Fifty one thousand fans were on their feet watching as the pitcher wounded up to throw his next pitch. They needed one out and the dream would come true. The whole stadium went silent as the ball was throw and. The year 2010 was a very memorable year for the Texas Rangers. It showed great sportsman ship and team work. Wait you didn’t want me to stop? Well can I just go on, I don’t have to tell you what happens do I? As soon as that ball leaves the pitcher’s hand it’s a homerun or an out, a win or a loss. Now that’s what I love about baseball. I want to talk to you about the Texas Rangers. They are not the most famous team by the championships they have one but they are one of the most interesting teams in baseball.
The Texas Rangers started

out being the Washington Senators located in Washington D.C. They played there from 1960 to 1971. In 1972 the team moved from Washington D.C. to Arlington, Texas and became the Texas Rangers. The club started out without a lot of great hitters, so they focused more on pitching. During the next decade, the Rangers had some of the best pitchers in baseball, including Fergie Jenkins, Gaylord Perry, Jim Bibby, Bert Blyleven, Doc Medich, Jon Matlack, and Charlie Hough. By the late 1970s, the Rangers were also a good team at the plate. They kept getting better at the plate and in the 1980s, more talented hitters joined the team. Some being Larry Parrish, Pete O’Brien, Gary Ward, Ruben Sierra, and Pete Incaviglia. As the team tried to reach the playoffs for the first time, Texas fans had a lot to cheer about. Finally after many years in the 1990s, the Rangers became true contenders. The teams two top stars were Ivan Rodriguez and Juan Gonzalez. Finally in 1996, 1998 and 1999 Texas finished with the best record in the American League West. However, each time they fell short of the big win. This showed Texas fans that there Rangers could take the next step toward a championship. That they would never ever quit. On April 1 1994, the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington was opened. This beautiful stadium was built in just 23 months. The stadium combines an old-time stadium feel with many modern features. The stadium is totally enclosed except for a narrow space in right field. It would take a perfect hit, but one day someone may launch a home run that completely leaves the park! Wouldn’t that be a sight to see! Until the Florida Marlins arrived in 1993, Arlington Stadium was often the hottest stadium in the Majors, with temperatures frequently topping 100 degrees throughout the summer months. In part because of this, the Rangers began playing most of even their weekend games between May and September at night—a tradition that continues to this day. The stadiums name has been changed 7 times. It was just recently changed in 2014 to Globe Life Park in Arlington. Even though the stadiums name has been changed so many times, it will always be Rangers ballpark to my family and to so many others. The stadium has 48,114 seats which includes 127 suits. The record attendance was 52,419 The Rangers were the best team in the AL West during the 1990s. Winning four division championships from 1994 to 1999. Ranger fans were very excited for their Rangers but they never made the ultimate goal, the World Series. In the year 2010 the Texas Rangers were on fire.
Winning 90 games out of 162 and winning the American League West. Texas fans thought for sure this would be our year, this would be the year that the Texas Rangers would win their first World Series. On October 22, 2010, the Rangers led the series 3 to 2. In the sixth game of the series the Rangers lead the New York Yankees 6 to 1. Fifty one thousand fans were on their feet watching as the pitcher wounded up to throw his next pitch. They had two outs and two strikes in the 9th. Neftali Feliz was on the mound for the Rangers. As the ball left his hand and into the catcher’s glove. The umpire called strike three, the whole stadium erupted into a loud cheer. The Rangers had done it, they would be going to the World Series for the first time franchise history. After half a century including 39 seasons in Texas the Rangers were going to their first World Series. I remember sitting in my living room with my family watching the game. My family has been Rangers fans since I have been born. All I remember is screaming, screaming and more screaming and my sister and I were jumping up and down. Even though I was only 9 years old when they won I knew what the game meant and I was so excited. The Rangers had made it to the World Series but they still had to win it. Unfortunately they ended up losing 4 games to 1 to the San Francisco Giants. The Texas Rangers were not done yet because again in 2011 the Texas Rangers won the American League …show more content…
West and made it to the World Series. Unfortunately again they ended up losing 4 games to 3 to the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011. It was a major heart break not only for the players but for the fans. It was even harder for everyone because we were so close to winning. One thing the Texas Rangers can show is that they never ever quit. They keep on going even when they were the under dogs and no one thought they were going to win the division. If you don’t watch baseball I am refering to this season when the Rangers were the under dogs and it looked like winning the American League West division was way too far out of reach, but guess who is the American League West division champions, the Texas Rangers. They showed that through everything that you should never ever quit. Never give up on a dream you may not get it the first time but there is always next year. Unfortunately the Texas Rangers lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3 games to 2 October 14, 2015. We were so close yet so far. “We had a unique kind of pressure this year.
Since the All-Star break we’ve heard a lot about how the Rangers always collapse. I was looking over my shoulder, but not at the Mariners, at history. I have all the respect in the world for the Mariners, A’s, and Angels, but the biggest obstacle we’ve had to overcome was our history.” Rangers manager Johnny Oates, on how his team overcame a major obstacle to win first division title in franchise history in 1996. It’s in the Rangers history to lose but, if we look passed the history they did so much. That goes for each of us too. Our passed may not be that great but if we keep pushing forward we can do great things. I have talked about the Texas Rangers, a team that will not be in the books for the most wins in a season or for an amazing World Series win. We are still hoping for that. They will be in the books for the team that never ever quit. They had many great players and were part of history-making games but even through there ups and downs they have always played great baseball. Their history tells a story one full of ups and downs, wins and losses. But it tells us one thing never ever
quit.
baseball team. R.A. Dickey tells the story in an informal, conversational writing style written in
On July 27 1959, A new York attorney named William shea had an idea of putting a new baseball team in new York since the dodgers and giants had left for california. So on march 1st 1961 His wish was granted. The new York metropolitan baseball club or “the new York mets” were introduced into the national league. The name of the team was chosen by owner Joan Payson. The other names that were put into thought were the rebels, skyliners, nybs and avengers just to name a few.On April 11,1962 the mets played their first game in franchise history and lost 11-4 to the St Louis cardinals. The first season was a miserable one.Manager Casey Stengel led the mets to a 62-100 record,The worst record in major league history. After a couple of more losing seasons, The mets finally made a move and signed pitcher Tom “the franchise”Seaver, one of the best pitchers who ever played the game. They also picked up power hitting outfielders Donn Clendenon and Tommie Agee. Finally the mets looked like a baseball team.Entering the 1969 season, my father said the mets wewr 160-1 to win the World Series, but the mets shocked everyone winning the national league championship. Now, this is how the mets won their first world series, The batter was cleon Jones, after striking out manager Gil Hodges notices a black mark on the ball. The black mark was shoe polish. Putting shoe polish on the ball makes it spin more and makes it much easier to strike out a batter.
As the decade opened up with the year 1950, the Yankees were celebrating an American League Pennant and a World Series victory from the previous year. It was apparent in 1950 that the team had not taken too much time off as the team posted a 98-56 regular season record, winning their second straight Pennant and a trip to the World Series where they would match up against the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1950, the Phillies were known as the Whiz kids because of their youth and amazing talent, but in the series against the Yankees they were swept in 4 games thanks to Joe DiMaggio- a legend in Major League baseball- and Phil Rizzuto- a shortstop who would enjoy one of his most productive seasons as well as the honor of earning American League MVP. Whitey Ford, a rookie pitcher for the Yanks, also enjoyed a stand out career, winning all 9 of his starts and losing only one game in relief. (Baseball History)
The New York Yankees lost to St. Louis in the 1926 World Series and came out in 1927 for revenge. (Geisler, 1) The Yankees opened the season on April 12th with an 8-3 victory over the Philadelphia Athletics and they never looked back. (Frommer, 5) The Yankees never fell out of first place after that first day and finished 19 games ahead of Philadelphia who won 91 games respectively. (New York Yankees, 3) An astonishing feat for today's strategic baseball moves, the '27 Yankees went all year without a single roster move. (Geisler, 1) With a tremendous team built by owner, Jacob Ruppert and General Manager, Ed Barrow, the scene was set for a big year. Certainly meeting the New York standards with a record of 110 wins and 44 losses the Yankees had many indiv...
Major league scouts had come to watch a shortstop whom they had heard was an excellent fielder and consistent batter. They were quickly distracted from this responsibility however by the performance of the man on the pitcher’s mound. Fernando Valenzuela was a pudgy teenage boy who had grown up on the dusty baseball fields of northwestern Mexico. From a young age, he had dreamed of playing professional baseball and he was about to get his chance. Less than two years later, he became the only player to win the Cy Young award as well as the Rookie of the Year award...
In 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays went to the World Series as the American League Champion against the National League Champion the Atlanta Braves, the Series opened in Atlanta where Toronto lost their game one of the Series 3-1, faith was not lost as the Jays went on and win the next three games 5-4, 3-2, 2-1. By this time, the fans had real high faith, and even though the Braves dominated the fifth game 7-2, if the Blue Jays win one more the title is theirs, and so it was when the Jays won the sixth game 4-3 winning the 1992 World Series. Canadian Baseball had never been so successful before. When the 1993 season comes, the Blue Jays once again end up first place in their division with a 96-67 record and won all the playoffs games to advance to the World Series for a second time in a row against the National League Champions the Philadelphia Phillies. I’m sure some people have never really taken a closer look in the extraordinary world of softball. I'm certain that not too many people have gotten to know who invented softball, how you play, ruled or maybe what is the ball made of. In these few pages you can take a better look into the world of softball.
Baseball/softball was, is, and always will be one of the most popular sports of all time. Homeruns, stealing second base, and spectacular plays and catches on the playing field will continue to catch the eyes of millions of people around the globe. Today I’m going to give you a brief demonstration of how the game of baseball/softball is played.
The Great War rages on. An influenza epidemic claims the lives of several Americans. But, the Boston Red Sox have done it again. Last night, in a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Fenway Park (thanks to Carl Mays' three-hitter), the Boston Red Sox won their fifth World Series championship--amid death and disease, a reason to live ... Babe Ruth and the 1918 Red Sox. If I die today, at least I lived to see the Sox win the championship. For, it could be a long, long, time before this happens again.
The Texas Rangers were absolutely abysmal last year, garnering the worst record in the AL, and in no way looking like a postseason team. Rangers manager had two options, and neither looked like a winning situation. He could blow up the team and try and rebuild it over the course of a couple years. But that wasn’t good enough for Daniels, he trusted his work years and years before, and he knew he had something with this bunch. So he stuck it out, made some minor moves, and boy has it paid off.
Claim: The early years of baseball has changed dramatically over the years that have gone by.
I felt as though I was watching a train barrelling towards me, an inevitable bullet that had come tumbling out of the opposing pitcher’s arm. But instead I stood immobilized, watching my team's only chance of winning whiz by me. Strike three. I heard my team from behind me shouting “SWING!” with my mind screaming the same. But my bat remained unmoving, the pop of the catcher's glove like the nail into the coffin that was our defeat. All I had to do to keep our hopes of winning hope alive was swing, and yet I couldn't. I stayed on the field afterwards, tossing the ball up in the air and swinging away, landing it on the thick maple barrel of the bat.
Cheerleading Have you ever just saw this one sport where you are just dying to try. Or you just want to spend the rest of your life doing? Well I have. And for me, that sport is cheerleading The inventors of the amazing sport of cheerleading are Thomas Peeble and Johnny Campbell. I thank these people every single day for inventing this amazing sport because they invented my absolute passion.
Finally, the ballgame begins, as the Red Sox take field led by the rookie pitcher Jon Lester, who is making his major league debut. Lester is now one my favorite Red Sox players because of this moment. The Red Sox ended up losing the game that day, but for me even though the Red Sox lost, I felt like I was in Heaven. I cherish this moment because it was my first Red Sox game at Fenway. I only get go to one Red Sox game a year if we can afford it. I know to cherish this moment, because to me this day is like Christmas, it only happens once a year. I love going to Red Sox games with Phil because it is time I am spend alone with him. I hope that I can go this year, to go back my baseball heaven, Fenway. To me this experience is important, because it taught me to cherish the moments, and not have regrets.
"They've finally done it" says cubs fan, Alan Deutsch along with every other Cubs fan in the world. The Cubs achieved the unthinkable. They won the world series, breaking the longest championship drought in not only baseball history, but sports history. Very few fans can admit, truthfully, that they never wavered, lost faith, or doubted the Cubs over the years. It has been a long, slow road of continuous let down for Cubs fans until now. It has been 108 years since the Cubs last won the pennant which makes winning even that much more special.
