The maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic will always be a day marked in history as a night to remember. Why did the Titanic not make it to her port in New York City from her trek across the Atlantic Ocean? The Titanic was designed to take passengers from England, France and Ireland to North America (Gunner). What happened that night the Titanic sank down to her cold watery grave to the bottom North Atlantic? Was it from the design of the ship or perhaps from poor building materials, human naivety and error; or simply a combination of all of these things? The Titanic’s sinking was a combination of all these things but mostly from human naivety and error with their belief of the ship to be unsinkable.
The Titanic was built by White Star Lines under the management of J. Bruce Ismay. He had the Belfast shipbuilders Harland and Wolff build the Titanic along with two other ships. The ship builders worked nine hours each day for six days out of the week until the Titanic was finished being built. On April 10, 1912 the RMS Titanic began her maiden voyage (Gunner).
The massive ship was about 880 feet long, ninety feet in breadth, weighed about 52,300 tons, and had 4.6 million cubic feet of space (Gunner). The Titanic was supposed to be watertight, and for safety elements, it had sixteen watertight compartments separated by doors that were automatic or could be controlled by the crew. It had twenty-nine boilers with 159 furnaces, and a maximum speed of twenty-four knots. The ship was built with two layers of steel to provide extra strength, this was called having a double bottom hull. (Levinson 144).
The Titanic left port to begin its maiden voyage on April 10th, 1912. It left from Southampton, England and was due to arrive on April 17th, 1...

...en aloud, and for the fact that they never had their lifeboat drills so they were unsure of the weight capacity. All of these things mixed together had all contributed to a great catastrophe that will go down in history as “the night to remember.”

and it caused many deaths and lot of pain for their families. Design and manufacturer 3,000,000 of materials used in the construction of the ship. The titanic is a mixture of iron and steel. Titanic was conceived with only three funnels to service the massive boilers, The White Star Company thought it necessary that a ship of such grandeur must possess four funnels. There are only three of the funnels that were functional and the fourth one was purely aesthetic, smoke and waste gasses were expelled through the first three funnels.
This British ocean liner was one of the biggest cruise ships ever made. The ship began its maiden voyage in the early morning of April 10, 1912 from Southampton, England to New York City. Mainly the ships 2,200 passengers were of deathly upper-class families looking for a good time in the city, while a smaller amount was people going to the city to find work. Many thought that when they board the ship, they were in for the trip of a lifetime. Well, that trip soon ended in tragedy. The Titanic sank early in the morning on the 15th when the ship hit an iceberg. Captain Edward J. Smith had the ship sailing full speed ahead despite the concerns about several icebergs. The ship received multiple warnings about dangerous ice fields in the North over the telegraph. General Corfield who was in charge of warning the captain of any obstacles along the way, said he failed to pass the warning along by senior radio operator, Jack Phillips. The “unsinkable” was actually built with very sinkable cheap material. It was built with low-grade iron rivets instead of the more expensive higher-grade material rivets. These small details easily could have been avoided (history.com
In 1909, construction on the beauty of the seas began. The titanic took 3 years to build. It was built in Belfast, North Ireland. It was built by Harland and Wolff. 250 workers got injured or died during the making of the beautiful, huge, 52,310 tons, Titanic.
The Titanic worked like you would expect. Just like any other boat or ship, it floated because it weighed less than the amount of liquid it displaced. However, many factors contributed to the sinking of the Titanic. Rivets are very
The Titanic did not include all the lifeboats they actually had, because the lifeboats took away the attractiveness from the boat. They had 16 boats actually on the ship that saved some people from the sinking ship. There were about 660 people in the boats 1,500 were still on the sinking ship Titanic. There were only 2 lifeboats had a light. The Titanic has carried boats enough for 1,178 people, only one third of her capacity. Sixteen boats and four collapsible
In “R.M.S. Titanic,” by Hanson W. Baldwin says, “... the iceberg’s jagged claw had ripped a three-hundred-foot gash in the bottom of the great Titanic” (Baldwin, Page 5). This was the fundamental cause the “unsinkable” Titanic
We have all heard about the Titanic. Either we have watched the romance movie or done our research in a different way. No matter where we get our information from we know the biggest parts of the tragedy. The ship Titanic crashed into an iceberg on a cold April night on the Atlantic Ocean while sailing its first trip. But haven’t you ever wanted to know more details about? Maybe how the people who were on it and survived? How could the situation be prevented? Couldn’t they have saved more people? Well in the book “A Night to Remember” it has details on the Titanic you have probably never thought of knowing. While reading the first chapter some parts really caught my attention. One was when people felt the jolt from the collision with the ice berg people didn’t suspect what tragedy was to come. A girl named Marguerite Frolicher, who was accompanying her father on a business trip, woke up with a jump since she was half asleep she was thinking about ‘little white lake ferries’ landing sloppily which made her laugh and thought to herself “Isn’t it funny…we’re landing!”. They really did...

April 11, 1912, the RMS Titanic set sail to America. The passenger boat was the trip of a lifetime. The Titanic The ship took two years to construct and build- many people believed it was unsinkable. On the fourth night of sailing, April 15, 1912, the RMS Titanic sunk into the pits of the Atlantic ocean and changed the world forever. Overall, there was 2,208 people who boarded the ship in total. Only 708 people survived (Deborah Hopkinson Titanic; Voices from the Disaster 12). This tragic accident changed the world for the worse.
The Unsinkable Ship That Sank On the day of April 12,1912, Titanic was thought to be the dream ship that could never be destroyed. Like today’s society, the passengers were enjoying the time of their lives and thought nothing could ever happen to them because everybody thinks it’s the “unsinkable” ship, or at least that’s what everyone knew it to be. White Star Line’s Titanic was called the “Ship of dreams”. As they loaded up, many passengers of different classes and sectors of society thought that, that was the ticket to their dreams. But as time pass by from enjoying too much, little do they know that the ship is sinking.
In April of 1908, the construction of the RMS Titanic was announced. Building the ship did not start until March 31, 1909, after her older sister, the Olympic ,underwent construction on November 16, 1908. These two ships were basically the same except for one thing: the Titanic was 1,000 tons bigger. Approximately 15,000 workers were hired to build the ocean liner. It cost $7.5 million to build (Hopkinson, Deborah). Seven months after the Olympic was first launched, the Titanic followed on May 31, 1911. More than 100,000 spectators came to watch the event. Construction finally ended on April 2, 1912, eight days before the maiden voyage was to begin.
On April 30, 1907, an idea was born out of the minds of Bruce Ismay and William James Pirrie to build an unsinkable ship: the Titanic. A company, Harland and Wolff, out of Belfast, Ireland were commissioned to build this miraculous ship (United States). The company made quick work, and within a few days short of five years, the Titanic was then ready to set sail from its location in Belfast to Southampton, England. On April 10, 1912, the Titanic left for Southampton and arrived within the next 24 hours. There were 2,223 passengers consisting of immigrants to millionaires on board preparing to set sail for New York hoping to find their way to a better life (United States). The Titanic gave many people a chance to start a new life in America,
The Titanic was built to be unsinkable, with 16 watertight compartments to help keep it afloat. Many people called the R.M.S. Titanic “unsinkable”, because of how large it was. To many the Titanic, being the biggest ship, also meant it was the best. Publishers Weekly; 3/19/2012, Vol. 259 Issue 12, p30-32, 3p. The ship was advertised as “unsinkable as reasonably possible,” because of it’s numerous safety features. These features included automatic watertight doors, watertight bulkheads and compartments throughout the ship, the most powerful marconi at sea and the Titanic was so large, that it was thought that anything large enough to damage it would be seen in time. They were wrong. Courier Mail, The (Brisbane). 04/03/2012, p38-38. 1.
The Titanic set voyage on April 1912 to New York. The Titanic and its sister ships, Olympia and Britannic were said to be virtually unsinkable by a magazine article, not the White Star Line. The Titanic was the second ship to set sail on its maiden voyage out of the three sister ships. The Titanic had been built a lot differently than most of the ships back then. For example, a normal ship was built with three funnels but the Titanic had four. The fourth funnel did not serve the same purpose like the other three; its use was for steam to be released from the kitchen. Another example was that the Titanic was the biggest ship at the time. The ship had received ice warnings at least six different times from ships but Captain Smith had ignored
The Titanic was a giant of a ship one of the biggest that has ever been built at that time. No one had seen anything like it. In, fact it was the biggest man made moving object that had ever been built. The Titanic was first set in the port in Liverpool, England. “The ship was eight hundred and eighty- two feet and nine inches long. “ With over eight hundred and forty rooms on the ship the Titanic was ready to go for all classes. The Titanic was ready to set sail on its long journey from Southampton to the Big Apple in New York City, United
