There a several colors used for symbolism in the novel “The Great Gatsby”.
For example the colors BLUE, GREEN, WHITE and YELLOW are used throughout
the book.
The first time Nick Carraway meets his cousin Daisy Buchanan at Tom’s
and Daisy’s home, she was dressed totally in white. So as the house and
its furnishings are also tuned in light shades. This fact might be interpreted
as: beauty, cleanliness, wealth, innocence, virginity and also laziness.
Daisy’s color is white, she wears white dresses and recalls her “white
girlhood”, and this use of color helps her to characterize her as the unattainable
“enchanted princess” who becomes incarnate as Gatsby’ s dream (p.21, l.8-9).
The use of a green light at the end of a landing stage to signal a romantic
reunion, is intriguingly similar to the green light at the end of Daisy’s
Buchanan’ s dock, which becomes key image in “The Great Gatsby”. The initial
appearance of the green light occurs when Carraway sees Gatsby for the
first time, standing in front of his mansion and stretching out his arms
to ‘a single green light, minute and far away that might have been the
end of dock’ (p.22, l 31-33). The light has become, for Gatsby, the symbol
of a reunion with Daisy. Green is very significantly associated with both
the green light and the “green breast of the new world”, uniting the hope
and promise of Gatsby’ s dream with that of America itself. The color green
is traditionally associated with spring, hope and youth.
The color blue in “The Great Gatsby” represents hope for the future.
It represents a lost time, a pure color that is overly displayed, a pure
color in the valley of ashes. T.J. Eckleburg's eyes are blue, perhaps symbolizing
a higher world from which God looks down upon the scene. Tom's car being blue may even
represent the relationship between Tom and Daisy, (being unhappy), based on money and not love. Blue also represents
fantasy, and is a symbol of a different world.
As Gatsby' s lawn is blue, his house is a place where people can go
to get away from reality. His parties are out of touch with the real world,
Daisy Buchanan is the preeminent female character in the story. Her name, Daisy fits her exceptionally, she is bright and sunny like the flower. Daisy is best represented by the color yellow. She’s the story’s golden girl, the wife of wealthy broker, and the love of the mysterious Gatsby’s life. Grok describes the color yellow as “Deities with glowing halos and golden hair…But it also evokes a few negative responses in associations with dishonesty, cowardice, egoism, betrayal, and caution” (Grok). Daisy is described physically as a blonde, and back then the style along women was the flapper headband, like the glowing halo. In the story Daisy is dishonest, she cheats on her husband with Gatsby. Daisy is also a coward, she couldn’t leave Tom, her husband, who treats her like property for Gatsby, who truly loves and idolizes her. Daisy once tells Nick when telling him about her daughter, “I hope she’ll be a fool. That’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool” (1.17). Daisy is immensely obsessed with what people think of her, she likes being the girl who has this beautiful and graceful aura. This quote displays how she want’s her daughter to grow up to be just like her, the image of a weak foolish girl who lets men push her around. Betrayal is the emotion that Nick feels when she skips town instead of attending Gatsby’s funeral. Grok also writes that, “When paired with black, it suggests warning” (Grok). Gatsby is the color black, while Daisy is the color yellow. When the couple reconcile there is a multitude of trouble that eventually leads to the death of Myrtle, George, and Gatsby himself. Daisy isn’t just the bright ray of sunshine; she is also just as troublesome as Grok describes her, which is why th...
The Great Gatsby is full of symbolism. Colours, for example, are used to represent many different things; some even represent a theme of the novel. White, yellow, grey, green are just some of the colours which Fitzgerald uses in a special way, because each of these colours has a special meaning, different from the ones we regularly know or use.
To begin with, Study.com tells that the lowest level of education required is a high school diploma or equivalent. Many employers may require an employer- based welding test. Some employers look for a certificate or undergraduate degree from a technical school (Study.com). Next, it is important to note where training is available. WATC.edu states, that they offer a welding program. WATC is located in Wichita Kansas. Their welding program allows students to gain knowledge and skills in cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, and provides some exposure to oxy-acetylene cutting and welding (WATC.edu). In addition, the length and cost of the training is an important consideration. WATC.edu shares, that there are 5 different degree and certificate options. The one I would be interested in is the Welding Technical Certificate option. This one would be a total of 46 credit hours and would cost a total of $10,524. Finally, this job requires certain traits, talents and interests. The Occupational Handbook adds, that welders often must work in awkward positions using tools, so they need to be able to put up with that. A lot of times, overtime will be present. So you would have to be available for overtime if needed. Welders are required to lift heavy objects sometimes. So a welder should be fairly strong (The OCO). I think that being a welder would be hard work. I feel that I would be able to work hard enough to be a welder. I now know what traits a person should have, in order to be a welder. In summary, there are educational and personal qualifications to consider if I want to become a

F. Scott Fitzgerald used the imagery of colors in his masterpiece The Great Gatsby. The colors are used very frequently as symbols, and the hues create atmosphere in different scenes of the book. White is a clean and fresh color, but the author shows how it can be tainted as well. Next, yellow illustrates the downfall of moral standards of the people of West Egg. Lastly, green, the most dominant color in the book, symbolizes wealth and Gatsby's unattainable dream.
The green light at the end of the dock has symbolized a hope that Gatsby had. The green light was a light at the end of Daisy’s dock. In the beginning of the book, Gatsby was shown staring at the light with a longing expression. It shows that the green light is a symbol of Gatsby’s hope that Daisy is still available. The green li...
Over forty years has passed since the United States inducted the last draftee through the Selective Service System. The Selective Service System is an independent agency of the United States, which gives the President the right or power to conscript men for military service. There have been different Acts passed by congress since 1917 that require men of various ages to register for service. Although, the name of each Act and the age requirements of the registries changed, the Acts were all similar in nature. They all gave the President the right to call men to war when he deemed necessary. In January 1973, Secretary of Defense Melvin Laird announced the creation of the all-volunteer service, retracting the need for the draft (GAO.gov). Under current law, all men between the ages of 18-25 must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday, however this information is used mostly for recruitment purposes and in case of any future crisis. There has been much controversy over this matter since the Vietnam War, when people started to realize the draft was unfair due to loopholes and draft exemptions making the draft unfair for working men. At one point in time the military draft may have been necessary, but today’s all-volunteer military has eliminated the need for a draft.
The draft is an unwise solution to any military endeavor that cannot find the adequate number of troops to fulfill its mission. If people have to be forced to participate in a war, perhaps it was irresponsible to carry it out in the first place without a plan as to how the entire thing would be carried out with the existing military forces. Needing a draft to aid a military campaign also shows that the citizens do not wholly support the cause, because they are not standing up to fight for it. Forcing these people to fight would be disastrous. At home, riots and protesting would ravage the nation and bring to our domestic life a great deal of turmoil. Abroad, soldier morale and ability would be greatly reduced by forcing people who have never been soldiers, and who never wanted to be soldiers, to be soldiers. The draft is therefore an obsolete mechanism of war, and should never be reenacted for the good of our stability, morale, and military strength.
When people think of daisy flowers, the colors yellow, green and white come to mind. The yellow in the middle represents corruption, and in the novel Daisy is one of the most corrupt characters. White represents how she was pure and "an enchanted object" on the outside (TCLC 6). Daisy's name truly fits her character, in the way that she comes off sweet, but on the inside is morally sullied. The color green can also represents money. The day Gatsby goes to Nick's to reunite with Daisy, Gatsby sends a gardener over to Nick's house to cut his grass and give him a green house. When Nick sees that "Mr.
For the first part of this paper you need some background on how the draft worked throughout our history (as Americans), and how it was socially perceived amongst the citizen of this great nation. For more than fifty years now we have had a peacetime military draft. "President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which created the country's first peacetime draft and formally established the Selective Service System" (about.com). We have been very lucky that the military draft has only been used twice now, once for W...
The Military draft is the random selection of qualified citizens of the United States, that is put to use when a crisis occurs, like a war. When American citizens reached age 18, they had to sign up for eligibility to be drafted to go to war for their country. Throughout the country’s history, the requirements and limitations of drafting have changed. The draft has been going on since colonial times in America in order to fulfill the country’s military needs when there were not enough volunteer fighters for the military. The total amount of soldiers that one side has fighting for it is an important factor in any type of battle so getting the necessary amount of fighters is crucial. The draft assures everyone that this military need is satisfied at any point in time. Many people feel like the draft is not fair and not “American” and the draft has seen so much conflict since its invention. Throughout the history of the United States, the military draft has been a very important, yet highly controversial topic at the same time.
To begin with a welder uses equipment to apply heat to metal in order to create a permanent bond. In doing so, they weld metal parts, fill holes, and can even repair cracks in a brace. Because of its heavy duty strength, welds can be used to repair cars, ships, and even airplanes. Also, welds are used in the construction of buildings and bridges. Various tools are needed to perform proper welding techniques, for example, a person may need clamps, welding rods, a chipping hammer, a torch, glasses, a welding helmet, an apron or non flammable clothing to properly weld metal. In addition, a person may also need a specific type of welder for a certain occasions. For example if a person wants to weld aluminum a mig welder would be used along with argon and helium gases. Safety is always important for the welder. Welders are exposed to a variety of environments and situations that put their safety in jeopardy. They are at risk for cuts, bites, stings, and burns since they work outdoors. They are also exposed to gases, dust, fumes, and foul odors due to working in poorly ventilated areas. It is ev...
The Great Gatsby is full of symbolism, colors, for example. Throughout the book the author uses them to represent different themes of the novel. Some of these colors are white, yellow, grey, green, pink, red and blue. However, I picked white and green for my commentary because I think these colors have a special meaning different from the others. White is mainly used to describe the character’s innocence, fakeness, and corruption. While green represents Gatsby’s hopes, ambitions, and dreams. In addition, sometimes green symbolizes the jealousy of certain characters.

The potential income of a welder is on average I will get a salary of $36,980 per year and for every hour I will get $16.76. Other related jobs include sheet welding, cutting, and normal welding. Why am I am choosing to become a welder well it is because of my friends and family. Also, I like using fire to make things because it comes out cool or it comes out not so cool but you learn from your mistakes. It also looks really cool, fun and you can go out buy your own and do testing with it and even make new things out of it. That is why I want welding to be my
