We create our families through how we communicate. We use interpersonal communication skills to improve family relationships and to work carefully to bring the family together and be happy. Instead of communicating in ways designed to maintain these relationships, people assume that “your family is always there for you” (McCornack, pg 334).We treat others who are not related to us more favorably than family members. Three methods for managing family relationships are positivity, assurances and self disclosure. In order to have positivity in the family, do favors for them and show them you care by thanking them, unexpectedly. Being positive is by communicating in a cheerful and jolly way. Always try to avoid conflicts that have no resolution like wanting attention or having things your way. Having confidence in how much your family means to you is to offer assurances. Discuss problems with them let them know you care and love them, encourage and remind them that they are doing a good job. Avoid comparing your family as superior and devaluing your family. Self-Disclosure means that you are sharing your private thoughts and feelings with family members and allowing them to do the same without fear. If you want your family members to disclose information with you welcome them with open arms, ask questions invite them …show more content…
While taking care of my nieces and nephews they are to listen to me so I am their boss. Other roles I play are to comfort my family at times when they need it. I am the loudest of my family, and I am energetic I also seem to make them laugh. I am a teacher to my nieces and nephews and the same for the others who are older than me. While having dinners with my family we do activities to interact and have a fun time. I try to help when problems arise but they just take it in consideration. In my family we all share our responsibilities either take turns or we have
Almost everyone is born into a family. In “Of Mice and Men”, the characters George Milton and Lennie Small have a relationship that could be described as a family relationship. In “The Gilded Six-Bits”, Joe Banks and Missie May are a husband and wife. These people interact with others but there is a different type of interaction between the people who they consider to be family. When people interact with family members, they are usually more free with their actions and words than they are with strangers or mere acquaintances. Sometimes these carefree words and actions lead to disruptions within their relationships. Regardless of the trials and tribulations, everyone desires to have someone that they can care for and call their family.
In understanding others, one must first understand our own family background and how it affects our understanding of the world. Conversely, family systems draw on the view of the family as an emotional unit. Under system thinking, one evaluates the parts of the systems in relation to the whole meaning behavior becomes informed by and inseparable from the functioning of one’s family of origin. These ideas show that individuals have a hard time separating from the family and the network of relationships. With a deeper comprehension of the family of origin helps with the challenges and awareness of normalized human behaviors. When interviewing and analyzing the family of origin, allow one to look at their own family of origin

On the other hand, there is a lot of families who take family bonding seriously. For those who do will notice that spending time with their family and making the right choices will make a difference. Family members’ ability to effectively express their emotions, insights, and ideas to each other reflects how well members relate to each other, and how well the family functions as a whole. According to Kirst-Ashman & Hull (2012) assessing communication patterns within a family is crucial to the planned change process that must occur in order to assist families reconcile their problems in the best possible way (p.331). There are various facets of communication in addition to verbal and nonverbal communication. There are at least five different paths of communication, referred to as avenues of communication, which include: consonance, condemnation, submission, intellectualization, and indifference (p. 331-332). An assessment of the various facets of communication used by a family is useful in indicating where change is
The family communication pattern theory has two important types of communications. Conversation orientation, the first is to describe their characteristics. Family members are encouraged to participate in conversations about any topic. Families that are high on conversation, orientation believe that open and constant communication is necessary for a good and satisfying family life. They interact often, freely and deliberately without controlling the time spent together and the topics they discuss. Having a low conversation, orientation are families that view interpersonal communication not as important and unnecessary, they don’t interact with each other and limit topic
When she is overly occupied, I aid my mother by washing clothes and sorting laundry. Preventing my little brother from distracting her is also important. Also, I watch over both my siblings when my parents leave. I also assist my siblings. I help my sister with math problems and Latin sentences. Placing high on my priorities list is encouraging her in school and praising her when she does well. My little brother is only six, meaning I often help him with tasks too advanced for him. I activate the Playstation. I reach unattainable objects. I provide toys for his amusement. I teach him about all sorts of things like how to setup video games on his own or how to build Legos. However, I am not helpful to just my immediate family, whenever I visit grandparents I try to be of use. Whether it's some kind of heavy lifting, a technological problem, or just spending time with them, I am always willing to assist, especially as they grow
Being in a great and consciously family is the most ideal approach to life and to delight in. Most importantly, in my family we regard one another and transfer on one another. On alternate hands, there are a few families where they don't regard one another. Consistently there is issue between the parts of the family; I feel that in those families the connection between the father and t...
When it comes to family roles, some people have only a few and some may have a slew. I, for instance, only have two roles. These roles came to me when I was about fifteen years old, when I was just starting high school. I would consider me as the youth leader and motivator in my family. These roles allow me to interact with my family to a great extent and more importantly pay attention to my elder relatives when they have something to say. By generating a youth leader and motivator role, it makes me eager to assimilate the family history the elders in my family give me.
The best way to have a strong family relationship is by listening and trying to understand each other no matter what because it prevents us from so many problems and pain in our lives and in the lives of the people we love. This is shown in the four texts that I have studied: Secrets And Lies,Good Will Hunting,The Castle,The Particular Sadness Of Lemon Cake. The writers chose this point to show that by being honest with the people around us it will help us to solve the problem instead of making it complicated and this way we can prevent ourselves and the people around us from suffering and the pain that we can face.
I like to think of family as the people God gives you to take care of in life. Psalms 11:29 states, “Whoever brings ruin on their family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be the servant to the wise.” It is important to honor family. However, one does have a duty to help all fellow man if he is in the position to do so. Although, all members of the family are usually busy, family members should gather together in a meeting to discuss ways that they can spend quality time with each other. One of the best ways to bond within a family is to vacation together. This gets the family out of their normal habitat, usually in a setting where they do not know many other people. Therefore, the family members have to communicate with one another. It is also important to have time where daily such as over dinner where everyone is free of from distractions. During this time all cell phones and other electronics should be put away, in order to facilitate open
Families provide people with an atmosphere in which to live, grow, and develop. A family culture is established by the parents and instilled in the children during their upbringing. A healthy family is a family which follows a set of strong morals, stays loyal to one another, cooperates, and works together to avoid conflict. An environment where there is openness amongst family members is ideal because minds that are open are more susceptible to avoiding conflict than minds that are closed. If conflict gets the best of a family, it has the potential to increase hostility and create remoteness between family members, however, if a family resolves conflict, it can strengthen and enforce the family relationships.
There are so many different types of family relationships. Whatever form a family takes; it is an important part of everyone’s life. My family has played an important role in my life. Good family relationships serve as a foundation to interactions with others. Supportive families will help children to thrive. The quality of the family relationship is more important than the size of the family. Making the relationships priority, communication, and providing support for one another is key to developing relationships. Family relationships are what make up our world today; they shape the ways that we see things and the ways that we do things.
My family is the best thing I have ever had in my life, my father, mother, sister and brother. They know me a lot more than anyone else in the world because I have been with them all my life. We eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together. We live in the same house full of love and joy. Although they may be annoying at times but they all care about me. For example I remember when I graduate from high school , the whole family and I went to go visit Cairo, Egypt for vacation where we went as tourists and had the best journey ever because we had seen the pyramids in Cairo with our own naked eyes. In 2013, we also went to the holy city of Mecca for pilgrimage. It was amazing how billions of people came from every corner of the world in order to perform hajj. While most of the people were alone or in two’s, my family and I stayed together as one during the pilgrimage .My family is the first priority and that’s why this relationship is special and different from all the
When I am asked what is my role in my family, I am lost in thought. Firstly, because of a paradoxical relationship between my family which means that my parents only want to do their own things but they still live together, I hold the opinion that I am the protector of my family. Secondly, I have two younger male cousins which are younger twelve-year-old than me. I watch and accompany them when they grow up and I want to be a good example in my family.
