The title of my playlist is, Finding Me. I decided to choose this as my title because all the songs I selected in the playlist reflects a common theme of being yourself, speaking out for yourself, and standing up for yourself. All of this connects back to one central idea of finding who you are. As my days in high school are approaching an end, I will soon become an adult. Right now, my fellow classmates, as well as myself, is trying to find who we are , what we will become in the future, and where we stand in the world. I decided to put my playlist in the order of “Ordinary Human” by Onerepublic to “I” by Taeyeon Kim, because this order shows a transition of being lost and not knowing who you are to finding yourself and being who you truly …show more content…
The first song, “Human” by Christina Perri, was first introduced to me by a friend of mine. The first time I heard it, this song really stuck to me. I felt like this song was completely relatable. It shows the vulnerability of humans and how deeply society and the people around us affect who we are. There are several lines in this song that stood out for me such as, “Your words in my head, knives in my heart. You build me up and then I fall apart. 'Cause I 'm only human”, “I can turn it on. Be a good machine. I can hold the weight of worlds. If that 's what you need. Be your everything.” These lines were really meaningful to me because I can definitely relate to it. As a teenager soon to be an adult, I am constantly wondering who I really am. Often times I tend to find myself just doing things people tell me to do, like a machine, in hopes of finding myself. I used to think that if I did what people told me to do, then slowly I might find myself. Instead it was the opposite, as I continued to do so, I start losing who I really am. As I continued to feed into what other people tell me, I started becoming someone that was not me, but something that society views me …show more content…
This song is about falling and then getting back up. It stresses how if you get hurt once, it is okay, just get back up even stronger. Although this song references a break up, it still is relatable in my life. In this song, one of the lyrics says, “What doesn 't kill you makes you stronger. Stand a little taller. Doesn 't mean I 'm lonely when I 'm alone. What doesn 't kill you makes a fighter. Footsteps even lighter.” These lyrics are saying that as long what hurts you does not causes you to lose yourself (“kill you”), then you will become stronger. As a teenager living in a society full of judgment and criticism, this song really reminded me of what I go through. There are countless times where I have failed or where people would tell me that what I am doing is not good enough, however this song motivates me to get back up. Although other people are judging or criticising me, if what I am doing is what I want to do and what I think it good, then everything is fine. Even if I am put down countless time, if what I am doing is for myself and if I am staying true to myself, I will only become
There are a lot of songs to choose form when there is songs that break down norms and one that reinforce some. There are songs that mean nothing. Great songs always have a hidden mean behind them even if when listen to them we do not know what they are.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
In today’s society, people are taught to conform to the masses in order to fit in; however, it is imperative that one’s individuality is maintained, as it preserves their identity and encourages uniqueness. For example, in the song, “Outside of a Small Circle of Friends”, Phil Ochs discusses the social norm where people are too afraid to stand out, often times, leading them to pay little to no attention to the wellbeing of others. Instead of adhering to their own judgment and moral values, the person in the song continues to abide by the notions of the rest of the group. In addition, in “The Dying Girl that No One Helped”, Loudon Wainright describes the brutal murder of a young 28 year old women, while over 38 of
We have the chance to give the future generation a gift. We can give them the answers before they encounter the questions. We can give the help theyíll need before they need it. No oneís perfect when dealing with life. Weíre only here for a short time, why not make it the best time you can? Life throws things at people and one has to be able to cope and learn to solve them as best as they can. As Rolling Stone eloquently put it, ìthe lyrics address the need to cope (Wiederhorn).î In life, people are going to encounter problems no matter how hard they try to get around them. This song recognizes that fact and addresses it. The truth seems hard to come by these days. In my life, it is something I strive to give and receive. Thereís no telling how many times one person has been lied to. Letís just not mention that whole Lewinsky thing. ìBittersweet Symphonyî donates the truth to the future. No sugarcoating or hiding of facts takes place. The lyrics say, ìtry to make ends meet youíre a slave to money then you die . . .î As life is, the song is inclusive of the good and the bad. Without the bad, how would we know of the good and vice versa? This common thread of truth connects us and the future.
Don’t pick a song just because you like it, it must have meaning. Your list must be typed and include the following information: Song title, artist, and a short three to five sentence explanation as to why the song represents you.
One of my all-time favorite songs that tells a story is, "Love Like Crazy," by Lee Brice. This song tells about how Lee Brice went through life and how he made it through with the love of his life. "Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse ‘I love you,’ go to work, do your best, don`t out smart your common sense, never let your praying knees get lazy, and love like crazy," is a meaningful line from the lyrics of the song. This line of the lyrics tells how a person can get through life through the good and bad times. More people in this world should take this song as advice for life. I have listened to this song over a thousand times, and I get more out of it each time I listen to it. I relate to this song`s story because I am living this story right now in my life. I was seventeen when I found the love of my life. Everyone around me told me I was crazy, and I had no clue what love was. I have proven them wrong so far because I have been with the love of my life for four years now. Also, I am a child grew up with nothing and I have learned that I have to work for what I what in life. I have worked since I was fifteen, and I have loved every minute of it. I also am one who will follow my dreams even if everyone around me is telling me that I cannot do it, or I am not able to do it. This song`s story has been an inspiration to me in many
This song talks a lot about the baggage of the past that people hold onto instead of letting it go. All that baggage is only going to end up hurting you more and more instead of helping you in any way possible. An example is the opening
For many of us, one of the most accurate and effective ways to express the feelings that really matter to us is through music. We don’t only grow to attached to songs that are catchy, but also those with lyrics that we can relate to. It is not uncommon to feel like sometimes, artists can convey the way we feel better than we could ourselves. The storybook-like lines you read at the start of this page are a collection of lyrics
The man feels abandoned in a corner and he drinks for the sadness he feels. While drinking, he tells himself I do not understand why you left me, if I know she loved me, so if you ever regret your decision he will be waiting for you. Basically, the man feels broken emotionally because the women he loved, left him for no reason. This song to me is not a dancing song, however the song is more about remembering your ex-wife, ex-girlfriend or ex husband and ex-boyfriend. For me personally, this song reminds me of drinking, the title literally means bitter shots of liquor. The way the song shares the hurt the man feels by the women that left him. I could almost picture a man sitting at a bar drinking to his ex saying, “I’m drinking because of you, you caused this”. I could picture that scene in my head because I have seen my friends in Mexico and my cousins in Mexico do
My music had wrapped itself around and around inside of me. It took away my inhibitions and filled me with a new confidence. I had the power to do anything, if only for that one set. I wanted to be on top of the world!
“Car Radio” performed by Twenty One Pilots, is the song I have chosen to break down and explain why it relates to me in my life. It was around one to two years ago late at night when I discovered the song. I was in my room using the app called “Spotify” that plays random music based off an artist or song of your choosing. I was hanging in my room playing video games and surfing the internet when the song came on. Every word I heard I could easily relate them to my life. The song was released on “Youtube” April 19, 2013, but it was released as a single on March 18, 2014. “Car Radio” was written and recorded as Twenty One Pilots’ second and third studio album.
This song is an excellent example of the empowerment women and men may need occasionally. When someone is faced with a painful situation, people basically show two kinds of reaction: giving up or struggling. Those who decide to give up will usually keep complaining and blaming others for the situation they face. In contrast, those who decide to struggle, even though initially show almost the same reactions as the first group of people, they will finally choose to look at the good side of the situation they face. The process of being down, looking for the positives, and avoiding negative thoughts or feelings may be difficult but could ultimately result in the greatest gift of all, happiness.
In conclusion, I found that both of these songs had a strong impact on my emotions. Not only did they impact me but they also told of story of hope, faith and belief
Driving home after a long, difficult day, I turned on some music, searching for relief. The CD in the player consisted of all my favorite songs: “Pee Wee Long Way( Chasing)’,” “Lil Boosie (Long Journey),”Lil snupe “(Nobody),” and many others. My number one favorite song, “(Chasing),” was the first to play. Singing along to the lyrics, my mood was immediately better. This song reminded me of what was important in my life, my dreams and money. I then realized what these songs had in common; they all reflected my feelings on life: don’t give up on your dreams and don’t worry about every little thing life throws at you, keep chasing your dream until you reach the top.
He strives for this feeling of liberation while remaining self-aware that life is composed of both good and bad moments in which you must learn to embrace both. Through my own personal experiences, I’ve been able to recognize this as well. We cannot control what happens to us, but we can learn to pace ourselves and take life day by day. I’m constantly reminding myself to not worry about the future and what it beholds yet rather learn to enjoy myself and live in the moment. One of the main reasons I connect with this song is because the chorus reflects on taking your time on the ‘’ride’’ that is your own life. I believe it’s important to not worry over something that hasn’t happened yet or may never happen. There’s no reason to rush our lives nor compare ourselves to others and how well they’re doing. I’ve learned it’s harmful to dwell on the future and forget to enjoy the moment. We should focus on ourselves and how you can achieve all you desire on your own
