During last 50 years of development, the nuclear bomb, as the ultimate weapon became the peacekeeping force on the earth. The nuclear bomb was developed in Manhattan project during the WW II and was successfully tested in the New Mexico on July 16 1945. At this point started the change of nuclear weapon from ultimate weapon to political weapon. USA decided to use the atomic bomb to defeat Japan in order to save around 500.000 lives of American soldiers that were needed to end the war and in the summer 1945 the USA dropped two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The nuclear weapon raised the confidence of USA but president Truman did not ordered its mass production because at that time he saw no explicit political function for the bomb. USA even tried to internationalize control of the bomb under the UNITED NATIONS but the Soviets were reluctant to support American plan for two reasons. To stop soviet nuclear program before developing the first soviet bomb would give Americans permanent lead in nuclear weapons technology. Soviets believed that instruments of force always have political capabilities. For the Kremlin weapons were political tools. This led Americans to the same conclusion. The beginning of Cold War created several political functions of nuclear weapons: nuclear deterrence, alliance building, and international prestige.
The Nuclear Bomb was developed as the weapon of war at the end of the Second World War. Nuclear Deterrence was than the natural function of nuclear bomb. The atomic bomb had a function of “natural deterrence” at the early beginning of Cold War when Soviets did not have nuclear weapons. The Soviets would not attack West Europe because they would risk war with USA and USA had atomic bomb that was seen by Soviets as the essence of deterrence. USA also believed that if Soviets finish their own bomb they would not be deterred by USA and its nuclear arsenal therefore the West Europe would become vulnerable. After the Soviets detonated its own bomb in September 1949, the Truman administration abandoned its policy of natural deterrence and ordered the development of more powerful hydrogen thermonuclear bomb. Since Soviet nuclear bombs deterred US deterrence, Truman sought a way to restore deterrence. He ordered a study by the Department of State’s policy planning staff and the result, NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL PAPER 68 (NSC-68), went to Tru...

The increasing proliferation of nuclear technology in areas of simmering regional conflicts increases the probability of nuclear war. During the 50 years of existence, the real function of nuclear power was changed from direct use as a weapon of war through deterrence tool to the ticket to nuclear club that means the sing of superpower.

In today’s society, many countries and even citizens of the United States question the U.S. government’s decision to get involved in nuclear warfare. These people deemed it unnecessary and stated that the U.S. is a hypocrite that preaches peace, but causes destruction and death. Before and during World War II the U.S. was presented with a difficult decision on whether or not to develop and use the atomic bomb. The U.S. decided to develop the atomic bomb based on the fear they had for the safety of the nation. In August 1939 nuclear physicists sent manuscripts to Albert Einstein in fear the Germany might use the new knowledge of fission on the uranium nucleus as way to construct weapons.
In 1945, America terrified the world by using the Atom Bomb in Hiroshima and later in Nagasaki. This fear of the most powerful weapon ever created started a cold war between America and Russia. These two great nations had started the race for the super bomb, which would have each country trying to out do the other for decades to come.
The dropping of the atomic bomb was a major turning point in United Sates history and WW2 specifically, it caused the surrender of Japan and ultimately ended the war which had been going on since 1939 two years prior to U.S. involvement. The dropping of the atomic bomb not only ended the war but lead to a fight over which nation had the most atomic weapons, a terrifying power play between countries. Through the years leading up to the dropping of the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki the United States struggles with preventing the speed of communism and intimidating the Soviet Union. Through WW2 American casualties were also adding up fast. The use of the atomic bombs was a shock strategy the government saw as the most successful was to
The atomic bomb is the subject of much controversy. Since its first detonation in 1945, the entire world has heard the aftershocks of that blast. Issues concerning Nuclear Weapons sparked the Cold War. We also have the atomic bomb to thank for our relative peace in this time due to the fear of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). The effects of the atomic bomb might not have been the exact effects that the United States was looking for when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively (Grant, 1998). The original desire of the United States government when they dropped Little Boy and Fat Man on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was not, in fact, the one more commonly known: that the two nuclear devices dropped upon Hiroshima and Nagasaki were detonated with the intention of bringing an end to the war with Japan, but instead to intimidate the Soviet Union. The fact of Japan's imminent defeat, the undeniable truth that relations with Russia were deteriorating, and competition for the division of Europe prove this without question.
When President Truman authorized the use of two nuclear weapons in 1945 against the Japanese in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II, the nature of international security was changed irreversibly. At that time, the United States had what was said to have a monopoly of atomic bombs. Soon thereafter, the Soviet Union began working on atomic weaponry. In 1949, it had already detonated it first atomic bomb and tensions began to heat up between the two countries. With the information that the Soviets had tested their first bomb, the United States began work on more powerful weapons1, and a fight for nuclear superiority had begun.
"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain tells the story of Tom, an imaginative and troublesome young boy who never passes up a chance for an adventure. The story takes place in the mid-nineteenth century in St. Petersburg, Missouri. The novel has several themes which include love, imagination, rebellion and superstition.
Tom Sawyer is the main character in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Tom is a very adventurous young man. Huck Finn is drawn from life; Tom Sawyer also, but not from an individual -- he is a combination of the characteristics of three boys whom I knew, and therefore belongs to the composite order of architecture (Twain 1). Throughout the book, Tom takes his friends on adventures that get them in a lot of trouble. Tom’s friends include Huckleberry Finn, Huck’s friend Joe Harper, and his romantic interest Becky Thatcher. Tom lives in St. Petersburg, Missouri that is located along the Mississippi river. He lives with his Aunt Polly (Sandock). Tom’s half-brother Sid, Cousin Mary, and Jim also live with him. Tom's younger brother (or rather half-brother) Sid was already through with his part of the work (picking up chips), for he was a quiet boy, and had no adventurous, troublesome ways (Twain 3). Jim is Aunt Polly’s young slave. Tom’s father is never mentioned in the book. No one knows anything about Tom’s father. Aunt Polly’s deceased sister is Tom and Sid’s mother. Tom is always trying to impress his girlfriend Becky. Tom eventually persuades Becky to be engaged at a young age (Gussow). Sometime after Becky learns that Tom had already been engaged before, h...
The development and usage of the first atomic bombs has caused a change in military, political, and public functionality of the world today. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki revolutionized warfare by killing large masses of civilian population with a single strike. The bombs’ effects from the blast, extreme heat, and radiation left an estimated 140,000 people dead. The bombs created a temporary resolution that lead to another conflict. The Cold War was a political standoff between the Soviet Union and the United States that again created a new worldwide nuclear threat. The destructive potential of nuclear weapons had created a global sweep of fear as to what might happen if these terrible forces where unleashed again. The technology involved in building the first atomic bombs has grown into the creation of nuclear weapons that are potentially 40 times more powerful than the original bombs used. However, a military change in strategy has came to promote nuclear disarmament and prevent the usage of nuclear weapons. The technology of building the atomic bomb has spurred some useful innovations that can be applied through the use of nuclear power. The fear of a potential nuclear attack had been heightened by the media and its release of movies impacting on public opinion and fear of nuclear devastation. The lives lost after the detonation of the atomic bombs have become warning signs that changed global thinking and caused preventative actions.
Truman claims the bomb use was for military purposes. Not only because he wanted to show the military power of the United States but also to save many of American soldiers lives. At the time the Germany had already been defeated and the war with Germany was over. However, war against Japan didn’t seem to stop. This made Truman think about other ways to stop the war. He urged for a new weapon to stop the war with Japan. Truman wanted a new weapon to bring the war into speedy end. Before the bomb, Japanese had many chances to surrender but they didn’t. Some of other historians suggest that it was to how demonstration of the U.S’ new weapons to the USSR (Soviet Union). By 1945, relationship between the United States and Soviet Union was destroyed. They hoped that the dropping of atomic bomb was a way to show the United States’ strength to Soviet Union. However, some argues that the dropping the atomic bomb was
When other countries realized that America held this type of power, they began the race to develop their own. We expect soldiers to be killed and injured in wars However in nearly all wars civilians also suffer because of the fighting. In some wars civilians have been killed in purpose. During the second world war the nazis organized the murder of millions of jews and slavs who said they were inferior(Hitler's Reich). It created a great amount of animosity and anger between the two nations, that still exists today. America’s atomic bombs were finished by the end of 1944---but would they work? In the south of new mexico, 230 miles from los alamos, was the remote alamogordo bombing range where the US military tried out new weapons it was here in an area code named trinity that the world’s first atomic bomb was tested. nuclear strategy, a policy for the use of nuclear weapons . The first atomic bombs were used in the context of the Allies' World War II policy of strategic bombing. Early in the cold war , U.S. policy was for massive retaliation with Strategic Air Command bombers in the event of war with the USSR. In 1949, after the Soviets exploded their first atomic device, the United States elaborated other policies, but these did not affect the ever-increasing numbers, types, and explosive force of nuclear arsenals throughout the
Mark Twain takes from his personal life experiences and views on the time period he lived in to write many of his novels including The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The novel is considered one of Twain’s most successful and will always be a popular classic. Thanks to his humorous, narrative and irreverent style, Mark Twain will always be a well-loved author. During his life, Twain wrote some of the most beloved classics like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Innocents Abroad, The Prince and the Pauper, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. By taking from his own life experiences and reflections on America coming into its own, the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain is one of the most well known classics among American culture.
Nuclear weapons were made to cause mass destruction, kill and mame other human beings. They were first used to bomb Japan in 1945 in order to end World War II. With the aftermath of the bombs 140,000 people died and detrimental effects lasted after the explosion causing cancer and other diseases (Hiroshima). Not long after the end of World War II, the Cold War arose between the Soviet Union and America and an arms race took place stockpiling more nuclear weapons. While the war lasted forty five years, no bombs were denentated because of the fear that using one would cause mutually assured destruction (Kennedy). The fear of mutually assured destruction from nuclear weapons and other weapons eventually lead the Soviet Union and America signed the INF treaty years after the Cold War, that implemented restrictions and regulations for missiles (Treaty Between The United States). Since missiles

Meanwhile, Tom and Becky go picnic in McDougal¡¯s Cave where they go lost and Tome sees Injun Joe.
Nuclear weapons are universally seen as destructive weapons and ever since its creation, this has been the case. The atomic bomb was a weapon unlike any other and its concept alone was enough for competitions between countries. This is in reference to a letter sent to the president of the United States by the famous physicist, Albert Einstein. The letter stated that Nazi Germany was planning on building an atomic bomb and he wanted the U.S to be the first to develop the nuclear weapon. With this, the U.S would eventually make the weapon before the Nazis and use it in the war against the Japanese (Nobelprize). The atomic bombs creation was made in fear of the nazis dominating the war and the U.S had now hoped to use that fear on the Japanese.
Millions of people round the globe are wondering why some nations acquired and acquiring nuclear weapons. Since during the epoch of world II, nuclear weapons have been in existence and has been used by the United States in August, 1945, against the nation of Japan. Similarly, it is one of the central issue and controversial topic for the international security when it was developed and especially in this present time. Five plus one nations (super powers) raised concerns after the cold war that nuclear weapons or nuclear arsenals might be acquired by many number of states Griffith (2005, p.606).
