Seven Wonders of the World, works of art and architecture regarded by ancient Greek and Roman observers as the most extraordinary structures of antiquity. The listing of ancient wonders probably began in ancient Greece in around the 2nd century BC, but the Seven Wonders that were most commonly referred to were listed some time after that.
All built in the ancient Mediterranean and Middle East area, some time from around 2600 BC up to about AD 476, the Wonders are: (1) The Pyramids of Egypt, at Giza, the oldest of the Seven Wonders and the only ones remaining intact today. (2) The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, near Baghdad, were a mountain-like series of planted terraces. (3) The Statue of Zeus was the central feature of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Greece. (4) The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in Greece was a huge, elaborate temple to the goddess Artemis. (5) The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, a monumental marble tomb in Asia Minor, exists only in fragmentary form today. (6) The Colossus of Rhodes was a bronze statue of the Greek sun god Helios erected at Rhodes harbour. (7) The Pharos of Alexandria, on an island off Alexandria, Egypt, was a famous ancient lighthouse.

Pyramids of Egypt, pyramid complex at Giza, on the west bank of the Nile, Egypt, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is said to be the only pyramid regarded as one of the Seven Wonders, although some historians class all three famous large pyramids (of the ten pyramids at Giza) as the Wonder. Built some time during the 26th century bc, the pyramids are the oldest and only remaining Wonders to have survived almost completely intact today.
Large Egyptian pyramids were built (on a king’s instructions) to protect tombs, each holding the mummified body of a king (see Embalming). It was believed that entombment in a pyramid would ensure a person’s soul would live forever. A chamber at the heart of the pyramid, or underneath it, acted as the tomb and the Egyptians would fill this with gold and other treasures. Smaller pyramids were built alongside the larger structures to house the bodies of Egyptian queens.
The Great Pyramid was originally about 147 m (482 ft) high while the base covers around 5 hectares (12 acres) of land. Each of its sides extends to about 230 m (755 ft) in length.
The Pyramids Of Giza were chosen as they are three extraordinary structures that give a rich insight into the context, culture, function, technology, power and experiential aspects of the time period and the buildings themselves. The three pyramids showcase the Egyptian’s advanced construction and design methods, their religious beliefs and practices, their rich and diverse culture, the power of the king, as well as the context that surrounded these magnificent structures.
A pyramid is an Egyptian structure and are as old as 40,000 years old. A pyramids base can either be triangular or square this affects how many sides the pyramid has. These structures were usually made out of huge limestone blocks. The Egyptian pyramids were built using ramps which spiraled around the pyramid. The average limestone block weighed around 2.5 tons.( The great pyramids and more, 2013)

In the world today, there are many spectacular sculptures and artworks. The statue of Zeus at Olympia is possibly the most famous statue in the ancient world. ..., the interior of the temple featured sculptures of amazon warriors, also several paintings on the walls, columns of gold, silver and the statues were life size and stood on a marble pedestal. I am amazed by how much detail went into this temple and last but not least the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus wasn’t really one of my favorites seeing how in those times they married their own family members, but the Mausoleum was created in the memory of Artemisia husband or brother Mausolus.
Babylon is even home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon. They are in the plalace of Nebuchadnezzar II. Certain temples stood on sacred sites. The design of numerous temples was symbolic.
Ancient Greek civilization has been colossally compelling on the dialect, legislative issues, instructive frameworks, rationality, art and architecture of the present day world. There are three main types of Greek architecture: Dorian, Ionic, and Corinthian. Doric architecture is sturdy and plain. It was used in mainland Greece and the colonies in southern Italy and Sicily. The temple of Poseidon at Paestum in Italy is a great example of Doric architecture along with the Valle Dei Templi, Agrigento, and the Temple of Juno. Ionic Architecture is thinner and much more elegant. It has a scroll like design and was mostly found in eastern Greece and other islands. One example is the Archaic Temple of Artemis found in Sleçuk, Turkey. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and was one of the most beautiful temples built. Gibbon, a Greek architect, said, “The art of Greece was seen in that sacred and magnificent structure. It was truly a wonder of the world.” The last piece of architecture, Corinthian, was very elaborate and often decorated with acanthus leaves. There are many examples of this work because it was so regal at the time. You can find this kind of architecture at the Seat of the Universal House of Justice in Haifa, Israel, and in the Templo de Diana in Évora, Portugal; also at the Temple of Mars Ultor, Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, and even the Pantheon in Rome. Greek architecture was
During the Hellenistic period, you find the first monument built to celebrate someone who was not a general, god, or ruler. The Monument to Iysicrates is located in Athens, and is the first time a Corthinian column is used on the exterior. There was not a lot of money to spend on new temples but they still managed to build the Temple of Zeus Olympius. There is not much left of it today but it was huge. This temple was decastyle, meaning ten columns across, and the columns were sixty-five feet tall.
2. The Great Pyramid of Giza – The only one of the Seven Wonders still left standing to this day, it is also the oldest of the 7 Ancient Wonders. Located in the city Giza, a necropolis of ancient Memphis, which is now part of Cairo, Egypt. This impressive monument was commissioned by Pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty around 2560 BC, to serve as his final resting place. The great pyramid was 145.75 meters tall when constructed, but over the course of time has lost nearly 10 meters. The entrance is located on the North side of the pyramid, and once inside there is a series of passageways and galleries that lead to the Kings burial chamber. The structure is comprised of some 2 million blocks of stone, each weighing more than 2 tons, with the King’s burial chamber and sarcophagus made out of red granite.
