The Titanic has been imortilized by the Hollywood movie by the same name. In that popular film the two lovers, Rose and Jack face the devastating sinking of the ship which results in the death of Jack, left moviegoers heartbroken. The story of the Titanic is indeed tragic but much more nonfictional.The captain of this ship was Edward. J Smith, while the owner was John Pierpont Morgan. The ship’s tragic turn happened on its first sailing, on April 11 as it was traveling from Southampton, England to Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland to the destination of New York. The number of first class passengers who survived was two hundred and three passengers. Out of this number a overall of sixty- three percent of the passengers survived and thirty- seven percent of the passengers died.Out of the number of first class passengers that survived ninety- three percent was females and children, while thirty-one percent was males.But within the overall percentage of thirty- seven first passengers died, seven percent was females and children while sixty- nine percent was males.First class has the lowest number of passengers die out of the other class with a twenty- one percent difference in the survival and death rates between the first and second class. Reasons for this can be because the first class males were allowed to enter lifeboats when only women and children were the only group that were supposed to occupy the boats first. According to Voyagers of the Titanic, “ Sallie Beckwith asked if all six of them, men and women, could board, and was told, ‘ of course, madam, everyone of you”.Also more of the first class was able to occupy the lifeboats by bribing the crew who with assisting people on the boat, “ It was suspected that they had bribed the crew to leave hurriedly, or not to rescue people freezing to death in the ocean”.
