A father is the first man that a girl loves, and never forgets. My dad has taught me life’s most important lessons, and always protects me from the harm and negativity from the world. I chose the song “Daddy’s Lessons” by Beyonce, because her song’s theme is about the lessons he taught her while she was growing up. By seeing the way that my dad has gotten back up after being knocked down countless number of times, “he taught me to be strong” (line 27). Even though my dad may not realize this, he is the reason why I am willing to take chances in life. In 2008, my family was going through a rough time financially, when our family business was failing, but my dad did not mourn over the losses or mistakes, but rather attempted to make things better.
In the poem ¨My Father¨ by Scott Hightower, the author describes a rather unstable relationship with his now deceased father. Scott describes his father as a mix of both amazing and atrocious traits. The father is described as someone who constantly contradicts himself through his actions. He is never in between but either loving and heroic or cold and passive. The relationship between Scott and his father is shown to be always changing depending on the father’s mood towards him. He sees his father as the reason he now does certain things he finds bad. But at the end of it all, he owes a great deal to his father. Scott expresses that despite his flaws, his father helped shape the man he is today. Hightower uses certain diction, style, and imagery to
In the short story The Father by Hugh Garner there is boy who’s father is not involved in his life. This is mostly because he is always drunk. Because of this Johnny, the father’s son, has not really been able to connect with his father. He is never there for Johnny when he needs him and is always embarrassing him. This made me really sad as I cannot imagine living without a loving father. I do not think that anyone should have to live without the care of their father. I can only imagine how sad that Johnny must have felt to not have a good father in his life. It must have been very hard for Johnny to see all of the other scout and their father’s at the banquet, knowing that he would never have a good father-son relationship with his dad. The fact that he did not feel comfortable asking his dad to come to the scouts banquet himself,
The fundamental characteristic of magical realism is its duality, which enables the reader to experience both the character’s past and the present. In the novel, Monkey Beach, Eden Robinson uses this literary device to address the the trauma and mistreatment of the Haisla community in Canada by unveiling the intimate memories of the protagonist, Lisamarie, and the resulting consequences of this oppression. Monkey Beach illustrates how abuse in the past leads to another form of self-medication in the future - a neverending, vicious cycle for the members of the Haisla community. Many characters in Monkey Beach are scarred from childhood sexual abuse and family neglect, and resort to drug and alcohol abuse as a coping mechanism. These appalling memories are an account of the impact of colonization on the Haisla territory which continues to haunt the Aboriginal community throughout generations.
Toni Cade Bambara, a well known author and social activist, uses language and experience to incite change in a warped society that marginalizes its people based on language, race, and class. With the utilization of African American English (AAE), Bambara sheds light on some questionable prejudices and problems with capitalism in American society. Bambara’s works are noted for their use of traditional AAE and its support in teaching the overall “lesson” and the underlying message to the public. The majority of Bambara’s works were inspired by and written in response to her experiences of growing up a black woman, of lower class status, in Harlem. Her short story, “The Lesson,” is no exception. Bambara uses first person narrative, omission of tense markers, and African American English to prove her point that even with education, wealth and prosperity are unevenly distributed throughout the United States.
Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.
In the four years since we became parents, I have learned to stand back, step aside, and let Daddy do it – HIS WAY. I have learned to encourage him. I have learned to appreciate him. I have learned not to question or criticize his efforts. And I have learned not to insist that he do things my way – unless I want to wind up doing it myself going forward. I’m not perfect – I still have my moments where my mommy control flips on and I think that my way is the only right way. But, deep down, I know better. I know just how good Daddy is at being a daddy!
A father is someone who protects, loves, supports and raises his children, whether they are biologically related or not. Every single person living on the Earth has a biological father. These biological fathers are supposed to take the responsibility of being a father because they did help bring a child into this world. One of the main responsibilities of a father is providing the child with the necessities of life, which include food, shelter, and clothes. Not only is a father responsible for the physical aspect but the emotional aspect as well. Children need to feel loved, cared for, and emotional support from their parents. A child needs to be reassured, so a father must show his affection, both physically and emotionally. A father needs to be involved in his children’s life. He needs to be a problem solver, playmate, provider, preparer, and he has to have principles. A father has to pr...
My father has been a great influence in my life. The reason why my dad has influenced me is because he was able to raise me. My dad raised my two brothers and me by himself because my mother passed away. The day when my mother passed away was hardest time for us all. My brother and I were in waiting room with a friend of my Dad’s. My Dad came out of my mother’s room with worried face. My Dad told us that mother was not feeling well, so we
The dad in a family is someone who is the male figure in a family. He is there to help the mother raise a child or children. A child will spend their whole life looking up to the big man in the house because he is the one who fixes everything, interrogates the first boyfriend and the one who will be there to walk their daughter down the aisle. A father is an important person in a child life, but when a father ends up not being their for the child there is so much missed out on. Not having a dad for seven-teen years is a difficult thing and that is what I had to deal with. Finally realizing the day of longing was over I had a huge feeling of relief. When I looked into my dad loving brown eyes for the very first time it was the most waited for experience in the seven teen years of my life.
My father was always there for me, whether I wanted him to be or not. Most of the time, as an adolescent trying to claim my independence, I saw this as a problem. Looking back I now realize it was a problem every child needs, having a loving father. As hard as I tried to fight it, my dad instilled in me the good values and work ethic to be an honest and responsible member of society. He taught me how to be a good husband. He taught me how to be a good father. He taught me how to be a man. It has been 18 years since my father’s death, and I am still learning from the memories I have of him.

In the Toyota commercial, “How to be a Dad”, we see numerous dads come on screen and give an emotional testimony of the impact their dad had on their life. Most of these men had a negative impact from their dad in their life in one way or another, whether it be the dad not being there, abusive or just not as loving as a dad should be. But growing up that couldn’t have been more opposite for me and my dad. He was a role model, teacher, a lover and someone I looked up to and could tell anything too no matter what. This commercial truly had an impact on me and made me realize that not everyone was raised like me.
In life like many things certain people are very valuable to us, when a child is brought into this world his or her parents lives are changed forever, perhaps making it less theirs and more of their child’s. However, nowadays children fail to realize that before their parents got the role of mom and dad, they had lives of their own. Quite frankly, I believe that most children lack interest in their parent’s lives like their childhood, best moments in life and bucket list things that are fulfilled to this day. Finding out at first what my final research paper for my first college English class was an exciting moment knowing it would be writing about my father’s life, a man, filled with experiences and stories to tell. My father is always hardworking
I then looked at myself and the decisions I’ve been making throughout my life and decided that it was not anything my father would be proud of me doing so I made the choice to do better not only for myself but for him. My first tattoo I chose was my father’s name “Ramon” because whenever I decide that I am going to make a good or bad decision I realize that he is watching over me. I once heard a quote that stated: “Before you pick up the phone, before you dial a number, before you do anything, check your heart.” Which is why I always strive to be the person I can be, but nobody is perfect because as human-beings we all are going to experience trials and tribulations. Losing my father made me open my eyes as I became more maturer to realize that I should be completing my work and not always being nonchalant. Therefore the only thing that keeps my head up every morning I wake up is knowing that I am working towards my goals in life to make my father
