The Ridiculous Six Controversy

The Frank Coraci and Tim Herlihy film The Ridiculous Six, is a comedy that stars a group of big name actors such as Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Jorge Garcia, and Luke Wilson along with an extensive list of A and B list actors. Even after undergoing a cluster of bad reviews and drama, The Ridiculous Six has broken records on Netflix by being watched more times in 30 days than any other in the streaming service’s history. Adding on to the controversy, there were a group of Native American actors that quit during the filming of the movie with the complaints of offensive names and stereotypes that were too disrespectful for them to handle. These events are what made The Ridiculous Six another one of Sandler’s record breaking films in both directions of good and bad.
An astounding amount of big name actors adds a little excitement during every scene and chapter

because you never know who is going to show up next. Excluding the main six actors that star as the rejoined brothers, the film includes a reveal of countless actors that are commonly known in the field of big industries. Steve Zahn, Jon Lovitz, David Spade, Danny Trejo, Steve Buscemi, and Vanilla Ice still make up only a small amount of the incredible list featured in the film. The list of actors are revealed in a manner that is so unexpected that it makes anyone watching laugh until the next scene, which reveals yet another random actor.
Along with the astounding amount of big name actors in the film, there was also an astounding amount of harsh criticism and controversy over the film. The film portrays the stereotypical views on the cultures included in the film. These cultures include the Native American and American Western during the Old West era. The film thought that it would be acceptable to poke fun at both of the cultures in the film by portraying the Native American as being not the smartest people in the world and having a name that fits their personality, such as “Beaver Breath”, “Smoking Fox”, and other somewhat offensive names. It also portrayed the American Western culture as “hillbillies” and mentally disabled to a degree by actor Taylor Lautner, who is also one of the main six characters that are present throughout most of the movie.
The offensive scenes and representations were apparently too disrespectful and offensive for some of the Native American actors on set because there was said to be at least four to straight up quit and leave the set of the film and not return.

A few articles in reviews and other forms of publicly accessible sites exaggerated the event by saying a few dozen quit during filming but The New York Daily News cleared up some issues by reporting that only four Native Americans left while around 150 others stayed. Of the 150 others that stayed, there were many included that were grandmas, grandpas, and children that kept working.
Nevertheless, the film The Ridiculous Six is another Adam Sandler style comedy that has viewers laughing all throughout. Along with the unbelievable amount of big name actors, the plot of the movie fits well with the amount of unexpected reveals and twists portrayed. Although there were some negative reviews and controversies, the movie is still loved by many that can see past the stereotypes and laugh throughout the movie like the writers and producers

intended.
