The Wizard of Oz is a classic story that has been told in numerous ways. The first version I will tell about is the movie version, the book version, and finally the Michael Jackson version. The Michael Jackson version is called “The Wiz” but the book version and the movie version are both known as The Wizard of Oz. I will talk about the differences between all of the versions. They all have the same basic plot but are told in different ways.
The movie was originally shot in sepia-toned, black and white, and Technicolor. This movie was an all-American classic. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture in 1939. In the movie the Land of Oz is a dream that Dorothy is having. Dorothy only comes across two witches, Glinda, the good Witch of the North and the wicked Witch of the West. The wicked Witch of the West is the main villain and is constantly out to get Dorothy and her dog throughout her time in Oz. In the movie Dorothy wears ruby shoes. Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion do not have to wear special glasses before entering Emerald City like they had to do in the book.
In the book the Land of Oz is real. Dorothy also comes across three women along the way. The good Witch of the North, Glinda, the good Witch of the South, and the Queen of the Field Mice are the good women that she comes across on her way to Emerald City. The wicked Witch of the West appears near the end of the story. Dorothy wears silver slippers instead of ruby slippers like in the movie. Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion do have to wear special glasses when they enter Emerald City. L. Frank Baum wrote this book and dedicated it to his wife. It was published in the year 1900. It is now cla...

The movie and the book versions are somewhat similar, but the Michael Jackson version is very different. The witches have different names except Glinda but she is known as the good Witch of the South instead of the good Witch of the North. It also takes place in Harlem, New York and has an all-African American cast. Overall the basic plots of the different versions are the same, but the way they are told are somewhat different.

The Wiz live was performed on NBC during December 3, 2015. The film was adapted from the original film in 1975 Broadway musical, The Wizard of Oz. The Wiz live played off the story of a young girl by the name of Dorothy, who is teased by her aunt Em at the age of 24. While eating lunch, Dorothy’s dog, Toto runs away and gets caught in a bad storm. Dorothy runs after Toto and successfully gets him, but finds herself trapped in a twister of snow. Dorothy is soon introduced to Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, who takes her into the realm of the oz. In being transported to the realm of oz, Dorothy smashes through a sky sign killing Evermean, the Wicked Witch of the East. Dorothy manages to free all the Munchkins who ruled the playground and
The point of views are alike when comparing the two stories while the mood that the setting creates is different. Dr. Seuss, a children’s book author, said, “You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back and relax, all you need is a book.” Two books that are magical are People Call Me Crazy and Good
In “The Wizard Of Oz”, Dorothy is a meek teenager while in “The Wiz” Dorothy was a 24 year old school teacher. Both scarecrows are quite smart despite not having a brain, but the Scarecrow portrayed in “The Wiz” is much more timid than the original. The Tinmen that are shown are probably the most different as far as characters go. In the original film, the Tinman is all silver. They find him in the woods where he had been there for almost an entire year because he rusted. The Tinman in “The Wiz”, however, is quite different. He appears to be a bunch of random parts put together and is not silver at all. For the most part, their personalities are the same except the Tinman in “The Wiz” cries an alarming amount of tears. Both cowardly lions have the same personality, as in “believe they’re cowards but are actually the bravest of the four.” They both also used the be kings, but when found the lion in the “Wizard Of Oz” is found in a forest while in “The Wiz” the lion was a statue in front of a library. The last comparison are the two wizards. Both wizards first appeared as a giant floating head, but the discoveries of them were different. I personally feel like the discovery in the original film was more realistic. The group discovered him after Toto pulls back the curtain. In “The Wiz”, he is discovered sleeping in his bed. Dorothy begins to yell at him, but they do not
...are similar in both her ordinary and special worlds, and she must work throughout the rest of the film to resolve them. The Wizard of Oz can be analyzed in many different ways, but the depth of the plot is what gives this movie its timeless qualities making it a favorite still today, and one can’t also help to note how cinematically advanced this movie was for its time making it truly a masterpiece.

The Wiz is a musical/movie released in 1978 that was an adaptation of the popular film “Wizard of Oz”. It included several very popular stars of the time, which were Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Nipsey Russell. The movie set place in New York City where the main character, Dorothy, suddenly is swept by a tornado in the middle of a snowstorm. She later then found herself lost in a city she had no clue about and curious as to how she could return home. After meeting 3 other characters during her journey that share similarities, they all embarked on a trip to OZ to fix each of their problems. Throughout the movie characters apply their own soundtrack through singing songs in harmony that compliment the mood of each scene.
“Were off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz” One of the infamous phrases from one of the most well know classics of all time. The original movie titled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was made in 1939 by Frank Baum. This film featured stars such as Judy Garland, Jack Hayley and many others. This was not only a movie, it was a fantasy, and a musical storytelling adventure with unusual characters that shook the audience. This was one of the first films to make it to the big screen with color. Because of its success, this film has been remade many times with multiple different spins making it rhetorical. Over the years this film has become one of the best films of all time and is still watched today among all ages

Straight on shot, camera moves into Oz first through the door, followed by Dorothy appearing again in the foreground. Light symphonies playing magical music, birds are singing in the background.

The Tin Man, He represents the industrial worker whose heart has been torn out by the evils of factory work and industrialism. W.J. Bryan embodied the role of the cowardly lion. Bryan was a very loud and booming public speaker but was viewed as a coward because he did not support the Spanish-American war. OZ is the US. The emerald city is Washington D.C. filled with greenbacks and the wizard is the president. Dorothy and her “party” follow the yellow brick way, or gold standard, to find the wizard and fix her problem. When all along they way to fix her problem of how to get back home was to tap her ruby red shoes which were silver thus in the original book thus representing the Populists push for a silver standard.
Red ruby slippers. Green emerald city. Yellow brick road. These are just of the few iconic colors that bring to life The Wizard of Oz film. But before color even gets introduced, we see Dorothy in a monotone world of black and white with a sepia toned film. Set in the middle of Kansas, the viewer gets a sense of boredom and bareness. It seems as if the only people in that whole state are Dorothy, her immediate family and the farmhands! However, after her house gets lifted up and redeposited, she opens the door to a world of Technicolor. Your eyes are shocked as the screen is filled with various bright colors. The colors of Munchkin Land symbolize a vibrant, surreal, dreamlike adventure. It creates moods of happiness and security for the viewer as we are transported back to a world we know; color. In his article Color and Storytelling in Films, Robert Mills says, “Kansas is described as grey and lifeless whilst

These two films are not only similar on these surface levels, but also in their narrative structure and intent as well. Dorothy and Alice, both find themselves trapped in a world of their own fantasy, but with no context on how to navigate their way home. They are then lead by an array of strange characters who guide them on their journey. Dorothy meets the scarecrow, the tin man, the cowardly lion, and so on. While Alice crosses paths with the white rabbit, the cheshire cat, the mad hatter, and so on. With the assistance of their companions, both heroines maneuver their way through the challenges each fantasy presents. Perhaps the biggest similarity these films share narratively, is the underlying emphasis on empathy and perspective. Both

There is much to compare and contrast about return to Oz and the Wizard of Oz. Because the Return to Oz is not a musical it seems to be a darker tone. As in the Wizard of Oz they had all of those bright moments whenever someone began to sing. But in Return to Oz they don't even talk about over the rainbow or where Oz is. In my opinion Return to Oz was not a good sequel. Let's try to just focus on Dorothy.
The movie shows Dorothy’s adventure from her small Kansas town into the extravagant land of Oz. She must navigate her way through munchkins, forests, witches, and a yellow brick road, introducing many new characters on her path. Each new person gives insight into Dorothy’s personality. For example, her dog, Toto, who stayed with her from Kansas to Oz, is her closest friend back home and brings out the most caring side of her as she protects him through all the trials she faces in the new land. One of the first people she meets in Oz is the Scarecrow, who wants to accompany her on her route to the Wizard of Oz so he can ask for a brain. His belief that he lacks intellect reveals Dorothy’s ability to become the “brains” of the group. Following
