Americans believe that the media has become too arrogant, cynical, scandal-minded, and destructive. Obviously, if the public is feeling this way towards the media then it will stop being relevant. But in a consensus about the influence the media has over public opinion is massive. According to Ladd, “This literature documents several different types of media effects on attitudes. These include priming, framing, providing politically relevant information about national conditions, and direct persuasion” (570) If the media does all of the above to influence our opinions of certain situations what would happen if the media just disappeared? In conclusion, the mass media if very relevant within our society and in every democracy.
