There is a beckoning about space—an indefinable pull towards its airless environment. While I share a childlike excitement of zero gravity far off planets, I don’t lose myself in heavenly dreaming. Infact, what is more my fascination, is the technology that allows children to have their dreams, that allow them to grow up and actually touch the stars! And thus, I put forward for your enjoyment and enlightenment, a detail and profile of the most landmark instrument ever created for observation of the stars!

People commit hundreds of hours of their lives, willingly, to a continuous myopic view of the universe, generally very alone atop some secluded high mountain like a Buddhist monk. What do the efforts of these researchers matter to us? Wouldn't their time be better spent raising their children or contributing to their community? But these researchers do matter and their efforts are fruitful. What these martyrs of loneliness are providing is a biopic view for the rest of humanity. They are providing a complete and ever expanding image of our place in the solar system—an account of the space in which we live.
Space is the substance of metaphysical conjecture and childhood visions. It is, to borrow famous words, "the final frontier"! Profound landmark discoveries have shaped our interpretation of our manner of habitation and altered our ways of living to live in a cleaner, more humble, relationship with the substantive universe around us.
These researchers have studied the births and deaths of stars, the motions of planets and space bodies, the unbelievable natural phenomena of the heavens that, in their spectacular magnitude and power, seem to bring our universe back down to where is feels more real.
We can only take in the reaches of space one eye at a time, but little by little, but picture becomes clearer.

The early 1600 were a time of church authority and undisputable tradition. Such were these high emotions that in 1616, an edict was past prohibiting support of the Copernican thought of a heliocentric system. At the slightest suggestion of any thought other than the earth being the center of the universe and the church would actively rise against the authors of those notions.
In the last hundred years we have made enormous progress in studying not our galaxy but ones billions of light-years away. Only a few hundred years ago our world seemed so big that there were areas of the world that had never been charted and people believed that the Earth was flat (and yes for some reason a few people still believe that today). If we continue to make progress at thus rate the universe will actually begin to seem smaller because of how much more we might know.
In Alan Lightman’s, “Our Place in the Universe,” he describes his experiences in the Greek Isles explaining how meek it made him feel to be surrounded by the vast ocean with no land in sight except a small strip of brown in the distance. Great thinkers throughout history, have been exploring the visible variety of shapes, colors, and sizes, though the greatest of these are size, from the smallest atom to gargantuan stars. These massive differences in size change the way we view ourselves in the universe. (470) Garth Illingworth, from the University of California, has studied galaxies more than 13 billion light years away from us.

Outer space has always intrigued the human mind. Ever since humans inhabited the Earth, they have always looked to the heavens. Ptolemy, who lived over two thousand years ago, dreamed of being with the stars. He said, “I know that I am mortal by nature, and ephemeral; but when I trace at my pleasure the windings to and fro of the heavenly bodies I no longer touch the earth with my feet: I stand in the presence of Zeus himself and take my fill of ambrosia” (Tyson). At that time, reaching the “final frontier” was not even remotely possible.
When considering this topic, one might ask themselves why explore space? We explore space to compare other planets with the earth and to study the sun, to explore the universe while finding if intelligent life exists, for satellites to improve communications, weather forecasting, navigation, resource monitoring, and “to create a focal point for a new intellectual renaissance” (Ruzic).
People have been venturing out into the universe for many years now. In addition to satellites, both women and men astronauts have traveled into space to collect data about the universe. The first human being, the first animal, and the first spacecraft in orbit, were all achievements of the Soviet Union.
Human fascination with the stars is as ancient as Babylonians and has been suggested to be older than Stonehenge. From “be fruitful and multiply” to “live long and prosper,” the instinct to protect and propagate the species has manifested in religion, art, and the imaginations of countless individuals. As human understanding of space treks out of the fantastical and into the scientific, the realities of traveling through and living in space are becoming clearer. Exploring, investigating, and living in space pose an expansive series of problems. However, the solutions to the problems faced by mankind's desire to reach beyond the horizon, through the night sky, and into the stars are solutions that will help in all areas of life on Earth.
The space that surrounds is not merely the universe is not merely ideas of human minds.
“Sheltered as we are by Earth's atmosphere and magnetic field, which deflect lethal radiation from space, we are like coddled children who have never ventured into a tough neighborhood” (Folger 2). Humans have been fascinated with space since the beginning of our time. Just like children and rough neighborhoods, we have tackled obstacle over obstacle to make it home again. In the end, we have a better knowledge and strength than before. The future of space exploration can assist us in answering the everlasting question of how the universe came to be. The more we explore the infinite galaxies, the more we can scientifically discover and create new technologies as science advances. As we continue to discover, we can create new fields and occupations for aspiring young students like myself.
This telescope is the result of an international collaboration of 17 countries lead by NASA, European Space Agency and Canadian Space Agency. It will help us determine the geometry of the universe and enable us to establish whether the universe will expand forever.
Space has always been a pivotal and utmost important subject for many years. In the past, scientists have made monumental advances in this field such as sending people into orbit and landing a man on the moon. Of course, this has only barely been explored and we still have a lot more to see of the ever-vast outer space. One of the most significant topics of all of science has only been touched and there’s still more to come.
