Prostitution is one of the most controversial social issues in today’s day and age, since it is unclear what is the correct stance on it. Ever since the instantiation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms in 1982, there has been constant fall out surrounding the legitimacy of prostitution within Canada (law source). Prostitution is the act of engaging in sexual services with another person in exchange for money; it is illegal in some countries while others regulate it. Within society many women face serious social issues that push them into a position where income via nirmal means may just not be possible. So they become deviant and turn to a dangerous path of the sex trade. If it were regulated and controlled people like that would have a safer place to turn, if society is going to produce prostitutes and since it will never go away why not support it and try and have gains for the individual as well as society. Generating revenue for the economy as well as for the individual to support themselves in a safer environment than what is happening today. This is know as harm minimilization (jeffreys). Prostitution is inevitable its goin to happen anyway so why not regulate it, create a safer environment and produce some money growth for the government and individual. An example of our outdated laws is that being a pornstar is legal since the law is too broad. So paying for sex is not illegal but soliciting payment for sexual services and advertising for business is illegal. Since two porn actors don’t pay eachother for sex it is completely okay. Since one person hasn’t solicited either the payment or services from the other individual (hg.org). An example of a regulated country that legalized prostitution is the netherlands, it is legalized so it is far safer for women and someone without a pimp can rent out a window on the popular “Red Light District” and safely use it and be protected. Although there is still some crime behind the surface most individuals are there of thair own free will. So even though the legalization hasn’t completely mitigated the problem (that would still be there anyway) it has made for a safer working environment that has become possible to make money
