Arthur Conan Doyle was one the most successful British authors in the 1800s. His most famous pieces are the Sherlock Holmes stories. One of these stories includes: “The Adventure of the Speckled Band”. This story is a mystery that has the one and only detective named Sherlock Holmes, the medical doctor Dr. Watson, the sorrowful Helen Stoner, and the intimidating Dr. Roylott. This short story takes place in April, 1883 at Stoke Moran, England. The story begins with Helen Stoner reports the murder of her sister Julia to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. She was worried because she feared her fate would match the same as her sister. She was this cautious because her wedding was coming up and her sister died the eve of her own wedding. Prior to the arrival of Sherlock and Watson at Stoke Moran to investigate, Dr. Roylott showed up to Sherlock’s house and threatened him to seize the inquiry. Yet this bewildered man did not scare off Sherlock or Dr. Watson. The investigation was to be continued. This encounter did halt all possibilities for Sherlock to cross paths with Roylott. The detectives and Helen Stoner decided to go to the Stoke Moran Manor to investigate while Roylott was in town attending to business. They concluded that Dr. Roylott was responsible for the murder of Helen Stoner’s sister, Julia. All conflicts were solved then due to the death of Dr. Roylott, and the truth of the murder of Julia. Sherlock and Watson both felt accomplished after solving yet another mystery. Helen felt happy, she finally did not have to worry about her possible demise. And for Dr. Roylott, well, he realized that he had been a menace to the society and treated everyone as a person lesser to him. But this was all but a mystery to Sherlock and Dr.
