The Roaring Twenties was a time of transformation, transition, and change in all aspect of life from the previous era. Everyday life for many people was changed. Products became cheaper and buying on credit became available. Although these transitions were made, not everybody was able to benefit from them.
Before the Roaring Twenties was the Industrial era involving the railroads evolving, which in turn allowed for the growth and expansion of industries. The growth that happened before the 1920’s made it possible for the U.S. to become a consumer-based society ("The Rise of Industrial America, 1877-1900”). “Buy now, pay later,” became the main slogan of the twenties when credit was introduced into the market. Companies wanted middle class families to be able to afford the leisure’s of life just like the upper class. This idea was what transformed into “credit.” Department Stores took part of this idea from the start along with installment
People from coast to coast bought the same clothes, listened to the same music, danced the same, and talked the same. The fact that more people lived in the city instead of the country had a big part to do with this. Social, economic, and political changes for women were astonishing. The former view that a woman should be modest changed with the era of flapper girls. This included short hair and short skirts, drinking, smoking, and saying un-lady like words. With the 19th Amendment being ratified women could finally vote. Along with being able to vote, women took white collared jobs that allowed them to partake in the buying trends of the new -economy. Birth-control was made available to women which encouraged promiscuous behaviors that would have been formally looked down upon. The invention of all the new household technology mentioned above gave women time to enjoy life the way they wanted too and to partake in the new culture of the twenties ("The Roaring
