Risks are essence of life. In the beginning, they are our instinct. Risks are the essence of life. In the beginning, they are our instinct. We learn to crawl despite the bruises on our knees and elbows. We learn to walk despite the many falls we endure. But as we get older and gain a greater consciousness of the world around us, somewhere along the way we are presented with failure. At that point, we begin to fear the pain of failure and try to eliminate most risks from our life. However, where would we be without our sense of exploration, our willingness to and to try new things despite the pitfalls that await us? The saying goes, “No pain, no gain.” That attitude is characteristic of all great thinkers and innovators in our society.
It is easier to say than doing. I am also among people who are hesitant to take risks gladly. I usually stay in my comfort zone where I feel comfortable and easy. However I am constantly summoned to step outside of my comfort zone when I took Earlham Seminar “Who Dunnit?” In the first book assigned, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Covey instructed us how to be proactive by changing the way we see to the problems. Changing our perspective is taking a big risk for me. It is not easy to change our views of others in a moment. However, when I started to follow his instructions by seeing from different viewpoints, I begin to “see” more than I ever could. I become to see what others’ stand points and desires. When I see others’ weaknesses, I begin to see them with compassion, not judgments or accusations. I begins to see that the issue is not what they’re doing or should be doing. The issue is how I respond to the situation and what I should be doing. Paradigm shift taught ...

... taking is often discouraged because of its unpredictability. Contrary to popular belief, not all risk taking is bad. The need for security is one of the things that keeps us from taking risks. We have a need, as human beings, to want to stick to the familiar and predictable. We like things we can control and know well. But, as Hellen Keller said: "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." I agree with Hellen on this issue. We have to take risks to open more paths to opportunities in life. We cannot hide in the shadow of illusive security and let life’s opportunities pass by. I believe risks, if taken with wit, are the best doors to the best opportunities available in your life.
A successful person will always promote the taking of risks because a lot of times the best things in life happen when we feel scared and vulnerable. When risks are involved there is a great probability of failure. Failure is not necessarily a bad thing. Failures serve as learning experiences. Experiences where you can dissect what worked and what didn't work. But Gawande explains how, "the only failure is the failure to rescue something." He explains how risks are essential, but at the same time risks must be taken with a careful eye. The careful eye being that one must be able to distinguish when something has gone array and being able to control the situation. If you take a risk and things do not go as planned, this doesn't mean it’s a failure just yet. You must be able to adjust and attempt to rescue it. I took the risk of cheating. This does not mean it’s a failure just yet. I've become aware that things have not gone as planned. I have acknowledge that there is a problem. My job now is to change my current situation and attempt to rescue it. My situation should only be considered a failure, if and only if, I am unable to rescue and change my cheating
We live our entire lives caring about other people 's opinions of ourselves where they seem to become our own but they don’t have to. While most of us as we grow up will realize how foolish this was and be themselves anyway; It takes too long, as children we are not shown to be ourselves but shown to follow the crowd, the safe route. The younger generations need to see that risks can change your life for the better and let each of us live a happier more fulfilled
“…people need not fear the unknown if they are capable of achieving what they need and want" (79). Both protagonist learned about the dangers of fear through the tribulations of their journey. Although life may constantly though curveballs our way, it is important to learn how to take risks. One must to have the audacity to continue on. Odysseus, a courageous Greek hero, would not have made it very far if he was apprehensive of taking risks. Instead, he sought
Everyone has taken risks whether they be big or not, they will lead you down the path you choose in life. In the short stories Beowulf, Black Heart, and The Deep taking risks was a big part in all three. In Beowulf, there is many risks that he took, but the main one was that he risked his life to save the people that he loved. In the second book Black Heart by Mark Brazaitis, the girl risked her life to make friends with something she knew could kill her because she was so lonely. In the final book, The Deep by Anthony Doerr the main character made risks every day because he never knew if he was going to wake up to see the next.
Taking a risk is something very few people are willing to do. If you think about it all the greats had to take a risk before they succeed in anything. In The Odyssey, Odysseus takes a huge risk fighting in wars, trying to get back to his beloved Penelope. Much like Vincent Willem van Gogh , A painter, who took huge risks living off of his art, but now he is One of the greatest painters of all times. They both risked their lives to succeed in something great.Van Gogh could have gone broke and starved to death Odysseus could have died at sea or in war. People take risks every time they get up and present a paper or show people there art work. You could mess up, but you also could succeed. This quote from book twelve, “ But as I sent them on toward
We all know that staying safe will keep us alive, but it is a boring way to live. The biggest regret a person can have is never trying what they always wanted. As mentioned before, time never stops, so it is crucial that they act now. We fight a battle before we are even born against millions of others to see who will get to the egg first and be fertilized and born. We did not come to this world to just be safe and to be afraid to do new things. We all have a reason to be here and the journey of life is to find our purpose in life. It is what makes life so great, but to get their we must take risks and overcome that fear. People are afraid of taking risks because of failure. They are afraid to fail and not get anywhere. However, that fear can be overcome is they keep pushing and keep trying and keep taking risks. Taking risks will get a person out of their “safe” comfort zones and the result of this can be something so
Risky play is an important part of children’s play and children have shown a natural desire of outdoor risky play in the early years of ages (Brussoni, Olsen, Pike & Sleet, 2012). Risky play refers to play that allows children to feel excited and may lead to physical injury (Sandseter, 2007). In the video Adventurous play-Developing a culture of risky play, the interviewer Neville had discussed risky play with five educators. By consulting from this video, this report will provide rationales which are for creating opportunities for risky play in the child care centres, explain how to achieve the outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework through planning for risky play. It then attempts to analyse the observational learning in Bandura’s
Disappointment in financial risk management takes various structures, the greater part of which are exemplified in the present emergency. For instance, risk appraisals are regularly taking into account chronicled information, for example, changes in house costs after some time. Yet, fast financial advancement, including securitized subprime contracts, has made such information untrustworthy. Also, a few risks are missed on the grounds that they are covered up in excessively complex reports that leaders cannot get it (Stoian & Stoian, 2016).
Life is full of uncertainties. Risk lurks in every nook and corner of human life. In short, life is unpredictable. We need to be prepared for such circumstances. Leading a happy life, involves good planning and analysis for your personal health. Accidents do happen and you need to be prepared for such situations. In times of high health cost, you need to get covered for health risks.
I think the quote is explaining to take a risk, live for danger, and don’t be boring. I pick these three to explain the quote because if you don’t risk, you would think everything
Economics is probably the science that arguably has had the most impact in today’s times. In fact it can barely be called a science in a strict sense, since human behavior is not governed by laws of nature unlike other non living objects, which makes the prediction and forecasting stock prices, economic conditions all the more difficult. In recent decades economists have tried to give a more structured and mathematical explanation to their theories concerning how human beings make their decisions. However these theories have come under immense criticism as they don’t hold true in real time. In reality, human beings rarely behave rationally which is the basic assumption in many of the economic theories; rather we make a lot of our decisions based on our intuition and limited knowledge available to us. When the financial crisis of 2008 came upon us, a lot of questions were raised on the apparent predictive abilities of the various economic theories. Merely 12 economists were able to foresee the massive crisis which now shows signs of deepening into a double dip recession.
Not every event has a guaranteed outcome- sometimes, one has to take a gamble in the game of life. There are some, however, who would prefer to travel within the safe, confined lane of actions with a definite outcome. Deciding whether or not to take risks in life can be tricky, but as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.” This quote means that people should take risks in their endeavors, because life is precisely about trying new things and experiences. As the quote explains, taking risks in life is a vital step to success, fulfillment, and gaining more out of experiences.
In order to do this, I must be proactive. Being proactive means that in between the stimulus and response, there is a third stage. This stage is the freedom to choose, and it is full of self awareness, imagination, conscience, and independent will. Being proactive means that when I feel an impulse, I am able to make that impulse subordinate to the values I hold inside. I am still influenced by the stimuli, but I am aware of this influence and choose how I react to it. An outside stimulus can only affect me so much as I let it. It is not outside forces that help or hurt me, it is my reaction to those outside forces. My character, my basic identity, can only be impacted if I let it. By understanding that my most difficult experiences become the crucibles that forge my character, I can turn any circumstance in my favor. My basic nature is to act, rather than be acted upon. This is why it is key to take the initiative in every situation. Taking initiative means recognizing my responsibility to make things
No one should feel they did not take the high road in order to enable them to fulfill that one great adventure. Life is full of ups and downs; it could be described as a huge pot of gold with a few dingy stones mixed together. The dingy stones are the few misfortunes one may come across; the gold is what everyone wants, and hopefully attains. To achieve anything, one must take risks and not ask questions regarding tomorrow.
Life is not going to go that we want it to, but this fact should not keep us from overcoming fears or conquering any hardships. Family, fear, and a positive attitude can keep us going and assist us in triumphing over crosses that we might bare.
