Sports Education is a Physical Education teaching model that aims to put students in a real life game situation. This includes putting students onto teams, giving them the skills they need to participate effectively and to perform to their best personal ability. Overall, Sports Education aims to take students out of physical education class, and put them onto a sports field as part of a team, all striving for one ultimate goal, to win.
“A curriculum and instruction model designed to provide authentic, educationally rich sport experiences for girls and boys in the context of school physical education (Siedentop 2002, pg.409).” This quote, taken directly out of the book Quality PE Through Positive Sports Experiences by Daryl Siedentop directly identifies the sole idea of Sports Education. Sports Education is used in schools when children are young, in hope that they will gain a passion towards a certain sport so they will join a team and become more active. Children that do not have opportunities due to family issues or any type of restrictions may fall in love with a sport and follow that sport for years to come, putting them into a healthy lifestyle.
Sports Education units have multiple objectives, which all benefit the students in one-way or another. One of the large benefits is that students gain skills and fitness that is related to a specific sport or activity. This teaches them that staying physically active is beneficial to their health and that not all physical activities have to be boring and tedious, sports are fun and get people running around, and in shape. Sports Education is a way to get uninvolved kids, involved with different sports through a real life season setting. Student’s physical abilities as well as their knowledge for the game will increase and in result, they will hopefully fall in love with a sport. As a teacher, our main goal is to get students involved physically, and teach them life long healthy habits to keep their bodies active and healthy. Overall, Sports Education is a great way to get children involved and let them learn how to play, strategize, and fall in love with all sports at hand.

Sports are a crucial part of an individual 's character. Counter arguments made against having sports at schools are getting more and more public. The arguments make people, think again about having students play sports. Sports are useful because they give players skills they can use on and off the field: strength, leadership, and confidence.
While this is not completely true, sports develop people in many ways still, some people say that “sports make me what I am today.” While it is impossible to prove exactly the way each individual takes in sports, it is seen that overall it has some positive effect. Sports are a tool of development and instead of it being a choice between sports and academics, the real answer is both and that they work together to constantly develop quality generations of people. Though problems exist, the true qualities of sports maintain the role they have in developing young ones.

Participating in a sport at an early age can be essential to the overall growth process during a child’s upbringing. Whether the participation is through some sort of organized league or just getting together amongst friends and playing, the lessons learned from this can help teach these kids and provide a positive message to them as they develop. There is a certain point, however, when organized sports can hinder progress, which is when adults get too involved and forget about the underlying reason to why they are helping. While adult involvement is necessary, adult involvement can sometimes send the wrong message to children when they try to make participation become more than just about fun and learning. According to Coakley (2009), “organized sports are worth the effort put forth by adults, as long as they do what is in the best interest of their children and put that thought ahead of their own agenda” (Coakley, p. 151). This is a valid argument because once adults put themselves in front of the children and their values, it needs to be re-evaluated as to why they first got involved in the beginning. Partaking in organized sport and activity from a young age can be beneficial to the overall development of children, as long as decisions actions are made in the best interest of the children and not stemming from ulterior motives of adults.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
With society’s ever increasing price tag of education, public schools have gone to great lengths to cut costs from the unessential activities during and after school hours. First it was music programs and art classes; however, with the desperate need for teachers, athletic programs have felt the grunt of this expedition. Now, more than ever, youths in our communities are battling serious problems. Not only are sports and organized athletic programs vital to physical development, but also mental growth and offer children structure and goals. Unfortunately, many schools have to cut back or even eliminate sports/athletic programs due to lack of funding.
Educational athletics means that sports are an extension of the learning process for students beyond the walls of the classroom. Sports, “enhance the learning process” (“National Interscholastic…LTC 501”, 2011, p. 7) while teaching kids life lessons and sportsmanship. Sports are an opportunity for students to grow in maturity.
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
Physical education must be mandatory for students all over the world. It provides many conveniences for children later in life. Sports in school encourage kids to play more outside of school and from there, their health increases. Unquestionably, physical education improves kids’
