Throughout the many years, technology has become the focus point for many individuals. Advancements in technology allow for a clean and efficient way of life. From cell phones, to computers, to vehicles, engineers and manufacturers continue to amaze the population with the convenience and luxury for the consumer. One of the most advanced pieces of technology to date is the automobile, that is packed with all the extra amenities including heated seats, heated steering wheels, electronic windows, push button on/off, remote start, cruise control, and many more. It would be crazy to think that cars can get better, but they have, and will continue to advance. The text book definition of autonomous is “acting independently or having the freedom to do so.” (Oxford English Dictionary, 2017) The self-driving car does just this, although the technology did not start with fully autonomous capabilities at the beginning. A level system was adapted to determine exactly what level of autonomous cars there are. Steven Shladover (2016) explains in his article titled “The Truth About Self-Driving Cars” the difference between a level one and level three vehicle: “Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping systems, belong to level one.” Therefore, one may conclude that several vehicles currently have some sort of autonomous technology incorporated already that is affordable to almost everyone. Skipping to a level three system, Shladover states these vehicles “…allow drivers to turn on autopilot in specific scenarios, such as freeway traffic jams.” Although many believe autonomous cars are an unsafe choice, and one that only the wealthy can afford, it is important to realize that the autonomous car is the transportation solution of the future because of its advanced technology, safety features, energy efficiency and impact, this car choice cannot be …show more content…

Sitting behind the wheel of a car that drives itself, safely checking emails on the commute to work or spending precious family time while on the way to another state for the dreadful yearly holiday dinner. The self-driving car is the most luxurious and convenient way of mobility to date. In 2017, the fully autonomous vehicle is not quite here. For now, the closest autonomous car that is available at the fingertips of the wealthy is the Tesla automobile vehicle.
