While it is impossible to be completely autonomous, the topic encompasses so many different aspects of our lives. The concept autonomy conveys a feeling of freedom. The idea gives us the perception of having a freedom from external constraint and the impression that we have the freedom to act arbitrarily. As it is written in this paper, autonomy refers to the expansion of people’s opportunities to lead the lives that they have reason to value; and in order to reach this goal, people require the capacity to reflect about and to choose among alternative standards of living professionally and personally (Muñiz Castillo 2009).

I elicit much of my satisfaction from work, from the feeling of control over my functions and independent decision-making skills. However, recently my manager has approached many of the employee relations situations by allowing me little to no range with workplace issues. There is a gap between what I want and what I am expected to say and do, and it is causing a lot of disappointment and frustration. With that being said, I have previously worked for employers who support an increasing amount autonomy and independence, which offers me a feeling of encouragement and job satisfaction. Those employers who provide their employees with a sufficient amount of opportunities for training and development improve their employee’s opportunities to exercise discretion and autonomy in the workplace (Eaton-Walley, Lowe). The difference between those employers who do not offer such autonomy and those who do, is the enormous
Autonomy is the basis of authenticity allowing individuals the ability to make choices that directly reflect their own values. The application of these values to one's decisions can result in both positive and negative outcomes. Hedonism claims that happiness is the only thing that carries value to life. All other things (e.g. autonomy) work in accordance to improve our lives only to the extent that they make one happier (Shafer-Landau 39).
Thus, personal autonomy can be practiced when it comes to work. A person does not have to be fully on his own to be an individual. In both the child and work example, the child and workers are supported. Although they are left to do things on their own, the mother and the monk are there when help is required. Works Cited Lee, D. (1959).

Using autonomy as effective deliberation which relates autonomy as having “to do with the rationality of a person’s thought process” (Yeo & Moorhouse, 1996, p. 94), it could be confirmed using the results of the capacity assessments as evidence, that Ms. R is rational and making this decision with competent deliberation. Mr R’s decision can additionally be justified using autonomy as authenticity, which assesses the consistency of a person 's choice with their “settled dispositions, values and characters” (Yeo & Moorhouse, 1996, p. 94). Since Ms. R is a 59 year old woman who has been living alone, her choice to remain home is authentic and no different than what she has been doing

My acronym is KT and if I would choose what it would stand for then I would think it should be Knowing Tiger. The reason that I think that my acronym would stand for "Knowing Tiger" is because of how it describes me. I may not be the smartest student or the most acute but I like to think that I at the least have an admirable understanding of the subjects that are taught to me. I am a stubborn person and I try to understand the subjects that are taught to me to the best of my abilities, lest I give up. This admirable understanding would explain the "Knowing" part of my acronym.
We run into a philosophical problem when we ask the following question: Is the attitude of individuals morally significant when dealing with autonomy and self-respect? The same philosophical problem likewise applies to the question of whether or not Autonomy and
Management maintains the right to direct all business activities. In order to retain as much authority as possible in the direction of the workplace, management has sought to include certain provisions in collective bargaining agreements. Management has no rights over individual people within the organization, but does maintain rights to property, which are real and legally enforceable. Management has sole discretion and flexibility in deployment and discipline issues and maintains the right to assign measures to people within the compa...
Every morning the humanity wakes up to live. The life is controversial, so, someone is enjoying it, and others feel unhappy with every dawn. In varying degrees, every person has the choice of how to live. However, the ability to choose is sometimes not available for particular individuals. All the actions lead only to an external result, and all initiatives are vain.
Plaisance in this chapter examines concepts of autonomy and its relationship with freedom, and puts those explanations into media practice. Freedom, liberty, and autonomy are different concepts. Freedom and liberty are pretty similar which refer to one’s be free from restrain. While autonomy is a “self-rule”—it refers to a person who governs his or her own actions based on their own values. Therefore autonomy can bring up with more moral issues. All these three concepts are about freedom. But do we have free will? Research turn out to support that absolute free will is an illusion. Based on such research, it is necessary for us to look at implications of elements of moral life, and to find out the ethical obligations of autonomy. Even a more specific definition of autonomy is not always the highest good if placing too much significance on it. Colby and Damin’s study on “moral examplars”,as well as arguments of feminists, suggests that human development and individuation are sometime contradictory.
However, Welbourne (2008) states professional autonomy will depend on your professional status within your organization and thus it can be broken down into a complex concept, where the level of autonomy is part of the organizational features and also

Managers have a degree of choice in how they deal with their employees. (Purcell, 1987) Some may see them as a commodity while others may see them as an important and valuable resource needing to be developed. (Purcell, 1987) Managerial prerogative is defined by Bray, Waring and Cooper (2011: pg 332) as “those areas of decision-making within an organization over which managers claim to have an unfettered right to decide as they see fit.” It is important to define managerial prerogative so that we can establish whether the legislation has increased or diminished it. Defining managerial prerogative is also important as we look at the different managerial styles and strategies and observe if they play any role in increasing or minimizing managerial prerogative. Managers will always have some degree of control over their employees because most of the day to day tasks in the workplace such as rules and procedures of the workplace, tasks, and which employee performs which tasks are decisions made by the manager without consultation with employees and unions. (Bray, Waring and Cooper, 2011) The laws and regulations surrounding managerial prerogative have only seemed to rule in favour of employers being the sole decision makers in an organisation and decrease the amount of bargaining power unions and employees have towards pay and conditions. (Bray and Waring, 2006)
This gap between the minimal and more substantive requirements of autonomy leaves open obvious questions about the extent to which autonomous actions must be rational ; how differences over the rationality of various desires, choices, and evaluations can be settled; and overall whether autonomy is actually the core or defining value of liberalism. Some scholars for instance, think that instead of autonomy, toleration is the core commitment of liberalism. Chandran Kukathas is such a scholar. In his article “Cultural Toleration,” he provides a liberal approach for coping with the competing claims of the individual and their community.
In the recent times, job autonomy has emerged as an important requirement for the well being of the employee in the workplace. This is because several studies have shown that increase in job autonomy leads to improved job performance (Frayne, 1989; Prussia et al., 1998) .By increasing the level of freedom that an employee possesses in carrying out his day to day tasks in the manner in which he desires infuses in him a sense of confidence and makes him feel empowered. ( Latham & Frayne, 1989; Prussia et al., 1998). Loss of job autonomy can lead to major issues like constant job stress and strain that might result in affecting their personal well-being and work behavior ( Zangaro & Soeken, 2007) .
