The Role Of The NAYEC In Early Childhood Education

The NAYEC is the National Association of Education for the Young Children. The position statement basically says that policy makers, the early childhood profession, and other stakeholders in young children’s lives have a shared responsibility for the curriculum, assessment, and program evaluation in the programs for children birth through age 8 (NAEYC, 2003, pg. 1). According to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, recommended curriculum should be evidence-based so that it is culturally, mentally, and linguistically appropriate for the children, where children are involved and participating with activities, but also structured upon their prior knowledge (NAEYC, 2003, pg. 2; NAEYC, 2009a, pg. 1). Effective assessment

should include should be truthful, evidences are from a range of sources over time, and benefitted to progress knowledge (NAEYC, 2003, pg. 2; NAEYC, 2009a, pg. 2). Children benefit from establishing a mutual trusting relationship with approachable and welcoming adults, such as the ability to get along with other people and regulating their emotions (NAEYC, 2009b, pg. 13). The program should be evaluated frequently for constant improvement by a trained professional in an objective approach, with goals related to families, teachers, community, and the child, and results should be shared publicly (NAEYC, 2003, pg. 3; NAEYC, 2009a, pg. 2). Teachers combine their insight along with the curriculum and the children’s interests in developing appropriate, engaging learning experiences; and they take in account the educational modules while interacting with children (NAEYC, 2009b, pg. 20).
