First I´m going to describe ``the character’s names in the short story ‘’The Ravine’’. They´re names are Joe-Boy and Vinny. They’re both boys and they’re both fifteen. They’re both friends and they’re both hawiian. In this essay I’ll be comparing and contrasting Joe-Boy and Vinny from the short story’’’’The Ravine’’. Second on p.g 4 in’’’’The Ravine’’, it says that Vinny doesn’t want to be at the ravine. Joe-Boy said that he wasn’t scared. It says that, Joe-Boy said to Vinny’’’’what, are you going to cry’’’’, and Vinny didn’t say anything back, so that means that Vinny’s taking it. The text showed that Vinny started to get mad. The text showed that, Joe-Boy has a girlfriend, which they’re dating, but Vinny is single. The author wrote,
that Joe-Boy pressured Vinny to go to the ravine. After reading the story, now I know that Joe-Boy is having fun but Vinny isn’t. One example from the text is, that Joe-Boy jumped the 50 ft ledge but Vinny didn’t. Third on pg 3 it says that Joe-Boy and Vinny are both boys. The author wrote that both Joe-Boy and Vinny are fifteen years old. After reading the story, now I know that Joe-Boy and Vinny are best friends. One example from the text is that Joe-Boy and Vinny are both hawiian. The text showed that Joe-Boy and Vinny both jumped from the 15 ft ledge. On pg 3 it says that Joe-Boy and Vinny both knew about the dead boy. After reading this story I´ve learned a lot of character traits about Vinny and Joe-Boy during their adventure.
The author of “The Ravine” adds textual evidence to infer Vinny and Joe-Boy’s similarities and differences. Vinny and Joe-Boy are best friends. They are not the same though. They have many differences and similarities.
In the short story, “fiesta 1980”, in the book Drown, You Or the Main character, and Narrator, faced many conflicts. The central Idea of this text is about a young boy who struggles with his relationship, and his feelings towards his father. Most of the time Papi( Yuniors dad) is hostile, and declarative, towards Yunior, and the rest of the family.
The archetypal tragedy of two star-crossed lovers, separated by familial hate, is a recurring theme, which never fails to capture the minds of the audience. It is only at great cost, through the death of the central characters that these feuding families finally find peace. This is an intriguing idea, one antithetical. I have chosen to analyze both Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet and Laurent 's West Side Story. The purpose of this essay is showing how the spoken language is utilized in these different plays to meet differing objectives. The chosen scenes to further aid comparison and contrast are the balcony scenes.
“A Wall of Fire Rising”, short story written by Edwidge Danticat, presents one man’s desire for the freedom and also, the gap between reality and fantasy which is created by the desire. Two different perspectives of evaluating the life bring the conflict between the Guy and Lili who are parents to the little guy. Throughout the story, the Guy implies that he wants to do something that people will remind of him, but Lili who is opposing to the Guy, tries to settle the Guy down and keep up with the normal life that they are belong to. The Guy is aggressive, adventurous and reckless while Lili is realistic and responsible. The wall of fire is the metaphorical expression of the boundary where divides two different types of people. One is for the people who accept their position and try to do the best out of it, and the other for the people who are not satisfied with the circumstances and desires to turn the table. Through this essay, I am going to reveal how the contradiction in an unwise idealist’s attitude and his speech, and also how it drove the whole family into a horrible tragedy as well.
...en-year-old girl”. She has now changed mentally into “someone much older”. The loss of her beloved brother means “nothing [will] ever be the same again, for her, for her family, for her brother”. She is losing her “happy” character, and now has a “viole[nt]” personality, that “[is] new to her”. A child losing its family causes a loss of innocence.
Initially, Rios illustrates a young boy perplexed by a new-found maturity. As the maturation from childhood to adolescence begins, he is facing unfamiliar feelings about the opposite sex. An example of this is apparent as Rios explains that the boy cannot talk to girls anymore; at least “not the same way we used to” (Rios 453). Since his emotions have new depth and maturity, the young boy realizes the nature of his friendships has changed. Innocence is further lost as the girls who are former friends, “weren’t the same girls we used to know” (453). The boy has matured from his casual, youthful interactions, and is now seeing the girls in a new light. Another example of his maturity manifests sexually as he reflects about the girls, “and all the things we wanted to do with them” (454). Although he is unsure how to act upon his thoughts, the innocence is none the less tainted by his desires for mature relations with the young girls. The maturity and sexual maturity bring forth a storm of emotions that prove to be both exhilarating and confusing for the young boy.
After reading about Joe-Boys character traits, it shows that he is brave. When he goes into the ravine knowing that the boy Butchie has died two weeks and one day ago. Joe-Boy walked up the cliff to the 50ft. Precipice and jumped. When Vinny fell into the mud well they were walking in the ravine Joy-Boy laughed at Vinny. “Vinny you

While reading this story, the reader may find a few things of interest. The type of language Craver put into the story gives the reader more information about the mood. The reader can infer that the story has been set in a gloomy atmosphere because of the
