On the statue of Michael Jordan there is a quote that is engraved in the bright black stand that is “The best there ever was. The best there will ever be.”
Did you know that all of his accomplishments are engraved on the back of the stand as well? It also has the two years that he retired. My landmark looks life size and detailed. Also, it was the size of Michael Jordan. Next it is not like a normal statue like the statue of liberty. Then the creators made it live sized on purpose and lastly they made it detailed so you could see the face structure.
My landmark was built in 1994. First the statue was made in 1994. Then it was open in 1994. Next, people go to see it. Lastly the color from the copper fades away because of the time of
The statue of Hatshepsut seated down is made with the material limestone. This limestone is lightly colored, which created a larger contrast with the other statues nearby. Her face was carved bringing out her eyes, eyebrows and other facial features. Her eyebrows also come slightly together towards the middle. Her lips forming a slight archaic smile. The dimensions are larger than an average female size. The statue is of great size, yet still in proportion. The body and head fit well with each other overall. However, it is greatly exaggerated in size.
The Statue of a kouros and the Portrait statue of a boy both depict similar subjects, however are greatly different in how they accomplish this task. Through detail, or lack there of, the Greeks and Romans are able to display a certain value they have in its members. These two statues were made about 500 years apart and approach the sculpting process quit differently. The Greek statue seems to use geometric exaggerated lines to form the body while the Romans use a more realistic approach and sculpt the body with a more rounded finish. Statue of a kouros, from about 590 B.C and Portrait of a boy, from about the first century, do not share any great technical aspects and are basically nothing alike.
Michael Jordans talent is so amazing. “Maybe this guy is God disguised”, former Boston Celtic Larry Bird said about Jordans talent. This really shows how people viewed his talent and liked the way he played the game of basketball. Michael Jordans talent is so amazing , he’s so incredible and beyond unreal. The things he did and accomplished in the basketball league shows his true talent. In 1984, at 21 years of age, Jordan made the United States Olympic Games basketball team under coach Bobby Knight. Averaging a remarkable seventeen points a game, Jordan led the team to a gold medal in eight straight wins! The Olympic win brought Jordan to high visibility in basketball circles and made him a household name in America. Jordan continued soaring new heights , even when he fractured his ankle early in the 1...
Mathis, Jonathan. “Why LeBron James Will Never Be Better Than Michael Jordan.” Sports Buzz On the Street. Sports Buzz On the Street, 17 Feb. 2013. Web. 2 Oct 2013.
History has a strange way of coming back around when it comes to human civilization. It has been said repeatedly that those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. However, just because there is a potential for danger in the future, this does not mean that humanity must ignore what once was. History is normally remembered through what is known as a memorial. When a memorial is put into a physical representation, it is then known as a monument. The need to memorialize events or people is complex; in some cases, monuments honor moments of great achievement, while in other cases, monuments pay homage to deep sacrifice. A monument's size, location, and materials are all considerations in planning and creating a memorial to the past. Examples of such feats are the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and even Mount Rushmore. For the latter of the
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that Michael Jordan even now in the present is still the greatest player ever to play in the NBA.
It’s one of the greatest debates right now in modern time sports. Who is the greatest basketball player ever? Is it His Airness, or is it King James? The debate on whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the greatest basketball player ever is a prevalent topic in sports news daily. Many people believe that LeBron James is the greatest basketball player to be currently playing and also the greatest player to ever have played in the NBA. My theory, however, is that rather than LeBron James, the greatest basketball player to ever have played the game is Michael Jordan. Although I agree with the claim that LeBron James is the best current player in the NBA, I believe that he is nowhere near being considered better than Michael Jordan.

Few professional basketball athletes’ names are recognizable to the avid, diehard basketball fans and the uninterested layman alike. One of the first, if not the first, athlete to pop up in anyone’s head is the legendary Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan, also known as His Airness, MJ, and Air Jordan, is widely considered the greatest basketball players of all time. Throughout his professional career, Jordan kept changing the game and redefined the entire sport of basketball. However, in 2002, an aspiring athlete by the name of LeBron Raymone James, also known as King James or simply LeBron, immediately rose to prominence and caught the attention of the entire NBA community. The young star quickly proved his tremendous skill, receiving the hype of being the next Michael Jordan. Looking closer, I found that the similarities between the two players are striking.
His Airness was inducted into the hall of fame in 2009. Jordan was also able to add to his legacy a movie with a Looney Tunes movie called “Space Jam”. He still hopes to add to his collection with the thought that the Bobcats will become a playoff contender one day.
I was immediately impressed by the landscape of the Heritage center. On the grounds there were various monument that were dedicated to people or events that were important to the Chickasaw’s history. One of the first things that you can see is a plaque marking a time capsule that contain photos, poems, genealogy records, letters to future generations, and pieces of art. This made me think about how important preserving history is to the Chickasaw’s. Another monument was a replica of the leaning pole. I was excited to see it and I was able to recall the legend behind it. The third monument was an eternal flame. This was made to be a representation of a sacred flame that was lit annually by the Chickasaw ancestors to celebrate the green corn ceremony.
The building itself is pretty modern, built in 2000 and not opening its doors until 2003. On the outside of the building, the words “We The People” stand out to visitors, for the words, as well as a couple
The Washington Monument, a memorial structure designed and constructed in the nineteenth century, signifies an important tribute to the prestigious role and achievements of our nation’s founding father. Ideas for such a monument first arose in 1783, by which time “the fame George Washington, Commanding General and first President of the United States, was assured in the pantheon of statesmen of the world” (1). It was during this year that the Continental Congress proposed an “equestrian statue” in honor of “Washington’s services and his unique role in the founding of the new Republic” (1).
This is a great symbol of art because The Statue of Liberty is magnificent in every way, and serves its purpose to a superb level. Like I mentioned previously, “location, location, location .. “ the statue’s location was perfect back in the days of Ellis Island and is perfect now as a tourist site. Shortly after the immigrants on the boats first spotted the land of their new homes, they came into the Hudson river to see this grand statue, and to most people it wasn’t just some lady who was standing in the middle of a river, it was the lady who was going to free them or help them from their inadequate lives.
According to TheGuardian, a statue of Apollo was found somewhere deep in the sea. A rare bronze statue of the Greek god Apollo was discovered this week in the Gaza strip after being lost for centuries" (pg, 1) It's significance is uncanny because who knows how old the statue really is. We could give it an approximate, perhaps centuries, but nothing precise. It was found by a Palestinian fisherman who said it was very difficult getting it up ashore. A local Palestinian fisherman, Joudat Ghrab, says he discovered the bronze statue on the seabed last year but was unaware of its significance. It took him and his family four hours to drag the statue ashore" (pg, 2). It's astonishing that they found such a masterpiece, simply mind blowing. Oddly
