W O N D R O U S W I F I The things that benefit the way we live are often the things we take for granted. Even the most beloved of things can be utterly forgotten or even lost in the monsoon of new ideas. Our abundance of aimless thoughts often prevail the musings about the things we take for granted. It is only when we lose them when they actually cross our thoughts. One of the most important and life changing inventions, in my mind, is wifi, which we immensely take for granted. Invented in its early stages (called frequency hopping) by Hedy Lamarr, wifi was barely used at all. She proposed to use it for the military, but even they denied its ability. Now, however, wifi is used everywhere, everyday. In fact, it is used so much, people begin to treat it as a necessity. I can say that I do as well, since I and many other people use wifi everyday of their lives. Although it isn't as important as food, water, clothes, or shelter, wifi is treated and praised like it is. Our society relies on it way too much; it's like we can't live without it. It makes our everyday lives a lot easier. Without it, we wouldn't be able to connect to the internet. These inventions have ranged from the beginning of time with the wheel through Thomas Edison’s invention of the light bulb, which had been used for years to keep houses lit. Possibly one of the greatest inventions in history that is still used today is the internet, which has made significant changes to how the day to day business is conducted.
Users are then directly joined to other computer users at their own will for a small connection fee per month. The connection conveniently includes unlimited access to over a million web sites twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. There are many reasons why the Internet is important, these reasons include: The net adapts to damage and error, data travels at 2/3 the speed of light on copper and fiber, the internet provides the same functionality to everyone, the net is the fastest growing technology ever, the net promotes freedom of speech, the net is digital, and can correct errors. Connecting to the Internet cost the taxpayer little or nothing, since each node was independent, and had to handle its own financing and its own technical requirements. . It advances education substantially, saves many lives, allows communication throughout the world instantly, organizes so much information that is easily accessible, and helps with innovation and creativity in humans. Sure there are negatives to it, but what really matters is how much the positives and negatives weigh out. It has advanced the human race so far above any other race on Earth that we have trouble keeping up with it. The beauty behind it is that it can never stop advancing. The Internet also, gives teachers the ability to teach a class online so that their students will be able to stay on task when they are not able to come to class.
