The Similar Paths Taken by Characters in Soldier Boys

Soldier Boys is about 2 boys from different places from the world, but they are both fighting for the same thing, and that is freedom. Spencer who is from USA, and Dieter who is from Germany. Both of the boys are from small families,and both of the boys are minor citizens. The book starts of with Spencer trying to convince his father that he want to go the the military, and fight for his freedom. His father and mother does not agree with this, but as the conflict continues, his father signs the contract.

Dieter who is in the Hitler Youth, he starts practicing to prove his toughness for his leader Hans Keller. When Spence goes to boot camp, he meets a man called Ted Draney, who becomes his best friend. Teds wants to quit but if Spence quits he is afraid to be called a coward. After three day at the boot camp half of the recruits had already quitted, The rest gets sent to a camp, which is much harder. When Spencer jumped out of a plane for the first time, he was really scared but he made it through,but Ted said he didn't want to do it again.

Dieter gets a call and is asked to put on his finest uniform and to go outside at dawn. When he went outside he meets all his Hitler Youth general. They get picked up exactly at 5 am. They go to a conference where they meet Hitler himself. Dieter said it was the best thing that happened to him. Some days later dieter gets taken out of the commands and gets sent to the commands In the front. There he meets the corporal named Schafler. Dieter is asked to follow his orders at all times.

Now it's Christmas and spence is just been promoted to the 17th airborne infantry division. Mother infantry groups are making rumors about Spencer's group getting sent to Germany. Spencer is now trying to get ticke...

...lling. Spencer fought as crazy. When the fight starts calming down and the enemies were retreating, Spencer and the boys heard a young boy screaming “Schaefer”. They boys just wanted to finish him right now. But Spencer went down and looked at him. The boy was bleeding from his leg. So Spencer dragged him up to the hilltop. The next thing that spencer saw was a bright flash, and then he had problems breathing. He could hear the voices fading away. Spencer was trying to call for help but he felt to much pain in his chest. He was thinking about his dad and how sorry he was to make the decision to go to war.

The next day Dieter woke up in an hospital, he didn't know what was going on so he asked a general what happened to Schaefer and the American boy that helped me. The general answered that they both died. But Dieter would be to if Spencer wouldn't have helped him.
