Recommended: Differences between Islam and Christianity
Although Islam and Christianity are two different religions they have many things in common and the differences they do have are also similar. Both religions believe that there is one god in the universe and they also each have similar prophets that they believe in. Muslims believe in their god referred to as Allah and one prophet that they as a religion believe in named Mohammad while Christians believe in their god that they refer to as God and prophets such as John the Baptist along with other prophets that the Islam faith, along with others, believe in as well. Each Islam and Christianity also have a book or guide that they use in their religions for teaching their faith. It has a set of “rules” that they are supposed to follow and includes rituals that believers should take part in. Christians look to the bible for prayer and Muslims look to the Qu’ran. Islam faith on the other hand, I had no knowledge of, I always thought of it as a stricter catholic faith and that was all. The history of both religions where new to me and changed some of the thoughts that I had about the past of Christianity. I did not know about some the major events that changed the religion majorly, they seemed to have left those parts out at Sunday school. The views of a Christian were about the same as the ones that I was taught along with the small amount of the culture that I had learned about as well. With the Islam faith I had learned about their values and about their culture and I did notice several similarities between the two. The ones that I have pointed out so far along with that both religions include fasting, prayer several times a day, and giving yourself to your god and putting your life in their
Catholicism and Islam contrast more than they show similarity. Catholicism is more oriented towards everyone because it gives women and minorities the same rights as men, it allows them to actively participate. Whereas Islam is geared towards a more patriarchal society; women were considered the property of men. Another difference is that Christianity became popular during a time of social, political, and religious conflict. Islam arose during a relatively stagnant period in history. Christianity was a religion that appealed to everyone: Jews and gentiles; men and women; rich and poor.
Christianity and Islam are two religions that grew from the same central idea of one divine being; they also originate from Jerusalem. However, the two religions bear great disparity but they also hold a few similarities. Both Islam and Christianity believe in Abraham as the forefather of both religions; they believe Him to be the founder of the two religions. The two religions have a holy book; Islam uses the Quran while Christians use the bible. Even though the two books do not bear the same teachings they are considered sacred in both religions. However, Christianity and Islam share a great deal of differences starting from the holy books, their beliefs, and the information contained in the respective holy book (Kavanaugh, 5).
The Christians have their book known as the Bible. Lastly, the Islamic people have their book known as the Quran. All three of these books have scriptures. These three major religions also share a belief that there is one major area that they claim as their Holy Land. The Jews and the Christians claim Jerusalem, Israel as their Holy Land while the Islamic people claim Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The world religions of Islam and Christianity may have their differences to the naked eye, but when you take a closer look into their histories similarities arise. They both went through transformations that had drastic impacts on the way they were controlled and the way that the religion was taught to the followers. Christianity and Islam have both experienced splits between their members due to the fact that followers thought that their beliefs were the correct way to practice the religion. While these transformations are long in the past, the splits that have occurred within each religion continue to have lasting effects on Islam and Christianity to this day.
Most of the contemporary problems bedeviling our society are because of lack of proper spiritual anchorage. Civil and technological differentiations embodied in the media have aggravated the situation. Technological differentiation has undermined religion by taking the place of spirituality in adherents’ lives.
In conclusion, I find that these two religions are very interesting. I really have learned a lot about these two different religions. I could have gone on and on about all the similarities and differences of these two religions. It was very informative to look at two completely different religions than mine and made me think about how little I actually know about my own.
Swords clash, bombs explode, and governments disintegrate; the world is at war and God is the Commanding General for both sides? Past, present, and future, there is in fact a Holy War being waged. The combatants are not your typical organized armies, they are bodies of faith. Religious conflict has been a staple of existence since the beginning of time. Ted Hodges, expert in conflicts in history, said “Some of the worst wars, mass murders, and other outbreaks of violence in history have been motivated by religious hatred or revenge. And often the roots of such violence and hatred are found in an event or grievance that occurred hundreds or even thousands of years earlier” (Hodges 48). So why is this? What makes it so necessary for peoples of a religion to wage war? No answer has been found to date (Hodges 14).
Islam and Christianity seem to have very little in common; however, the two actually show strong likeness, principally in the central areas. Both Muslims and Christians are monotheists, believing in one God. While both believe in the same God, He is called by two completely different names. He is referred to as "Allah" by Muslims and "God" by Christians. Although Islam and Christianity are two different religions, their similarities in beliefs and prayers make them comparable in many aspects.
Christians pray in a church, Confucists worship in a Kong Miao, and Muslims pray in a mosque. They also have founders. The founder of Christianity is Jesus, Confucianism is Confucist, and Islam is Muhammad. Each of these wonderful religions have a core statement which explains the main point of the religion. Christianity teaches that in order to be saved and be granted entrance
Despite these significant similarities, the difference keeps the followers of the two religions apart. My religion considers Jesus to be a great prophet of god and we respect Jesus just like any Abraham, Moses and Muhammad. On the other hand, Christian consider Jesus as the son of god, a notion we Muslims cannot accept. However, I think it’s time for people to overlook the diffrences and embrace the commonalties. Christianity and Islam are two religions that share countless similarities. Some being that they both believe in moral conduct, they both are confrontational religions, and they both believe in an afterlife. Both religions attempt to help an individual become a better “you”.
But they still both have different views in who is right to follow and who is wrong to follow. It’s safe to say that these people have huge similarities in the fact that they, believe that there is a great God above them that watches over them, but it is not necessarily the holy bible God that people most commonly believe in. With the Jewish, they believe Jesus did not fulfill messianic prophecies that establish the criteria for the coming of the messiah. Authoritative texts of Judaism reject Jesus as God, Divine Being, intermediary between humans and God, messiah or saint. And the Islamic the Arabic word for God is Allah.
Although Islam and Christianity differ in major ways, they also share some similarities in their belief in God. First of all, Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic religions; worshipping only one God. While both believe in the same God, he is called by two completely different names. He is referred to as "Allah" by Muslims and "God" by Christians. The basic creed of Islam is brief: “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah”.
But when examined closely, we again see the profound differences between the two religions, such as different conceptions of God, of revelation, the Bible, about the relationship between God and man. The conception of God, Christians believe in the Trinity, the divinity of Jesus, his death on the cross and his resurrection, while Muslims believe that Allah (God) the only One, Allah who Independence and Savior. He was born there, he born from nobody and no one equals him. About Revelation, Christians believe: God freely through Jesus reveals himself as God and Son of God who was made man to reveal God's love for man. With Muslims, Mahomet last prophet of Allah and who have been appointed to write the holy book Quran.
Islam and Christianity have a vast amount of similarities as well as differences. Islam searches for guidance from the Qur’an and Christianity depends on faith in Jesus. Islamic faith believes in the God, Allah. Above anything else, all religious Muslims obey Allah and his commandments to obtain peace. On other hand, Christianity puts faith in Jesus who is the son of God. A major concept that separates both of the religions is the fact that the God of each faith has different qualities. This means Islam and Christianity don’t worship the same God. Islam and Christianity are two separate belief systems in which two separate Gods exist.
The world we live in is made up of many different groups of people. Among all of these different groups are different views and beliefs. Marriage, education and abortion are all topics that these different groups have opposing views on, and the same can be said about religion. There are thousands of religions that are unique from one another with different beliefs. Although these religions have been differentiated from one another and made their own, they still have similarities that can be found.
