Many people throughout the nation have experienced racism. Racism is a huge part of every day and a huge topic. Stereotypically, when you think of racism, it often refers to African Americans. Marches, riots, and protests have been going on in order for voices to be heard about lives that have been lost due to racism. You may have heard of “Black Lives Matter”. Some people might take offense, but at this point in time, blacks are the center of racism. Recently, the NFL football players have started kneeling during the national anthem. In my opinion, I think it’s a great way to show emotion. Personally, I hate standing or saying the national anthem. It’s not that I’m lazy; it’s because I don’t believe in the national anthem. Three words stick out to me: first, indivisible- unable to divide or separate; liberty-the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views; justice- good treatment or behavior. I think that everything in those definitions that was stated is the opposite of what our world is. I think our pledge should be “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the Divided States of America, and to the republic for with it falls, several nations, under God, divisible, with no liberty and justice for some.” Some people do not like the fact that the NFL football players knelt during the anthem. People thought it was “disrespectful.” The football players were not doing it to be “disrespectful.” The NFL football players knelt during the anthem in show of defiance (open resistance; bold disobedience) against President Donald Trump. Many football players worldwide agree, and they started kneeling during the anthem. Colin Kaepernick, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, sat down during the national anthem before a preseason game. He explained his position saying, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.
