mood which causes the reader to feel a caring compassionate mood. By observing the song and poem together, I have come to the conclusion that although they have various similarities, there are numerous differences than there are similarities.
Fifteen years before Neil Armstrong stepped foot on the moon, one of Belgium’s most successful bande dessine´e which is a specific type of artist named, Herge, sent his “hero” named Tintin to the moon in his book called Destination Moon (Beauvais,PClementine 252). In the human mind the moon can be interpreted as many different things. For example, some may think the moon is a god, Heaven, Hell, or sometimes even as a whole other Earth (Springer 252). When Herge was born at the beginning of the twenty century a piece of literature called From the Earth to the Moon written by Jules Verne’s was possible where the ideas of the moon stem from (Goddin 100). NASA is planning on sending humans back to the moon in a mission called “solid beginnings” in the future. For the past three decades the moon hasn’t been the main focus with all of the other planets such as: Venus and Mars (Lawer 612).Some people believe that the core of the moons material raised up and went to the sur...
This song “Bad Luck” can be used throughout most of the story of the Red Candle..In the book it talks about that it was bad luck on their wedding day.In the song it talks about having bad luck even tho the marriage was on a bad day it was in a perfect day because of the moon that stays big and perfectly round that day once every year. Also comparing the the book and the song Lindo who was basically the unlucky had to marry Tyan-Yu.She cried and the song even says “Gonna hang your head down and cry”meaning that it's still going to happen even if you cry.Throughout most of the book Lindo is unlucky she.Forced to go live with a different family and is forced to get married.Theses things that are happening towards her she does not want them. But
In the song “Blue Skies”, written by Irving Berlin, you are able to get a feel for what life was like in the 1920s. The song gave good vibes and made everything seem perfect and great because in the 1920s, life was good. In one of the verses, when he wrote about how everyday was a cloudy day he was referencing to the recently fought World War I. “Blue Skies” was written in order to display the joy and happiness that was circulating the nation during the 1920s right after the first World War. The meaning behind the title “Blue Skies” is that the skies always seemed bluer because everything in the country was going great during the 1920s. Also, the song “Blue Skies” was written with the intent to have an
Each single gives a fair representation of what the rest of the album is like. While the album is definitely more blues than psychedelic, many of the songs have a few psychedelic touches, like the sitar-like sound in “Dance The Night Away”. The most psychedelic songs on the album are the singles “SWLABR” and “Tales Of Brave Ulysses”; The lyrics to “SWLABR” make little sense, and discuss a woman who is like a bearded rainbow, “You’ve got that rainbow feel but the rainbow has a beard”. “The Tale Of Ulysses” lyrics don’t make much sense either; they just describe a fantastical land with mermaids and Aphrodite. While the instruments used aren’t specifically psychedelic, the wah-wah guitar, fuzz box, electric guitar, and drums work well together to give each song a rocky psychedelic
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well. The song’s message was eventually supposed to bring people together and make the world a better place, even though some teens saw it as a way
John henry was an African American folk hero, whom set a task to hammer a steel drill into a rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing of a railroad tunnel. However, he had a threat John Henry was faced against the steam powered hammer and he was only willing to die victories with a hammer in his hands. People began to make plays, songs and novels. Including a version of the classic song by Harry Belafonte's. Furthermore, as I read the lyrics of the version of the classic song I picked up on the genre of the classic song. In addition, I believe the genre is a non-fiction. What led me to this was when I analysed the lyrics and I realized Belafonte was telling the story of John Henry through
This essay describes the peace, protest and antiwar in the sixties with reference to the Vietnam War. The two songs “Universal Soldier” by Sainte-Marie and “Masters of War” by Bob Dylan. Both songs are sung by different-different artists but the main idea behind the song is totally related to war peace and protest for life against white people in 1960.
