Insert the text just before Conclusions: This is the story of a young man who left his country of origin in search of the golden fleece in the new found land of the United States of America. He gained admission into a top university to study medicine, but quit school after two years, inspite of the high grades he made. For the next couple of years, he took jobs where ever he was accepted, and found himself working in more than ten different places in a very short time. This experience bothered him to the point of determination, never to seek employment anymore, but rather work for himself. With little savings and loan from few friends, he was able to buy a car with which to run a car- hire service. Things appeared to work well for a while until suddenly, the business crashed with no cash in hand. The last resort was for him to live on welfare and food-stamps which he found most depressing and humiliating. Unknown to him, that became the turning point of his life, when he ran into an old friend at a social church fellowship. His friend was doing well in international trading business ,and so decided to let Samsom share in the knowledge of the business. Out of desperation to make a success of his life, Samson decided within himself that enough was enough. He was prepared to go the extra mile at whatever he did, and that meant a decision to talk to anyone who cared to listen. He weathered the storm with tireless energy, never to give up on any deal, no matter the threat of failure, defeat or disappointment that came his way. This was one attitude according to Samson, that made him stand apart from the crowd after four (4) years of unremitting toil and failure. By the fifth year in the trading industry, he joined the New ... ... middle of paper ... ...it and care for it. In Sam’s next face-to-face confrontation with a grownup, he doesn’t only think of a creative way to escape but rather decide to fight his way out. During his escape Sam had found a lighter on the floor, and as the giant grownup is coming towards him “he raised his hand and pressed it to the giant’s beard” (92). Earlier Sam would have frozen at the sight of a grownup, but now he is able to react and overcome an opponent much larger than he is. As a result of his triumph, his confidence grows even more. Sam starts to take on the persona of Sam the Giant Slayer, which inspires him to always fight back. For example, when he realizes that some seemingly friendly grownups are actually planning to eat him, he reminds himself that “he was Sam the Giant Slayer… and he was not going to give up without a fight” (260). Sam has become a fighter capable of surviving on his own. In his persona of Sam the Giant Slayer he is able to overcome all obstacles.
The thoughts that ran through Sammy’s head questions all of us of what led him to make the changes of his “on track” adult lifestyle. Now a responsible young adult being 19 years old working a cash register and dealing with “Sheep” [customers] doesn’t quite cut it for him. Checking out groceries for people at the A&P local grocery store for quite some time , he decides to step up and be a hero by quitting his job as a reaction for three girls being expostulated, because of their attire clothing, by his boss Lengel. However, was he becoming a “hero” for three girls or a hero for his own self finally taking the opportunity to speak up for something he has been languishing to do so.
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
Secondly, he was in debt over his head. His desire to acquire the American Dream left him with a lot of things he couldn't afford and not enough money to pay for them. Without a job, all of these things became a pit he couldn't crawl out of, and in his own words,"you end up worth more dead than alive."
...In conclusion, learn from your mistakes, remember what talents got you where you are today and success will eventually come along the way.
The American Dream is that dream of a nation in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with options for each according to capacity or accomplishments. It is a dream of social stability in which each man and each woman shall be able to achieve to the fullest distinction of which they are essentially competent, and be distinguished by others for what they are, despite of the incidental conditions of birth or stance. People consider America the land of opportunities, a new beginning to a new life in which they can strive and succeed. America is known as the land of the free where if you have the perseverance you can achieve what you want from life. However does the American Dream apply to even those of color equally? Does the American Dream favor those who aren't Caucasian but of different pigments and ethnicities? Throughout history, immigrants and people of color have been cut short from certain carriers or occupations due to their race or ethnicity. An example from history was when The Irish migrated to the United States during the Great Irish Famine in the 19th century and they were banned from finding jobs or careers. When the Americans saw the Indian citizens who became citizens based off marriage back in the day succeeding in their business careers they passed on a law that stopped the Indians from marrying Americans which made the Indians lose their land owning right and businesses. When the African American slaves were first brought onto US land, they had no other option yet to be a slave and work under the command of Americans while the Americans set out to fulfill their American dreams. Have things changed around however throughout history? In my opinion, it is more unrealistic than realistic today...
What does it really means to be successful as an immigrant? Many people today will argue that success should be measured by the amount of wealth or fame a person can have. The richer a person is, the more successful he/she will becomes to our eyes. To this day, many immigrants still relate success with the popular idea of "The American Dream", where immigrants in the 1600s were able to come to America to begin a new life, start new businesses, and successfully live happy through their hard work. However, in my opinion, success should be measure by the positive influence a person can have on other people lives. Whether a relative, a friend, or a co-worker, an immigrant could influence the life of others just by showing the importance of things
Overcoming Obstacles Throughout a persons life, they are faced with different obstacles, and different challenges of all different types. My life in particular has been full of ups and downs, especially towards my soccer career. In the novel The Pact, three boys, George, Rameck, and Sam, are faced with many obstacles throughout their lives, where they must learn to overcome and achieve great success on their own will power. Essentially, I did the same thing. My soccer career has been one of my most difficult life challenges, creating the person I am today.
