The Shining (Kubrick, 1980) is one of the best scary movie I have seen. It use the sound track and the low angle shooting to represent the terror. It does’t have very bloody scenes, but It can make us want to dig more about the details in this movie.
The first time to see the movie, I don’t understand the meaning of “redrum” which is written by Danny with the lipstick. Then I tried to translate it, I still can’t understand why they put such a word in this movie. After the second time seeing this movie at home, I thought there might have two explanation of this word. First, when Danny’s mom Wendy see “redrum” in the mirror, the “redrum” changed in to “murder”. That infers to that there was a murder happened in this hotel that connected to the start of the movie. Another possibility is the “redrum” suggests

“red room”. So that it can be connected with the scenes Danny had seen that the room filled with blood. It is easy to see both Danny and Dick have the shining.
Because they can see the things will happen in the future. However, is there any possibility that Jack also has the shining? He can see the scenes that Danny and Wendy playing in the tree maze from the model. Another things we should consider is his dream. In his dream, he killed Danny and Wendy. That is also a prediction to his future actions (try to kill his son and wife).
At the last part of this movie, we can see the picture hanging on the wall and Jack is one of those people in that picture. It was taken in 1921. In the picture, he is standing in the most eye- catching position. He maybe the owner of this hotel at that time. But in the movie (1982) he becomes the owner of the hotel again! I think that’s why he mentions to Danny that he wants to stay in the hotel forever, forever, forever…… His life is repeating and repeating. Furthermore, he is the main character of the repeating stories and he will die in the hotel every time!
Another thing is the bartender’s name is Lloyd, and to my horror, the little actors’ name is Danny Lloyd. I don’t know is it a coincidence or the director’s careful
planning. In conclusion, it is a great movie to see and to think. I don’t think it is so scary for the first time seeing. But you will find, the more times you see, you will feel scarier than the last time. That is why this is a great movie.
If Jack wanted to make it out alive and potentially see his family again, he would have to set some guidelines for himself. First, he would need to make sure to stay as clean as possible. Everyone had lice at one point or another. At one point Jack got Dysentary and a mild case Typhus. He also needed to save up as much food as he could while still eating all he could get each day. Lastly, Jack knew he had to make companions. Having someone he could rely on meant he would be protected and cared for. Jack made a few friends along the way. To this day he is still friendly with Moniek (Moan-yek) a boy just a year older then him that traveled to three camps beside him. Jack was liberated at the age of 18. He had to goals when he was released. The first goal was to recuperate from the damage over the years, and the second goal was to try and find his family. Unfortunately, to Jack’s despair all of his immediate family had been killed. Now that he was aware of the loss of his family he had no reason to stay in the ruins of Europe. Jack decided to build a new life in America. Today he is a successful businessman, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is also devoted to Holocaust education and has shared his story with
For example the connotation ‘red’ is the colour of fire, danger, power, caution and malice. ‘Red’ is an emotionally intense colour and is a consistent theme that builds up like a heated fire because Peter is full of rage and wrath and he is the “red herring” because he is distracting the mum from the truth about the abuse he is causing.
One of the things that changes Jack was his hatred and drives him to the point where he was willing to kill. In the beginning he was a choir boy who knew nothing much, but his hatred grew when he was not elected leader. In the book it quote “And you shut up! Who are you anyway? Sitting here telling people what to do. You can’t hunt, you can’t sing-” (91). This quote shows that Jack had
When Jack arrived at the Overlook hotel it was evident that he had suffered from substance abuse in the past. Jack had once been a heavy alcoholic. This addiction had caused him to inflict violence upon his child in a violent rage. During this rage he snatched his son up by the arm and broke it. Although it is not clear, this could have been a sign that he was manic depressant. His mania could have been storms of violent rage instead of a constant high. In the beginning of the movie the viewer learns that Jack is a writer. This “creative” career” also has an important impact on his depression because his career can be up or down. In many cases, people who have careers in the arts such as writing, art, or acting can experience times of insecurity, which can induce a depressive state. This new change allowed Jack to start fresh and enable him to write with no distractions.
In his classic horror film, The Shining, Stanley Kubrick utilizes many different elements of editing to create unique and terrifying scenes. Kubrick relies on editing to assist in the overall terrifying and horrifying feel created in the movie. Editing in the movie creates many different effects, but the most notable effects created add to the continuity of the film as well as the sense of fear and terror.
When Jack does this, the information remains the main focus rather than the story and the story was sometimes clumped together without any information given. The story and information elements are there, but the whole process of creating this test was sometimes filled with just information. In addition, some of the things he talked about while trying to weave the information and story together were rushed and as a result, the story aspect of creating the actual test moved to getting it approved. Sometimes, the information seems to become the main focus while the story gets pushed to the side as if it was nothing, suspending the story as more information was added in between each part of the
We 've all seen the “REDRUM” scene hundreds of times in movies, however this clip is where that classic scene made it 's first debut, in Stanley Kubrick 's movie adaptation of Stephen King 's novel The Shining. The Shining is a movie about a family that lives in the Overlook hotel one winter. The father, Jack goes mad and attempts to murder his wife and son, Wendy and Danny. Stanley Kubrick 's The Shining is packed full of subtext, which many people have developed theories about from speculation. Today I will be discussing just three themes people have expanded on within the movie, the genocide of native Americans, the Holocaust, and the apollo space program.
In most well made films, “hidden” symbols are waiting to be uncovered by a discerning eye. Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is undoubtedly one of these films that have an abundance of symbols, many of which have even caused the birth of conspiracy theories. Using blood, a German typewriter, and a maze as symbols, Kubrick is able to create an underlying theme that history repeats itself when people do not learn from their mistakes.
People might say one text of evidence is that he stole the gold in the beginning of the story. This seems to suggest that Jack is trying to help his family by stealing the gold and putting it to good use instead of letting it stay there catching dust. It is basically that Jack is now a criminal because he is stealing something the ogre earned or collected. It is also true that Jack stole the golden hen. Some may say Jack runs out of the gold, and he just wants to help his family again. In reality, he steals another thing when he should have put the gold into a job. Overall, Jack is a greedy and sneaky young bo,y stealing golden items from a giant
Stephen King's novel The Shining tells of the horrors that face the Torrence family when they spend a winter in the haunted Overlook Hotel. Antagonist Jack Torrence, a recovering alcoholic with violent tendencies when under the influence, desperately searches for a job after losing his position as an English teacher at a local high school. Committed to proving to his wife Wendy and five-year-old son Danny that he has changed for the better, Jack agrees to work as the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook. Though Jack and Wendy are unaware that the Overlook is haunted, Danny knows better. Dick Hollorann, the chef at the Overlook during its busy season, calls Danny's ability to see what others don't "the shining". He also tells Danny to send him a psychic message if things start going haywire while Danny and his family stay there. Jack eventually goes mad, possessed by the hotel, goes on a mission to kill Wendy and capture Danny. Danny calls for Hollarann who instantly comes to the rescue. The novel ends with Wendy, Danny and Hollarann escaping the hotel just before it explodes with Jack in it. Despite Dick Hollarann's absence for a large portion of the novel, he possesses various qualities which qualify him to be characterized as a hero. Not only does Hollarann have a likable personality, he also adequately displays humility, selflessness and courage.
...sure of truth, and Murray's claims as to the strength of families having a direct correlation with the inability to perceive reality, Jack's family nonetheless, and the "extransensory" moments he shares with them, prove to him that feelings like these don't exist solely on a biological level, that their reality lies not in their chemical composition but in another separate reality, a reality which allows Jack to affirm the actuality of the "actual."
The whole entire story could've had an entire different outcome if Jack didn’t have so many personality blemishes. Jack seems like he has something wrong with him as far as handling his emotions go. He is always very mean to Piggy and was the first to thirst for blood.
For my money, The Shining is the greatest horror film ever made. The setting is a real hotel in an isolated area of Colorado. The movie starred Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall. The hotel is completely abandoned except for a man, his wife, and their young son. The movie is a master-piece. Under Kubrick's direction, Jack Nicholson gives the greatest performance of his career.

At the end of the story, Jack realizes that blending in with society is not ideal. He regrets the past decade that was full of loss and regret when it could've been full of trust and love. People may be tempted to make unwise decisions to blend in with society. But think about it: the world is like a crowded marketplace. If you don’t stand out, you are invisible. Unique qualities define your identity. Without them, you are not yourself. At least on Qingming, the mother’s poor spirit can rest easy, knowing her son is with her in heart, but that can never make up for the years of hurt and betrayal directed at
