The Sniper Analysis

“Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind”-John Fitzgerald kennedy to the UN general assembly, sept. 25,1961. This quote explains how war will be the end to everything on earth if not stopped. This is connected to “the sniper” because war tears family and friends apart can also ruin the earth and make the earth uninhabitable to live on. The central idea is that war can tear people apart.

A similarity for “The sniper” and “ the man he killed” is they both had to kill. In “The sniper” he had to kill the enemy or the enemy would kill him(O’flaherty,208).This is the same for “the man he killed” “I shot him dead because- because he was my foe.”(Hardly). But the stories also have different aspects like in “The sniper” he killed his brother “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother’s face” (O’flaherty,208). But in “The man he killed” he killed a stranger “I shot at him as he at me and killed him in his place”(hardly,7-9). These are ways that “The sniper”and “ The man he killed” are similar and different aspects of the plot.

A Similarity for both the works is that if not for war they could have been friends. In “the sniper” is “ Then the sniper turned over the dead body and

looked into his brother’s face.” (O’flaherty,208). If the war never started then he and his brother would never of fought against each other and his brother never would of been killed. In “The man he killed” is “had he and I but met by some old ancient inn, we should have sat us down to wet right many nipperkin!”(hardly,1-4).If the war never started then his brother never would of been shot and died. A difference for the two is that in “The man he killed” he shot a stranger and in “the sniper” he killed his brother.
The theme of the two stories is that war tears people apart.

For example in the sniper the theme is that war tears people and family apart. In “the Sniper” and “the Man he killed” is that wear tears family apart. For example in “The Sniper” the author says “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brothers face.” (O’Flaherty 208) In “the man he killed” the author says “ The main idea of the two story’s is that war can tear people and family’s apart.These story’s prove how if war never begain then the family never would have lost a brother and the strangers might of become friends. War ruens lives and family’s. If people never fought then one day enemy’s have the chance to be

friends.
