Achilles tendinopathy and its contributing pathologies has been a heavily researched topic throughout multiple professions. Although a unified consensus and classification on the underlying pathology is yet to be reached, a shift from the term tendinitis to tendinosis has slowly been adopted, and is now believed to follow a continuum. Previous incorrect belief of an inflammatory pathophysiology has lead to the development of treatment options that are inappropriate and unsuccessful, leaving the tendon unable to adequately heal or strengthen increasing its risk of repetitive re-injury and the development of chronic Achilles tendinopathy. As a result an understanding of the pathophysiology, its effect on lower limb function and biomechanical risk factors contributing to the development of Achilles tendinopathy need to be considered when developing a rehabilitation program to coincide with new research and to address the underlying degeneration and failed healing of the tendon.

The Achilles tendon is one of the largest and strongest tendons in the human body. It is a tough band of fibrous tissue that connects the calcaneus (heel bone) to the muscles at the back of the calf using the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. Leg muscles are known as the strongest muscles in the body because there are able to pull against the force of gravity in order to keep the body upright and in balance. The Achilles tendon is an important tendon in terms of mobility because it keeps the elastic energy required for running, jumping and walking. When an athlete tightens their calf muscles, it pulls the Achilles tendon which in turn pushes the foot down. Within the body each Achilles tendon is conditional to an athlete’s entire body weight with each movement taken. Generally depending on the speed, pace and additional weight being carried or pushed down, each Achilles tendon may be conditional to nearly three to twelve times the athlete’s body weight during a sprint. The Achilles tendon is very different from other tendons in the body. Compared to other tendons which have a covering that minimises wear and tear to the tendon by friction, the Achilles tendon contains a softer tissue that covers it. Since there is also a short blood supply to the tendon, it is highly prone to injuries and can require a long time to heal.
When we were younger, most of us wanted to be a princess or an astronaut. Now that we’re older, we’re starting to consider more serious options. A sports medicine physician isn’t your run of the mill career choice, but I’m not known for running with the crowd. I am confident, hard working and able to stay calm under pressure. Sports medicine physicians diagnose and treat patients of all ages related to physical health. To become a sports medicine physician, you need many years of post secondary education and they make a relatively good salary. With most careers, there are advantages and disadvantages. There can be travel opportunities and that comes with long work hours and high stress levels.
A basketball Jump shot also known as a jumper is one of the most important shots in the game. Its purpose is for the player to jump, usually straight up and while in the mid-air attempt to score while arcing the ball in the basket. Jumps shots are known for winning games, especially crucial last second shots such as mine but it’s a skill that a player should be familiar and have knowledge of. Although it seems simple and easy its actually is a very detailed and mechanical aspect to the game which is why I choose to analyze the biomechanics of a basketball jump shot.

The Race and Sports pathway was sponsored by Northern Arizona University’s Black Student Union. Aashli Morgan was the main person who put this event together. She is currently a senior at Northern Arizona University. The pathway also had a panel of five different guests. The first guest was an NAU junior who is on the school's football team. The second guest was NAU junior from Chicago who is on the Basketball team. The third guest is a 32 year old man who played at Penn state and then later on played professional basketball now he is the NAU basketball coach. The fourth guest was 67 year old man that has experience with sports ever since he was a little boy. He has played in the minor league, professionally, and coached. The last guest in the panel was an 46 year old man who is the girls basketball coach at Sinagua Middle School.

Should transgender females (male to female) compete with biological females in sports? I have asked eight people to share their opinions through five questions on this topic. The sports of today have changed the way the players play the game. Starting on the professional sports level, bad sportsmanship behaviors, like the use of steroids or "throwing" a game or a match in an effort to please the sports gambler trying to get their big pay-off, has trickled down through the college level and even down to the high school level. One person recalls the days when athletes played their sport for the love of the game, because it is what they lived for. They remember when they were younger, sitting in their grandfather's lap and watching the Atlanta Braves (in the days of Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Glenn Hubbard and other great names in Braves history) running out on the diamond every game. In fact, they quoted country artist, Collin Raye, saying [I've been] "a Braves fan even through the rotten years". Watching these games, they remember looking up at their grandfather’s face and seeing the look he had in his eyes by watching these guys play their sport from the heart. Now, years later, sports have been threatened by strikes. The athletes playing now aren't playing because they love to, but now it's more about the money and how much they can make. Sports of today are tainted and don't come from the heart. The kids today need to be taught what it was like "in the good ole' days" and how playing sports teaches an individual about how to work with other people and how to pull together as a family.
