Every year The Salvation Army helps about 30 million people each year. They help millions of people provide shelter, help disaster survivors, overcome poverty and many more other ways to help the world become a better and more unified community. The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 in the East End of London by William Booth. William Booth was an evangelist who wanted to offer practical help to the poor and help the world become a better place. It was originally called the Christian Mission but in 1878 the name was changed to The Salvation Army. The local agency in the Metropolitan Chicago area states “We take a holistic approach to Doing the Most Good where there is the most need, without discrimination, whether it be disaster relief, emergency …show more content…

A book review in Los Angeles, California was written to show what was based on for wanting to help people back in the day till now. The article states “Almost everyone has some acquaintance, however slight, with the Salvation Army, whether it's the shelters for the homeless, bell-ringers in malls collecting for charity, a brass band playing on a street corner, or the big trucks that pick up old clothing and furniture” (Rubin LA Times). This shows that at some point someone is gonna have a problem in their life and they are gonna need help. The Salvation Army is that person to someone and maybe even right now as I’m writing this essay. To conclude, The Salvation Army was placed to help many people in need and to get them in a mental and physical state of courage to do it on their own. The Salvation Army is a great foundation that helps millions of people a year to get back up on their feet.
