A major concern about the future is how to use all required energy without damaging the environment. Hence, this essay will show how Control and Automation Engineering can contribute with the world in that subject. Even with a large number of people thinking this engineering only brings bad consequences such as the unemployment of people, who was replaced by robots, and the pollution of the industries, it can provide efficient forms to reduce energy consumption and foment the use of renewable energy. Along the years, the necessity of electrical energy increases dramatically with the use of technologies and machines to help with daily activities, to work or to have fun. In the Industrial Revolution, this process of reducing the workforce to use machines started and problems with environment become a reality. One of them is the most energy resources used in the beginning and now: fossil fuel, which is not renewable. Beside the fact it will disappear, it brings a terrible consequence: pollution. After some decades, people started to worry about these issues, electrical and nuclear energies was developed aiming to solve the problem. If the energy consumption was a steady line probably these three (fossil fuel, electrical and nuclear) energy resources could be enough for supplying population necessities, but it is not true. The projection of the use of energy shows that it would not stop rising and expecting to not attack the planet more than it was done, the use of renewable energies such as solar, hydro, wind and biomass energy is stimulated. Despite all difficulties to think about solutions, Control and Automation Engineering provides efficient forms to reduce energy consumption and can foment the use of renewable energy. It i... ... middle of paper ... ...ed to be and to save the planet. Summarizing, Control and Automation Engineering works with high level technologies to make everything possible. Automatized process reduces the consumption of energy and increases the production, controlling bands of energy allowed, measuring and finding points to be changed and improved. Not only for industries, but also for the population that can utilize all advantages of technology, sensors and devices that do the hard job with conscience in the future. The disadvantage is the price, high-tech devices are usually so expensive, mainly just after they are invented. The option for the population is to hold on and when this knowledge disseminates all prices will decrease. Despite this difficulty, the mess will be ordered because Control and Automation Engineering is achieving their role in the world to save energy for the future.
Production has also been economised by the introduction automated production with continual processes. This allows an easy and flexible method to
Central Idea: Nuclear energy only contributes a small amount to the world’s electricity yet it has hazards and dangers that far out-way its benefits. There are many other alternative power producing sources that can produce energy more efficiently and more safely than nuclear power plants can.
After the United States developed the atomic at the end of World War II, interest in nuclear technology increased exponentially. People soon realized that nuclear technology could be used for electricity, as another alternative to fossil fuels. Today, nuclear power has its place in the world, but there is still a lot of controversy over the use of nuclear energy. Things such as the containment of radiation and few nuclear power plant accidents have given nuclear power a bad image. However, nuclear power is a reliable source of energy because it has no carbon emissions, energy is available at any time, little fuel is needed for a lot of energy, and as time goes on, it is becoming safer and safer.
Automation is a step beyond mechanization, Automation is the use of control systems and information technologies to reduce the need for human work in production of goods and services. Where mechanization provided human operators with machinery to assist them with the muscular requirements of work, automation greatly decreases the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Automation plays an increasingly important role in the world economy and in daily life. Automatic systems are being preferred over manual system. Through this project we have tried to show automatic control of a house as a result of which power is saved to some extent. The Global System for Mobile Communications
Nuclear power has grown to be a big percentage of the world’s energy. As of January 18, 2013 in 31 countries 437 nuclear power plant units with an installed electric net capacity of about 372 GW are in operation and 68 plants with an installed capacity of 65 GW are in 15 countries under construction. As of end 2011 the total electricity production since 1951 amounts to 69,760 billion kWh. The cumulative operating experience amounted to 15, 15,080 years by end of 2012. (European Nuclear Society) The change that nuclear power has brought to the world has led to benefits in today’s energy’s usage.
A revolutionary environmental impact to pollution is provided by electric cars which produce zero emissions and provide a replenishable fuel resource. Toxic emissions into our earth’s environment would be reduced immediately as gas powered, pollution emitting vehicles are replaced with non-polluting, battery powered vehicles. Not only will pollution be reduced, but the means that power these vehicles are a renewable resource. Electricity can now be created by environmentally safer means, such as hydro-electric dams, wind farms, and various types of power plants proving a sound resource. With a safer, less polluting, renewabl...
Today our society is using more energy than ever. With the increase in demand for energy, problems are presented that have to be addressed. One of the biggest and most prevalent problems is the need for clean, renewable, sustainable energy. On the forefront of these problems comes the following solutions: nuclear energy, hydro-electric energy, and photovoltaic energy. With the need of energy in today’s current world, exploring different ways of producing power are necessary. The differences and similarities of nuclear energy and alternative energy are important to look over and examine in depth, so that it is plain to see the positive and negative effects of energy production.
In this time of age, things have been consuming a lot of electricity compared to the old electrical appliances. People have been innovating different types of electrical appliances to reduce the amount of electricity used by the household such as air conditioner, refrigerator, television, and other appliances. One way of saving electricity which have been introduced in the new era is the Bio Robot Refrigerator introduced by a student from Russia, Yuriy Dmitriev, which is one of the 25 finalists in the Electrolux Design Lab competition. The competition is to challenge the entrants to redesign the modern appliances for the future.
In the Terminator film series, the Terminator is from a world controlled by robots. Technology got so advanced that Cyber Dyne Systems Skynet took over human controlled robots and nuked the world. This story is impossible in reality, but robots should not be taken lightly in today’s world. Technology in the 21st century is getting more advanced every day. Robots are used in factories and even in people’s homes. So what if the Terminator film series got it right? Human workers, that work in factories, machineries, mills, everyday human controlled jobs like cash registers operators, are being replaced by robotic automation. This is a major problem for the everyday employees. Jobs that were once held by human workers, are now being replaced every day by robot “workers”. It is not ethical to replace human employees with robotic automation and computer controlled systems. It is important to be mindful, how and when to use robotic automation as robotic automation is useful, when used sparsely. Robots are a problem for humans because, technology of robots are becoming smarter, more reliable industrial robots and drones that lead to better factory production. It is often cheaper to buy an Industrial robot or program then to train a human worker and pay them for their job. The major
We depend on energy; nothing in our daily lives could be possible without it. Electricity primarily comes from burning fossil fuels or using nuclear reactors. But the plain truth is, we are running out of fossil fuels. Our known oil deposits will run out in approximately 35 years, and if we increase the use of natural gas and coal to make up for the energy loss, our natural gas will last for 45 years and coal deposits will deplete in 75 years.
Automation started out as an assembly line of workers doing the same repetitive task all day long. Some of the jobs were very boring, dirty, unpleasant, and possibly dangerous. After the introduction of the first robot in 1961, automation began to advance in ways people could only imagine.
Since people have started to work very often and tried to do the best that they can, they have become really mechanical and they have started to behave like machines. It can be also said that people have become a part of a machine which can be defined as whole world. It is not just the working that makes us like machines, also producing, consuming make us like machines and make us behave mechanical. Everything starts to become mechanical and the whole world is just routine, now. Throughout the course, we studied many things and I would like to talk about them about human and machine relationship according to these essays and books.
In this case study I will be discussing advantages and disadvantages of electric cars. Electric cars are cars that are powered by electricity. Electric vehicles are an important part of cutting emissions and reducing global warming. The battery of an electric car stores electrical energy. The electric motor is coupled to the wheels through gears; it converts 59-60% of electrical energy into the wheels. The battery runs the motor which allows the car to move. Electric cars are necessary as they will save money, because electricity is cheaper than gas. Also electric vehicles will help reduce global warming and pollution. However, some people say that electric cars still have environmental costs. The electricity used to recharge EV batteries has to come from somewhere in the world, and now, most electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. Although electric vehicles are classified as green cars, purists will not appreciate the toxicity of the batteries.
Fossil fuels are energy that is in the form of coal, oil, or natural gas that comes from organisms from millions of years ago. The cycle to create fossil fuels takes millions of years to form and is therefore considered a nonrenewable resource of energy. Fossil fuels have been the primary source of energy for man ever since the age of machines, but one of “the main problem[s] with fossil fuels is that there is a limited amount of them” (Problem with Fossil Fuel). As countries become more developed, like the United States, they too will become more thirsty and dependent for fossil fuels. “In 2004, America spent approximately $270 billion to fufill its oil need.” and “90% of all transportation is fueled by oil” (Nakaya 10). With the global rate of fossil fuels going up it is inevitable that they are going to run out, forcing countries to choose an alternative energy source. The other huge problem with dependence on fossil fuels is the effect that the emissions have on the climate. Fossil fuels are made of carbon chains and in order for the reaction...
To conclude, robots could be the backbone of the society that will result in a technological revolution. Because of robots various characteristics that do not experience fear, nor exhaustion and they are precisely programmed, which make them able to help in case of need, housework, and factories production. Society needs to put the issue of robots into consideration to satisfy any shortage exists in the world.
