The film Field of Dreams seems to be about baseball but it uses baseball as a metaphor to discuss many issues relevant to the New Testament. The film addresses the concepts redemption and salvation, both central to who Jesus is and to what he does. Redemption focuses on the full and free self-offering of God to all of creation so that God can be all in all. Salvation refers to our participation in God’s work of redemption, that is, it is our accepting God’s total gift of Himself and our totally giving ourselves back to God. What results is union with God, with others, and also with ourselves. The film Field of Dreams is about an Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella that hears a voice in his corn field that tells him, "If you build it, he will come." …show more content…
He interprets this message as an instruction to build a baseball field on his farm, upon which appear the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson and the other seven Chicago White Sox players banned from the game. When the voices continue, Ray decides to listen to the voice. In the film the most common religious themes were faith and redemption. The film Field of Dreams was a great movie that had meaning to it than just about baseball. In baseball, Ray Kinsella finds redemption for himself by connecting his own baseball past.

Union with God results in an act of divine grace. Having a Union with God is a covenant. In the Bible, an agreement and Union between God and his people, in which God makes promises to his people and, usually, requires certain conduct from them. In the Old Testament, God made unions with Noah, Abraham, and Moses. To have Union with others I believe it takes trust. We are born to form unions with other people in the world. Having a Union with others is being joined with others. Another reason that results in a Union with others is faith. Faith into accomplishing many things together. Union with other also results in the grouping or joint of several people. God had many unions with people. There were unions represented in the film Field of Dreams. For example, there was a union between the baseball team and Ray. Ray had a Union with himself showed in the film Field of Dreams. For example, Ray joined himself to the voice that was in the field talking to him. Ray made himself build the baseball field through the Union he had with himself. Another thing that results in joint yourself is that you join yourself with also. Having a Union with ourselves is like talking in are head. For example, Ray and the voices in his
head. The film Field of Dreams was great movie. It didn't just talk about baseball but it had religious side of it as well. Redemption is the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Salvation is the deliverance from sin and its consequences, believed by Christians to be brought about by faith in Christ. What results is union with God, with others people, and also with ourselves.
Besides an initial voiceover narration introducing Ray Kinsella (Kevin Cosner), his beloved wife Annie (Amy Madigan), and their young daughter Karin, this is the first scene in Field of Dreams, released in 1989 and directed by Phil Alden. The voice-over establishes the expectation of the film as being a sensible story about a loving couple trying to run a family farm in Iowa, and the subsequent scene (pictured above) quickly deconstructs that expectation. While working in his field one night, Ray hears a voice whispering “If you build it, he will come.” From then on, there are no more misconceptions about Field of Dreams being anything but an unapologetic fantasy in which an Iowa farmer mows down his fields to build a baseball diamond where
Unions are organizations that negotiate with corporations, businesses and other organizations on behalf of union members. There are trade unions, which represent workers who do a particular type of job, and industrial unions, which represent workers in a particular industry. The American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a trade union, while the United Auto Workers (UAW) is an industrial union.
Throughout Steinbeck’s novel, he uses the dream farm as a large symbol. The dream farm represents the American dream. The American dream is to own their own land and be in charge of themselves. ¨With us it ain like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. We don’t have to sit in
Unions are voluntary associations joined by workers. The Combination Act of 1800, which hindered the growth of unions, states that every workman's goal, who are entering into any combination should not be obtaining an advance of wages, or to lessen or alter the hours, or influencing any other to quit his work. Any workman who did so shall be committed to jail (Doc 1). Although the Combination Act of 1800 prevented the growth of unions, Ralph Chaplin believes that a worker should join the union. He states that there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun, but the unions, which makes it strong (Doc 2). Since there's so many workers working in bad conditions, the labor laws came to action.
Located in central Monterey Rey, California, the real city of Cannery Row is home to thousands of current residents, but is really home to a small, concentrated sense of nostalgia for the characters of John Steinebeck’s American Classic. Cannery Row, written in 1945 by Steinbeck, faintly touches on the idea of the American dream, on what it has to offer to a crookedly, quaint town in the middle of central California. The characters in Cannery Row are initially perceived as inappropriate, childish, slavish, ignorant, and a general mistake of humanity, with disgusting morals and a true burden to the world. As the story starts to unfold upon it self, and not only does this compelling plot line seem to start to come into place, the audience comes to revelation and comes to an understanding as to what the American dream really is. Mixed with his stylistic diction writing, Steinbeck convolutes the idea the American dream with a grim sense of realism on how it's unattainable, from society's basic perception. The characters in Cannery Row, represent perseverance through strife in spite of a ...
...ee baseball seasons stood up at the street preacher’s invitation and abruptly announced to his teammates on the curb, “Boys I bid the old life good-bye.” Billy considered going down during the invitation but did not. After several days of agonizing over this Billy went back to the mission and decided, “With Christ you are saved, without him you are lost” (Sunday “Satan” 4). He “committed” his life that night to a cause that he saw was more important than any baseball game ever played.
'Salvation' is the story of a young boy who has an experience of revelation. While attending a church revival, he comes to the sudden realization that Jesus will not physically come save him.
Covenant according in bible's point of view is a promise made by God to man. According to the book of Genesis, Chapter 6 Verse 13, as a result of human's disobedient and evil ways on earth, God had planned to put an end to humanity with flood. The covenants between God and Noah was established in Genesis Chapter 9 Verse 11. God promised Noah and his descendants, never again would he destroy the earth by flood of water because of the pleasant sacrifice offered to God by Noah. God also confirmed his covenant by putting up signs in the sky in the form of a rainbow. The reason Noah and his family weren’t destroyed in the flood was because Noah found grace in God's sight. What this means is that God do not establish any kind of covenant with just anyone. Clearly Abel, Noah and Abraham were unshakable, upright and obedient towards God’s command.
‘Field of Dreams’ is a diversified script that constantly evolves, but mainly revolves around the game of baseball, ‘the greatest game ever invented’. The game that according to some avid spectators, completely and thoroughly transcends and binds the country to past, present, and future--generation to generation. In this movie this national pastime represents an avenue that finds the connection to the soul of a great audience; somehow insinuating that baseball acts as a means of fulfilling individual spiritual needs. These needs are that of a ‘sense of belonging’, a need to participate in sport, either vicariously as a spectator or directly as a participant. Moreover the desire to engage in distraction and play may be intrinsic to the human psyche. The theme throughout the movie was based on the legendary story of the Chicago White Sox of 1919, where the question was raised on the issue of the team’s “sportsmanship” and the ethical behavior of several teammates during the World Series. This left the image of America’s most idolized team tarnished and lead up to a ban of eight players from the sport; for an ‘unsportsmanlike’ like conduct in the series. The public view of the game up until then was that of perfection, it was clean and straight; but afterwards, the lack of fair play especially coming from such highly ranked players, ended up affecting fans’ enthusiasm for the entire sport. As the movie nears its ending, Robinson evolved on the concept of having utterly devoted fans and as if in a mystified manner drew them in to this already mystical place, just to have them see the most idolized team of ‘the golden age’ play once again.
The theme of a particular film is its subject or idea, however, films may contain several themes depending on the viewer. These may vary from religious themes, to political themes and may not be the intended target of a films writer or director. (Goodykoontz & Jacobs 2014)
An everlasting covenant is a promise from God that is characterized as eternal. Charles Spurgeon describes the significance of a covenant as, “the only ladder, which reaches from earth to heaven.” Covenants have historically connected to many passages all throughout the Old Testament; however, eternal covenant is mentioned in the New Testament as well (NIV, Hebrews 13:20). The reason eternal covenant is only mentioned once in the New Testament is because the Blood of the Lamb is the only needed element, as the work of the cross covers all sins for all people. An example of an Old Testament covenant is the Noahic Covenant , which is still significant today, is God’s promise to never flood the earth again (NIV, Genesi...
Peter D. Hutchinson, Kelly Nyks, and Jared P. Scott produced a film called Requiem for the American Dream. The narrator throughout the film, speaking behalf of the filmmakers, is Noam Chomsky, a former MIT professor of linguistics. Chomsky is considered one of the most influential intellectuals of the 21st century. During the film, Noam Chomsky delineates the wage inequalities between the poor and the wealthy, then relates all of it to the middle class. The majority of U.S citizens live in the middle class, so the policy would be determined by the middle class. So for Chomsky’s purpose of convincing others that higher tax rates are beneficial on the economy, Chomsky directs the message to the middle class, to convince them of his and the filmmaker's message, and to fulfill their purpose. The film, Requiem for the American

In the novel, Holden tries to act and look older. He reflects on his shortcomings and the setbacks in life, and leaves to collect himself, all reflecting elements of the American experience.

Have you ever watch a movie and not matter how many times you watch it you never get tire of watching it? There are many great and wonderful movies the always has a good message and give us a great lesson.
