The Red Door I was awoken by a thump, as if the whole world shattered. I heard my mom cry my name out “Alexis!” I rushed down stairs and out on the streets of Whitecoast. People congested the streets, mumbling words. I managed to make my way to the front, and I my eyes met what the buzz was about, a door. It was a red door in the middle of the street, rusted door handle and fine detail on the wood. Nobody knew where it came from but we all knew it isn’t a good thing. The door creaked open and a letter appeared. It was handed to me. Everybody beamed at me as if I was the only thing that mattered. I didn’t know what to do “Should I open it?” I thought to myself. Everybody was shouting at me, chanting “Open it, open it.” The pressure filled my body and then I was gone, I ran as fast as I could, my home just peeking out …show more content…
I finally reached it and I locked the door, breathing as if my lungs were screaming. My mom and dad were at the table, peering at me. They asked me to come over and to sit down. As I make my way there, someone smashes on the door. My parents direct me to the table and my mother whisper “We don’t have that much time but we must tell you that you are the only one here that can save us, save the world. This door is not good; it was made by your great, great grandfather and he is still in it. If he comes out, the world, things will happen. Goodbye, the only way we can see you again is if you go into that door. You’re the world’s only hope.” “Mom, Dad!” I yell, but they were gone. If was like everything was taken away from me, slowly and painfully. Ultimately I realize I had the letter. I ran upstairs into my attack bawling my eyes out. I
The story is taking place in a prairie. The first line of pg. 47 declares that. The same page is talking about a storm might be coming. I guess, there is a ocean near the prairie. On pg. 48, I found that the prairie landscape is discomforting due to the fact that it seems alive. It also talks about the farmsteads are there to intensify the situation. That same page talking about putting fire. It is taking place during winter, and may be somewhere during December. I think, the time is during the Great Depression of 1930's. In pg. 51 we found that John's farm is under mortgage. The same page tells, He works hard too much to earn some dollars. From pg. 52, I also found, he does not appoint any helper. In pg. 52, Ann remembers about their good time as well. Now, they are not having that of a easy life. They are tired by the labour. These all quotations proves that, the setting of the story is in a hill during the great depression of 1930's.
"The Painted Door" by Sinclair Ross centers on a woman who finds herself unhappy living on the farm far away from any companionship. The story takes place in the early part of the 20th century in a rather desolate farming area in Canada during the most bitter part of the winter. In fact, during the story, a terrible blizzard breaks which becomes a major part of the story.
“Even the distant farmsteads she could see served only to intensify a sense of isolation” (Door, 48).
Ann and John, two characters from he short story "The Painted Door", do not have a very healthy relationship. John is a simple farmer who thinks the only way he can please his wife, Ann, is by working all day to earn money for her. However Ann would prefer him to spend more time with her. Their relationship is stressed even further when Ann is left at home alone with nothing to think about but their relationship because John has to go to his father’s house. The terrible snowstorm accentuates Ann’s feelings of loneliness and despair. John does not pay enough attention to Ann, and therefore creates a weak relationship.
The Narrative Structure of The Red Room In the beginning of the story, as we know the narrator is very cocky and confident. When the narrator is in the sitting room, we can see that tension starts to build up when he meets the weird and daunting old people. The description of the old people in the sitting room builds up tension, due to the gruesome description of the almost terrifying old people. They also act strange, which also adds to the amount of tension. While the narrator is on his way to the sitting room, we can see that more tension is being built at this stage, due to the explicit description of the surroundings, this increases the amount of tension by ten times, terrifying the reader, keeping the reader on the edge of their seats.

The Importance of a Painted Door. The title is what puts the story in motion. It tells and carries the weight of a piece of work, the title The Painted Door is a guide as it connects physically and emotionally to its short story. The story revolves around the door that is being painted to avoid the modernist theme of loneliness, desperation, and temptation of a new life at any cost. The Painted Door represents the choice of a new life, even if it's not the intent at the moment.
Could be that he based the story on his mother or father because they are separated
This man portrays a sad, non-confident, scared life as we can see on the lines 1 to 3. We experience first hand the lack of control, the terrorizing feelings this door holds for this child:
Finding a door to exit would become a puzzling exercise during one of their St. Albans investigations. Terri and Marie were in what is known as “the safe room,” because a large old-fashioned safe is located there. They had completed their investigation and were readying to leave the room when they realized they couldn’t. There wasn’t a door. “It was as if it had been morphed over,” said Terri. “We went around and around in circles. We were growing concerned when we made another lap and there it was. It was as if the door materialized out of nowhere,” she said.
As we walked through the woods on the dark cold night in October we notice screaming of what we had thought to be the neighbor girl. We creep closer to the large mansion and climb the gates to get in the massive front yard. As me and my friends Kevin, Douglas, and randy reach the front door, we slowly creep open the front door, we hear screams and yells and very quickly leave the situation. We head back to the house for the night and decide that we will make a plan and return to the mansion tomorrow.
There was a door that I had never gone in. It stood out in the middle
...e inside, I begin to beam. Because of what had happened my parents are talking to each other. I then close my eyes and rest.
That was when the door came down and there in the doorway was a man with a shiny red hat, that seemed to glow, it was as though its very existence radiated safety. As he picked me up from the sink and handed me to my parents, my eyes didn’t peel away from the scarlet hat. As they talked to my parents, put the door back up, I didn’t look
With that I picked up the letter, shook Dumbeldore’s hand, walked to the door opening it I saw my parents fall on the floor
