Determination is an essential characteristic in order to succeed in many aspects of life. Determination is a characteristic found in many successful people in the real world. The book, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger, by Steven King illustrates this ideology in many ways. This book teaches us that in order to accomplish your goals, you need to have great determination. A driven Gunslinger succeeded throughout the book because of his determination and belief in is own ability. One example in the book is when the Gunslinger, Roland, is traveling through the desert despite his "water bags were almost empty again." However, he didn't allow this to concern him and successfully made it through the scorching desert. In the town Tull, Roland must travel through a town where every individual there believes he is an Anti-Christ who should burn in hell. He continues through the town knowing that he can't let other people demotivate him on his journey towards the Dark Tower. Throughout the book, his determination is a major reason to why he succeeded traveling through many rough conditions. …show more content…

Roland comes across a boy named Jake who is all alone and who wants to come with him. While realizing that he is low on resources, the Gunslinger takes Jake with him knowing that determination will motivate him. At the end of the book, the Man in Black tries to trick the Gunslinger and convince him to give up on his goals because of how "meaningless" they were compared to the big picture. Roland ignores him and continues to accomplish his goals because of the determination that drives him to do anything he wants. With determination, you can do anything as shown by Roland and its not something that can be taken away from
