This is shown in the text when the Sniper describes how aiming for his target will be a hard shot. This is because of how the Sniper was shot in the arm, and the distance from where he is to the other side of the street. When the Sniper did fire his gun at the enemy after deceiving him of thinking that he was dead, the bullet did hit his target. Once everything is done and he has achieved his goal he checks to see if he knew the other sniper he killed. Finally when going to see who he has shot, the Sniper looks “into his brother face.” But before revealing that the Sniper kills his own brother the author puts in clues, such as when the Sniper looks to see who he killed because of his curiosity, this foreshadows that the Sniper will most likely know who he killed. Also the author describes the moves the Sniper takes to trick his enemy into thinking he was dead so he could shoot his target this detailed description gives the reader an understanding of the story. In other words when the author reveals that the Sniper killed his brother it shows that actions have consequences, because the Sniper’s action of ‘killing the enemy’ was actually ‘killing his brother’. By using foreshadow and description, the author shapes the story to form the
In “The Sniper” the conflict is man vs man, which means main character is tasked with killing his enemy, but it proves to be quite a challenge. Even though there were many challenges the sniper followed through with his job and persevered even after he was shot in the arm. Wanting to kill his enemy, stay alive, and be one step closer to ending the war was his main goals. Being brave, he took off his hat, placed it on his gun, and raised it above the edge of the roof. Instantly the enemy shot at it and the sniper, pretending to be dead, waited until the enemy got up for him to shoot him. He did some quick thinking and, with determination, handled the conflict quite well.

Murder is a reprobate action that is an inevitable part of war. It forces humans into immoral acts, which can manifest in the forms such as shooting or close combat. The life of a soldier is ultimately decided from the killer, whether or not he follows through with his actions. In the short stories The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty and Just Lather, That's All by Hernando Téllez, the killer must decide the fate of their victims under circumstantial constraints. The two story explore the difference between killing at a close proximity compared to killing at a distance, and how they affect the killer's final decision.

Primarily, “Killings” concerns a crime and its consequences. The lead character, Matt Fowler goes one step too far and identifies with the evil that tragically marred his life-the murder of his son. Matt and his friend Willis Trottier executed Richard Strout, the man who killed his son. This murder was more of a private revenge than of protection but the character’s act was partially motivated by his wish to protect his wife who suffered every time she encounters their son’s murderer ( & , 2000, ). As Dubus wrote, “Ruth can’t even go out for cigarettes and aspirin....She sees him all the time. It makes her cry” ( ). While it is obviously too late to protect his son, Fowler experiences his son’s murder as an assault on his fatherhood and on his wish to protect his children. Matt could no longer tolerate watching his wife deteriorate before his eyes simply because she cannot cope with the loss of their son. Finally, he decided to bring grief resolution to both of them by killing Strout.

Eventually the republican sniper gains the upper hand and after taking a bullet in the arm destroys the worthy opponent. After a curious inspection to the identity of the enemy sniper he finds himself looking into the eyes of his dead brother.
“The Trusty” is a work of fiction, written by Ron Rash, that tells the story of a man and a woman who try to escape their lives. In the beginning, the story is told in the minor character’s point of view. Limited information is given about Anders. The readers are not informed of his age, his educational background, profession, etc. Although the author expressed that he is a critic, it is not established where he works or what his status is in life. Limiting information is a way to engage the readers in reading as they inquire about the background of the main character. The angle of narration thus helps to make the story more interesting and mysterious. As the bullet hits the brain, the point of view shifts to the novelist’s point of view or the omniscient angle which sees everything, including the bullet in the brain, the past experiences that Anders set aside in his memory and the reminiscences of childhood when he played with his cousins. The omniscient viewpoint works to provide the readers what they ought to know, which facial reaction or dialogues alone could fail to show.
Then there is the scene where the audience is introduced to the two bank robbers. The bank robbers appear to the audience out of the blue. James Kelman opts to introduce the two bank robbers through the eyes of Anders. Rather than Kelman passively adding the bank robbers into the story, the men appear through Anders’ perspective. Once the bank robbers are brought into the story, Anders’ is facing away. This is seen as Wolff writers: In this case, the audience is presented with the main characters point of view, and that is understanding there is something happening through the actions of others in which Anders is looking at. Anders is ultimately shot after repeated warnings from the gunman to Anders is defenceless and does not threaten the gunman, rather, he only
