Characterization is the way by which writers of stories reveal their characters. In two chapters of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman titled “Passengers” and “24 Hours,” we are introduced to the character of Dr. Dee, also known as Doctor Destiny. His character is revealed through a series of events beginning with the escape from Arkham Asylum until he ends up in the 24 hour diner.
Dr. Dee’s character is revealed in two series of actions throughout these two chapters. The first one deals with his escape from Arkham Asylum. The other one deals with the incidents taking place in the diner. As Dr. Dee escapes the asylum, he kills a guard by taking his gun. On his way to escape the prison, he meets the Scarecrow, who is hanged by a rope, and tell him that “I’m going to rule the world or destroy it” (134). When he’s outside the asylum, he rides in a car with a woman called Rosemary, and he introduces himself as “I

Dee as a character develops in these two chapters. In the beginning, we see him as a weak character. As a result, we underestimate his powers. When tells Rosemary “I’m a hermetic philosopher and a scientist, too” (147), the way we perceive his character changes. At first, he stutters and seems to hesitate, but when he talks about himself, he appears to know his abilities. However, with all the power he states that he has does not make us think of him more than a villain. Gaiman was able to show us how extremely dangerous he is. By the end of the chapter titled “24 Hours,” we can only imagine what will happen later on when his character meets the protagonist of The Sandman.
In conclusion, the two chapters “Passengers” and “24 Hours” of The Sandman are very important to reveal Dr. Dee’s character. The series of actions are used to characterize Dr. Dee and make us see him very closely. I think the following chapters will be about a strong conflict between the protagonist and Dr. Dee since there is more focus on Dr. Dee than any other character in this graphic
The main character in the book The Batboy by Mike Lupica is Brian Dudley. Brian tries to solve a big problem with one of the players on the Detroit Tigers, Hank Bishop. Brian knows more about baseball than most MLB players. He tries to get Hank Bishop to be a good hitter again. Hank started going through a slump and almost nobody believed in him. He struck out or grounded out almost every time. Brian helped him get out of his slump and get to his 500 home runs. Brian had three big character traits, nervous, respectful, and helpful. His character traits affected him by making him who he is and making him a great person. Nervous changed him because he needed to tell Hank what was wrong with his swing but he waited a long time.

While reading this there were some animosity toward Dee because of what type of character she was. The animosity was caused by the numerous comments and actions that occurred in the story. She was very selfish, uneducated, and very unappreciative of where she came from. Dee carried herself in a very ridiculous way. Among Dee’s family she is the object of jealousy, awe, and agitation, meanwhile she searches for her purpose and sense of self. Dee and her judgmental nature has an effect on Mama and Maggie, her younger sister. Although she across as being arrogant and insensitive, Mama sees he strive to know more and do more. Dee also portray as being a condensing type person because no matter where Mama and Maggie lived she still kept her commitment to come and visit. Holden Caulfield is a character that most of the world can relate to. He 's funny, sarcastic, emotional, and, most importantly, innocently naïve. Throughout the novel, he displays a childlike naivety to the reader. In fact, his naivety is one of the most important themes in the provocative The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. The story is essentially about the journey of a schoolboy throughout New York City and how the journey changes him. Throughout the course of four days, Holden gets into a myriad of troubles, such as Sunny, the prostitute, Sally Hayes, a girl that Holden had previously enjoyed the company of, and finally, the brutal, unforgiving bite of the cold. Throughout the novel, Holden’s naivety, innocence, and everlasting fear
Every possible type of character is displayed in this short story. Dee starts out the story as a stereotypical light-skinned black person. Feeling as though she was better than everyone else was because her: waist was small, skin was light, a nice grade of hair, and she was somewhat educated. Dee was in a hurry to get out of the country and never come back. She wrote to her mother saying "no matter where we choose to live, she will manage to come see us. But she will never bring her friends" (Walker 63), letting everyone know that she thought she was too good to continue to take part in her heritage. Maggie was portrayed as a flat character. The reader is not told much about her, and she never changes throughout the whole story. The mother would be the static character. She is seen as an older women set in her ways from life experiences, and from what she had been taught growing up black in the south. She made up her mind that the two family quilts would go to Maggie and she did not give it a second thought. Dee is also the dynamic character round. She is dynamic when she returns home to the country. She had previously said she would not bring any of her friends home, but when she gets there she is accompanied by a gentleman. Other aspects of her dynamics are displayed when she changes her name to "Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo". She went from dyeing and hating her upbringing to wanting to take a piece of it with her back to the city. To show off where and what she comes from. Dee is truly a round character. Walker did an excellent job with these characters especially Dee.
