The Twilight Zone and the short stories are very different do to their qualities. In the movie and in the short stories there are different types of conflict that develops the characters. After Marsha had fainted, she woke up in the department store as the camera drew a shadow on her face. As she got up she looked around and did not see any people and no workers were there. She scurries around and tries to find a way out of the store. She tries each window and door and elevator and she cried for help, but no one answered back. As she walks around she stumbles into one of the manikin's and realized that it was the man in the elevator, she got up and started hearing voices and wept. She slowly starts walking away from the voices as she stumbled into the elevator and gets brought up to the ninth floor. When she gets to the top she is approached by the saleslady. In the short stories conflict takes place in all of them. In “The Sound of Thunder there is conflict when he goes off of the trail and kills the butterfly, he changes the world in the future. In “The Contents of a Dead Man's Body” the man has to go out on the ledge to get the paper that he lost out of his window. is conflict when they are trying to get to the other side and to get into Spain. Each of the stories has conflict and are all different and have a different mood. In the movie the setting is at the department store, on the ninth floor and on the third floor in the late 50s and 60s.
On the ninth floor it was spooky and scary where very odd strange things happened. On the third floor is where the elevator was and is where all the manikin's were. In the short stories, they all had different settings. In ”The Trip” the story took place on a boat with many people aboard trying to cross the ocean to get to Spain. The story was recent. In “The Contents of a Dead Man's Body” the story took place in the 50s, and was in an apartment. All of the stories have different settings. The movie and “The Contents of a Dead Man's Body” are set around the same time
period. The characters of all the stories are different are what make up the story. They set the mood of the story from how it feels to what is going on and what happens. In the movie, Marsha is very dramatic and sets the mood of the story at the department store. The other characters in the movie make up how Marsha feels. There are other characters like the sales woman and the elevator man. The manikin's make Marsha scared and frightened when they start moving and talking to her. When she is brought upstairs, all the manikin's start moving and talking about why she is there. The main character in “The Trip” is is Murad, he is determined to get across the ocean and all of the other passengers to the other side. The other people in the story make up the mood and tell us how they feel and what they are going through. All of the people have worked hard for the trip across and are worked and anxious. In conclusion, The Twilight Zone and the short stories are very different do to their qualities. The movie has different characters and a different setting then all the short stories. The values are also different and none of the stories have special effects.
... Their attitude and tone is something that can be contrasted in the two stories.
Firstly let us consider conflict. In each act of the play, we see the overpowering desire to belong leading to a climax of conflict amongst the characters, which has the consequence of exclusion. Conflict is a successful literary technique, as it engages the audience and focuses our attention on the issue of conflict and exclusion, brought about by the characters’ desires to be accepted by their community.
To begin with, I will begin with a brief summary of both stories in order to better
The first topic that is found in the movie that was taught in class is conflict. Conflict is expressed disagreement over perceived incompatible goals. Although it may seem it, conflict is not always a negative thing. Conflict is needed and can help growth of relationships. Many conflicts are started because people have different conversational styles. In class, we learned that there are guidelines that one should follow in order to help prevent conflict or help solve it. The guidelines include clarifying goals, helping others save face, using constructive criticism skills, using empathic listening skills, monitoring nonverbal be...
The short story and the film have the same plots and the same conflict ...
As you can see, there are a lot of major internal conflicts. However, there are many more not so important conflicts that weren’t listed! Ranging from racism to loneliness, the characters in this novel have gone through a lot, physically and mentally. As the novel progresses all the characters seem to go from a negative, depressed mental state to a positive and loving one. Jefferson dies with courage because Grant was able to crack Jefferson and help him, which also ended up helping himself. Miss Emma and Tante Lou are now at peace thanks to Grant’s affect on Jefferson. The only reason the novel ended with everybody in a positive state of mind is due the decisions and actions made because of the internal conflict. In conclusion, internal conflicts are very important to the story causing conflicts and plot twists to interest the reader and pull the novel together.
To begin with, despite the foundation of the two narratives being the same, there are still withstanding variations in the complete story. Predominantly,
The old mans bedroom is the only room that is mentioned in the story. The setting and tone is made scarier because the looks of the room are not described. This allows our imagination to run wild. The room is where the narrator watches the old man sleep and ends up taking his life.
The narratives that we find in this story are always set in the most everyday reality, in a daily routine that apparently has nothing special. Until everything changes. Although we do not find in these stories supernatural elements or the characteristics of horror stories. Perhaps because it is responsible for teaching us the terrible
Ghost stories have been popular throughout the ages. During the nineteenth century, there was a sudden boom and ghost stories were made popular. Storytelling was the main source of entertainment as there weren't any films, TV's or computer games. People would gather around in groups telling or reading each other stories. The stories were made more real by the superstitions people kept and as the rooms were lit by dim candle light, it built a sense of atmosphere. Most ghost stories were written in the nineteenth century period, so people could imagine such things happening to them, in the places they lived. As storytelling was the main form of entertainment, people had nothing to compare it to, so it built tension, suspense and fear. In the nineteenth century there weren't many scientific advances. Everything was blamed on higher or supernatural forces, therefore, people believed the explanations given in ghost stories. I will be comparing and contrasting four ghost stories which were all written in the nineteenth century. They are ?The Old Nurse?s Story? by Elizabeth Gaskell, 1855 and ?The Ostler? by Wilkie Collins, 1855.
I believe the conflict in the story is an internal one. I think it is the conflict between the old woman's will power and Mother Nature. She encounters many obstacles that would influence most people to give up but she has motivation to get her task done. These encounters include a bush catching onto her dress, a scarecrow frightening her and discouragement from a white man. She also had to climb hills, cross streams and crawl under barbed wire fences which is certainly not considered an easy task for an elderly woman.. If I was forced to deal with these obstacles I know that I would most likely have turned around but her will power was too strong to let Mother Nature win.
Horror films are designed to frighten the audience and engage them in their worst fears, while captivating and entertaining at the same time. Horror films often center on the darker side of life, on what is forbidden and strange. These films play with society’s fears, its nightmare’s and vulnerability, the terror of the unknown, the fear of death, the loss of identity, and the fear of sexuality. Horror films are generally set in spooky old mansions, fog-ridden areas, or dark locales with unknown human, supernatural or grotesque creatures lurking about. These creatures can range from vampires, madmen, devils, unfriendly ghosts, monsters, mad scientists, demons, zombies, evil spirits, satanic villains, the possessed, werewolves and freaks to the unseen and even the mere presence of evil.
In the beginning of both of the pieces of literature, the main character(s) have not had the experience that will shape their values yet. Rather, as time moves forward in the stories, the
Conflict first arises when Blanche arrives at the Kowalski household and Stanley's authority over his home is questioned. Stanley has always had authority and control of his home and also his wife Stella. When Blanche arrives he feels that he is being invaded and doesn't agree with it. His "rat race" style of life doesn't match with Blanches but has somehow converted Stella. One of the main themes about conflict is that Stanley and Blanche are in a battle to win Stella and neither of them will give her up.
First, you will learn about the Conflicts in each of the movies. Let's start will Alice through the looking glass. One of the conflicts in Alice through the looking glass
