After the Seattle Seahawks' 23-0 victory over the New York Giants on December 15, I was interested in how often NFL teams travel on the road and shutout their opponent. During the game, the broadcasters informed viewers that the last time the Giants had been shutout at home was September 4, 1995, a 35-0 opening day loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Viewers were also informed that the last time the Seattle Seahawks shutout a team on the road was December 5, 2005 when they traveled to Philadelphia and shutout the Eagles 42-0. Exploring various sports news websites led me to comments suggesting that the NFL has a shutout approximately once every thirty games, on average, or about every other week. However, that takes all shutouts into account, and it certainly seems like it would be much easier to shut out a team at home than on the road. So the question about the elusive road shutout remained and since Google didn't help, I grabbed a pen and paper and went over to Pro Football Reference for a little research. What I learned was pretty interesting. Since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, there...
Over the course of the 1921 and 22 seasons, the Packers underwent a transformation where they replaced most of their local talent with players from big-time colleges or other pro teams. As a result, they were highly competitive on the field from the beginning and, in turn, able to establish a firm foothold within the league. “In 1927, when the NFL decided to cut its franchises almost in half and eliminate many of its smaller cities, Green Bay survived ,Then before the 1929 season, They hit the jackpot.”While the Packers were in the process of winning the 1931 championship, they also were blindsided by what could have been a Disastrous event. “In their second game against the Brooklyn Dodgers, a local fan, Willard J. Bent, injured his back when a section of bleachers at city stadium collapsed, and he fell nearly 10 feet to the ground”,he sued them for 5,000 dollars .On April 3, 1956, voters approved a referendum to fund the construction of the stadium. “It was dedicated on Sept. 29, 1957, and called new City Stadium until it was renamed Lambeau Field in 1965.””On Blackbourn’s watch, the Packers also drafted Forrest Gregg, Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Jim Taylor and Ray Nitschke, all future Pro Football Hall of Famers.”McLean lasted one season. He submitted his resignation under fire on Dec. 17, 1958, following a 1-10-1 finish, the worst in Packers
Next, more uproar erupted in the 1998 playoffs when an official missed wide receiver Jerry Rice's fumble, which would have ended what turned into the 49ers' game-winning drive against the Packers. Rick Reilly declares:
Are you a fan of the National Football League? Have you ever been frustrated about the overtime rules? The NFL overtime rules are a flawed system that clearly gives the advantage to a certain team. After regulation time expires, the team with the most points wins. But, if two teams are tied, the game will go into overtime, an extra quarter to decide the winner. If a team scores a touchdown in overtime, they automatically win the game in sudden death. But, if a team kicks a field goal on their first possession, the other team has one possession to win the game with a touchdown or tie the game with a field goal. If both teams kick a field goal, or if neither teams score on their first possession, the next team to score any points will win the game. If both teams are tied at the end of overtime, during a regular season game, the game will end in a tie. During the playoffs, there would be a second overtime and the game wouldn’t be determined until a team won. This is a flawed system that needs to be changed for the better enjoyment of NFL fans, and to make it fairer for coaches and play...

It was Sunday, February 10, 2008 here in Buffalo at the HSBC Arena. The Buffalo Sabres were playing the Florida Panthers. Thousands of spectators cheered as Buffalo took a 4-3 lead. The puck flew down the ice to the corner left of goaltender Ryan Miller. Players from both team rushed after the puck, 10 minutes and 4 seconds into the 3rd period Florida forward Olli Jokinen...
Playing football comes with several risks factors that players’ acknowledge prior to playing the game starting a young age. Regardless, these players still chose to play the game, which they end up loving and cherishing despite all the risks accompanied with it. Football is one of the toughest sports in the world; it takes a certain amount of strength, speed, and aggressiveness to play 48 minutes of hard-nosed football. However, the National Football League (NFL) is in the midst of a controversial issue. Is the NFL getting soft? This has been a debatable issue for several years. While some believe that implementing all these rules in the NFL is progressively turning the game soft, others say that the NFL is not getting soft; it is just trying to make the game safer for its players.
My family and I are big Giants fans, and one time, we were at a Giants game. At this Giants game, they were losing to the Redskins almost the entire game. At the end, the Giants were losing by six points, with about 5 seconds left to
The National Football League is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. The NFL was founded in 1920s and ever since then has been a representative of the "All-American, Family Entertainment, Sport". Football is played from kids starting at age five to adulthood and is very popular throughout different races and social classes. With the increase of people playing football, came the increase of the sports related injuries.
As surprising as it may be to those who are not themselves fans of the National Basketball Association, Anglo-Americans are vastly outnumbered by other ethnicities. In fact, African-Americans hold a majority of positions, command higher average salaries, and receive more attention for their accomplishments in the media. Although there are a number of Anglo-Americans employed by the NBA, few ever manage to obtain equality in the field. For example, the position of team owner, frequently held by Anglo-Americans, carries with it a much lower salary and far less prestige than would be expected. Even though the owner is technically responsible in one way or another for almost every aspect of team performance, he often receives less compensation for his hard work than many African-Americans who hold such positions as center and point guard. Clearly, this skewed system of rewards is the result of long standing prejudices against Anglo-Americans.
Equal Playing Time A high school student athlete; she gives up her social life and after school time for playing, practicing, and perfecting the sport she loves in hopes of making it to college, or an even higher level of competition. She has chased this dream for all of her life, going to camps, spending her free time sharpening her craft, becoming the athlete she visions; only to get put on the bench and replaced with someone who barely made the team and shows up to practice 2 times a week because the coach is required to give students the same amount of playing time. A player not working as hard as another does not deserve playing time benefits because the coach is required to give it to them.
On average most football players experience a concussion 3.4 times a season according to a survey in Pennsylvania conducted by Dr. Wayne Langburt. His studies concluded forty-seven percent of the players that participated in the survey claimed they had experienced a concussion. Most of these are unreported by players to coaches, which is very dangerous and risky.

The NCAA's mission statement is as follows: "Our purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount."
In the playoffs, everything counts. Every out, play, hit, walk, run, homer, everything, even the atmosphere. When teams play at home, they play in front of their own home crowd, the ones that they have been playing for all season long. The atmosphere is loud and every great play by the home team is cheered on while the road team is bombarded with echoing boos, not the greatest place to play at when you are the road team. So, does this mean that road team is at a true disadvantage and win the series? That’s what I wanted to investigate.
