Michael Khan was the film editor for Schindler’s List and won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. This was his second Oscar he won for best film editing, the previous was for Raiders of the Lost Ark which was also directed by Spielberg. The dominant method of editing in Schindler's List was cutting to continuity. One of the functions of continuity editing in Schindler’s List is to differentiate the condition between two circumstances in the story. This form of editing is called crosscutting. As we know that in Schindler’s List there are two groups of people involved, the Nazis and the Jews. The condition between the two groups are very different of the fact that one is colonized by the other. The crosscutting is utilized to demonstrate
some incongruity between them, about the sorrow and bigotry, love and despair, and violence and celebration which is shown at the same time. This style of editing first appears in the film when a Jewish couple is forced to move from their home into a small flat, and at the same time, Schindler is moving into that same house which previously belonged to that couple. These scenes were shown one after another and shot at the same camera distance which was a medium shot. The intention is clear, which is to build the sense that those circumstances are happening at the same time yet differentiated to one another. We see that Schindler is shot in a lying position, with his hands on his head which shows that he appears to make the most of his new house, while the Jewish couple, who already lived there, are remaining against one another in a muddled little room having a touchy discussion about their condition. If we discuss it in a bigger picture, crosscutting makes the reality in the movie more vivid. Some situations can occur at the same time although in different places. For the audience it gives them unlimited knowledge about what happened in the story more than the characters in the story themselves.

The knowledge, skills, and money lending abilities that Jews possessed allowed them to become extremely prosperous. As the crisis grew and more Jews were prosecuted, Schindler began to create more positions within his factory, these positions were fake, so he took a great leap of faith by daring to lie to those within the Nazi party. These fake positions consisted of: typist, toolmaker, and dentist. Things that a factory may have an exact need for without the fear of the Nazi questioning his need. Although despite his best efforts to cover his tracks, the SS began to question Schindler 's motive and began to grow weary of his tales, of the huge need for more workers. He also started to come under much scrutiny by those in the non-Jewish communities, because his views were very much different in comparison to his peers. Schindler had went from a man of greed, to a man of compassion. It began to raise questions but nobody dared to speak out, on their thoughts. The end result of his selfless act being, he saved the lives of over 1,200
However, Schindler’s personality changed over time as he saw the atrocities of war. His mindset changed from profiteer to philanthropist—he began to realize the effect he had on the people that worked for him. This is portrayed very candidly in the movie. When the blame for the Holocaust is brought to mind, many immediately think to blame the Nazis, and only the Nazis. This is not the case, however. The Holocaust was a lesson to humanity, of utmost importance. Only blaming the Nazis for the atrocities is excluding an exceptionally important part of this lesson, which is unacceptable. During the occupation of the Krakow Ghetto, Jews were being separated into “essential” and “non-essential” categories. Individuals selected for the “non-essential” category were to be shipped off to concentration camps. Originally completed by a Jewish accountant recruited by Schindler, “non-essential” workers were being designated as “essential” workers for Schindler’s business. Realizing he was unknowingly hiring unfit employees, Schindler berated the accountant for devising the plan and jeopardizing his profits. This incident is where Schindler is faced with his first ethical dilemma; by taking away the employment of unfit individuals, he is sentencing them to certain death, but if he allows them to remain, he is endangering future profits. From the first moment of Schindler's List to the very last, you will be amazed by the strength and resilience of the Jewish people during this horrendous time in their history. You will witness and feel their pain and horror in this very graphic, yet painfully true story. Steven Speilberg deserves all of the awards this film had brought him. It is a time in history we should never forget and pray that we will never witness again.
Schindler’s List had a great effect on me personally. I thought that Thomas Keneally did an excellent job in making the reader feel the events of the time. Perhaps what I found to be most interesting in Schindler’s List is a question of morality. I began asking myself the question, would I be as heroic as Oskar Schindler if I were in his shoes? I think that this is exactly what Keneally wanted us to do; he wanted us to look at ourselves and analyze what’s inside. Historically, I find Schindler’s List to be very important not only because it is tells of a shameful time in western civilization, but also because the events that took place in the novel occurred only yesterday. After all fifty years is almost nothing in historical terms. Perhaps the novel’s greatest strength is this feeling that the events that transpired in Schindler’s List are in fact modern history.
I wanted to film Schindler’s List for the reason that the Holocaust was a ghastly occasion in history and should not be over and done. The Jews suffered to the highest degree, they were exposed of their soul rights, treated be fond of animals, slaughtered in the vein of animals. I Intend to remind people of what the Jews had to go all the way through , how Hitler shed them out from the social order. What happened to the Jews should never happen for a second time to anyone. I chose to spotlight Oscar Schindler, because this chap did an extraordinary thing. He saved countless Jews from foreseeable imprisonment and execution. He is evidence that one being can make a difference.
