“Basketball is a beautiful game when the five players on the court play with one heartbeat.” Dean Smith. This is one of my favorite quotes for many reasons. One reason is that Dean Smith is one of my favorite coaches of all time, just because he coached at the University of North Carolina, which is my favorite college of all time, and the second reason is that the quote has meant something to me since right now in basketball we are all trying to become one team, unselfish and play together with one heartbeat. There are many great quotes out there that all have different meaning. Tonight December 8, 2016 I found out that I am leaving tomorrow to go to North Carolina to watch them play Sunday, which is kind of ironic since I choose a Dean Smith
Earl Lloyd was probably the most courageous player of all time. Some people know him as “The Big Cat” others know him as the first African-American to play in an NBA basketball game with the whites; he changed the way people think and look at basketball and black players and coaches. Earl Lloyd loved basketball from a very young age. Earl had two brothers older than him which was Earnest and Theodore. Earl was very dedicated from a very young age. With his high school team he took them to a state championship and won. After high school Earl went off and took his talents to West Virginia State College. While Earl was there his sophomore year they went 33-0 which is a perfect season. Earl’s team won back to back CIAA conference championships and tournament championships.

“Be more concerned with you character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” These words of John Wooden are just a few out of many wise quotes millions of people, not just athletes, are inspired by today and likely will continue to be inspired by for a very long time. Basketball fans and experts consider John Wooden as one of, if not, the greatest coaches of all time. Much of his success is a result of his beliefs and coaching system. Knowing the background of Coach Wooden’s playing and coaching career plays a significant role in understanding how he practiced his beliefs with his teams and how his philosophy and success intertwined to set a precedent for the remainder of collegiate basketball.
Wilt was a very famous basketball player. He played center position for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors. Wilt built a huge mansion where he would throw parties all the time because he became super rich. He played for the University Of Kansas before playing in the NBA. Wilt changed NBA history like never before seen.
Don Haskins was the head basketball coach at Texas Western College from 1961 to 1999. Growing up in the 1940s, he had a love for basketball but he lacked raw talent. His friend, Herman Carr, who was black, was a better player and they had played many games together during the course of their primary school years. Haskins was always bothered by the fact that Herman had to drink out of the coloured fountain, and use different restrooms. He did not understand why he was being treated as inferior despite being a superior player. When they graduated high school, it disturbed Haskins to learn that Herman did not receive a scholarship to attend university, simply because he was black. This was a tragic realisation that would haunt Haskins throughout his career.
When I began my report I didn’t know much about Michael Jordan, but I did know that he was “undoubtedly the greatest player in the history of the NBA'; (“Michael Air Jordan'; 1). It seemed like every time I heard the word basketball I also heard the name Michael Jordan. There’s just no avoiding him. If you are watching television you might see him playing basketball or golf. If you were reading a magazine there will probably be an advertisement with his picture. If you were walking down the street you might see a kid wearing Air Jordan shoes or a Bulls jersey with “JORDAN'; on the back of it. This man is probably as recognizable as the Pope.
Basketball, the sport that has been around for decades. An abundant amount of people play the sport. In my opinion, it’s one of the finest sports invented. The sport itself is mentally and physically challenging. I will be explaining how to play the sport, the history of basketball, and why you should play basketball.

John wooden a former player and later became a basketball coach once said. “A coach much never forget that he is a leader and not merely a person with authority.” Basketball has been something in our everyday lives for a while. To allot it something they just can't live without and others just choose to not even bother with it. I think that it is worth the time to look more into basketball. Basketball can be started at a elementary school level, and they can usually go to sign up at local boys and girls clubs maybe at their school if they offer it and can even join through their church if they attend one and they offer it to them. Being a coach seems easy to most parents but it really isn't how it isn't is a coach must ensure that players
Laying down in here, you hear this consistent knocking. You try to sleep through but it’s consistently knocking seeming as if it will never quit. Curious, you roll out of bed away from the comfort of your wife’s warm body, but you cautiously move closer step by step downstairs into the direction of the sound. Each step you take wondering whether or not your house is being robbed. You finally ease your way downstairs and quickly flipped the light switch only to find no one and your home to have no damage or evidence of a theft of any kind; however, you still hear the sound. You notice it’s coming from your front door, but it’s 3 A.M. on a school night. The hairs on the back of your neck begin to rise and your heart beats faster as you wonder who is knocking ever so violently on your front door. You remember the incident at your store where a brick was thrown through the window and how angry and frustrated the community looked for canceling a game placing a blemish on such a historical start of the season. You pull the shade back on the front door, revealing not a angered parent, but Timo Cruz, once a player on your basketball team that you haven’t seen for weeks, covered in blood. You hastily unlatch the door and invite him. At first sight, he begins muttering the events leading up to him now covered in his cousin’s blood. He tells how he scared off some bullies for the other players on the basketball team with the gun in his waistline, but only to witness his cousin slaughtered from across the street. You talk to him settling him down and offering a secure place to sleep for the night.
Throughout his life he stated some amazing and inspirational quotes including, “Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses” and “When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the
Sports are often identified to have positive influences on many individuals. The sports industry is growing worldwide, especially the basketball industry, which is regarded in second place behind football. The global prevalence of basketball is unquestionable, especially among the young. Basketball is a dynamic team sport that involves a pattern of alternating, active, and skilled movement activities. There are compound demands that require a mixture of individual skills, team plays, strategies, and motivational aspects.
I adore basketball. That also reminds me of this quote: “Athletes are driven by commitment. To their sport. To themselves. To excellence itself. Commitment fuels the extra mile. The final set. The last quarter. Going on when the body begs to stop. A winner makes commitments. A loser makes promises. Even when you’ve played the game of your life. It’s the feeling of teamwork that you’ll remember. You’ll forget the plays. The shots. And the scores. But you’ll never forget your teammates. BASKETBALL. My anti-Drug.” I like that quote, but I cannot say I fully agree with it. Anyways, I can think of many basketball lovers, but ones that truly are, will not give up on themselves. They will have the patience and the mind to dribble the ball steadily, reach for success, but capture their dreams. Life is a basketball court.
