There is without a doubt that the 1950s saw the rise of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, known as Chuck Berry. His musical take on rhythm and blues was a large influence on many successful artists that rose the following decade, but most notably The Rolling Stones. This paper examines the earlier musical career of Chuck Berry and how The Rolling Stones modeled themselves upon him and then expanded themselves further.
There was only one problem, he struggled to read music (PBS). Even though he had a difficult time reading and writing music, Hendrix joined his first band The Velvetones for about three months (PBS). In the summer of 1959, Hendrix finally sought out his calling and joined a new band that was called The Rocking Kings. Hendrix would never have gotten very far without his inspirations, which included the famous Buddy Holly, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, and many others. I’m here today to discuss, compare, and contrast the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, two of the best rock and roll bands from the 1960s. During the British Invasion, both of these bands had a lasting impression worldwide inspiring many of the current artists today. Although both bands are similar, they have many differences.
Who is better: The Beatles or The Rolling Stones? This is quite possibly the most debated question in the history of rock music. Unfortunately, many debaters don’t learn the facts about these two legendary bands before plunging into heated arguments about this topic. What is surprising about these two groups is that they are exceptionally alike. Though they are minuscule, there are distinctions that set The Beatles and The Rolling Stones apart.
One would think his music would be heard among today’s teenagers and young adults. However, the current teenage generation and the generation before it idolizes bands like The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, groups Chuck Berry directly influenced. The members included Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Larry Van Kriedt, Dave Evans, and Colin Burgess. The people who wanted the most success out of them were Australia’s legendary roadie Ray Arnold and his partner Alan Kissack. The two men convinced “Chequers” entertainment manager Gene Pierson to let the band play at the popular Sydney nightclub in 1973. Colin Burgess was the first member fired, and several bassists and drummers passed through the band the next year. The Young brothers decided that Evans was not a suitable frontman for the group, because they felt he was more of a glam rocker. It was Gene Pierson who arranged for Bon Scott from “Fraternity” to join them as the lead singer. (Paul Sutcliffe, Pg. 34, P.2)
In conclusion I feel authenticity in rock music has a huge part to play and although it is a very snobby culture of "we will like you until we've had enough" its still personal to every person and they have a choice to decide who fits into their perfect music world.
The Yardbirds are famous for acquiring some of the greatest blues- based guitarists of their time period. The initial launch of this English band began in the early 1960’s. The Yardbirds weren’t as famous as other bands during the 60’s, but they established the initiation that the guitar would have on other musicians. The original band members of the Yardbirds were Keith Ref, Chris Dreja, Paul Samwell- Smith, Jim McCarty, and Anthony Topham (Wenner, Jann S.). They became known as “inventors,” one of their inventions being the “rave-up,” a blues rhythm. Throughout the 60’s, this became the groundwork for all of rock music. Other bands such as Led Zeppelin, Cream, and Jeff Beck Group are all derived from three of the most dominant guitarists: Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck. Many styles of music never would have been produced if it weren’t for the Yardbirds, these including: “garage- rock, hard- rock,...
Jimmy Page played guitar, Robert Plant was the vocalist, John Paul Jones played bass guitar and the keyboard, and John Bonham beat the drums. The group had the complete set up for a band right off the start. They produced their first record in thirty hours to complete their deal with the old Yardbirds. They toured Scandinavia for awhile also to complete their obligations to the Yardbirds.

Parents called this type of music “noise.” While parents were listening to calm music, their children were listening to rock n roll.

The reason why "Paint It Black" created such a growing trend was because it wasn't the usual happy song about holding hands or being in love with a girl. The Rolling Stones wanted to take a bolder step and attack much more difficult ideas. They wanted to project the ideas that were dealt with in the real world for instinct, death, society, and politics, not just simple, easy, love that always ends as a happily ever after. The significance of "Paint It Black" was very important since, it played a major role in sociality because of the slow change to the darker themes which explained the slow change in citizens from hippies to angry, stoned discontented mobs.
