The first example on how the children over rely on technology is when George turned off the nursery because he thought the nursery was a bad influence on their children. The author wrote "The two children were in hysterics. They screamed and pranced and threw things. They yelled and sobbed and swore and jumped at the furniture. This is showing how the children rely on technology too much. I can relate to this because my dad took away my laptop and i didn't like that one bit i was begging and begging to give it back and finally convinced my mom to give it back.I heg just like how the children convinced their parents to turn the nursery back on. Can you imagine how children do not seem to have any problems in learning how technology works now? It happens that almost every kid has their own laptop, cell phone, iPads or any other electronic devices. Who does not want to live in this world where doing homeworks and making your job much easier, right? If children nowadays are too lucky to have and learn these things while they are young, most of us grew up and experienced the life without technology. In "My Technologically Challenged Life" by Monica Wunderlich, she talked about the different struggles she had experienced in her house, school, workplace, and her car due to the lack of technology.
One day I had my phone taken away. It honestly seemed like the end of the world beings that it was my “whole world.” I used this device to communicate with my friends, watch ridiculous youtube videos, listen to my most favorite songs that was basically a part of my soul, and I even had it as an alarm. A part of me was gone I thought to myself, then it hit me. Undoubtedly, I relied too much on my phone to assist me, to entertain me. To be frank, I acted selfish, like a 4 year old who doesn’t get that stuffed animal after their mother said no a million times, when I had it confiscated. In the story “The Children Couldn’t Wait” by Tomas Rivera, he speaks of a family that is working, and can’t get water whenever they want. They have to wait for their boss to come back to ranch in order to get some water to drink. Which that lead to a dramatic cause. Also in the story “Unknown” the family is poor and doesn’t have enough money for many things. In order to get them, they go to school because they know that it will give them a better future. The theme for this is “ Hard work is the price we must pay for success.” For me this felt like a story taught me to keep working hard because no matter how hard you work, you will get paid back with a positive. action.
In the story “The Veldt,” the author Bradbury shows that technology has caused people to become dependent on it. Children these days are using iPads, iPhones, and other various types of technology for constantly checking social media or texting friends. That is causing children these days to become more dependent on technology where they are not able to live for a second without it. This is a problem because Bradbury tells us that technology has taken over the way people are behaving in society in a negative way. He is telling us that it is affecting the youth and adults in their day to day life. In this short story George says, “We’ve been contemplating our mechanical, electronic navels for too long. George in this quote is stressing on the point of how we humans have been too attached to technology; where it has changed us in the way we act. He got violent and started yelling at his parents, he used to actually address his parents with a “hi”. After the incident, he started threatening to kill his parents. In today’s society we are overwhelmed with technology. Technology is changing everyday, and will forever be a staple in our lives. The effect that technology has on our children has brought on some concerns and some praises. Children these days have no choice but to some how be influenced by the ever growing technology in our societies. Our common concern has been that although digital technology has boosted children’s talent for multitasking, their ability to process information deeply may be deteriorating (Carpenter, 2010). Many people have a wide range of opinions on if technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer to so many things, but there are three main parts of technology that are having the greatest effects on our children: video games, television/media, and computers. The modern technologies we have today are so powerful because they attract our genetic biases, that the human brain has a tremendous love for visually presented information. Video games, television, movies and computer programs are all very visually oriented and therefore they attract and keep the attention of children easily.
Children and young adults, especially high school students have very fulfilled lives( jobs, sports, friends, etc.).
