Virtue is defined as a morally good and desirable quality in a person. This leads us to wonder: Do you have to actively choose to be virtuous in your lifestyle, or is avoiding evil enough to be considered as a virtuous being? Did Ransom display active virtue in Out Of The Silent Planet? Must a person be righteous to obtain virtue? Though some take the side saying that virtue is an active choice, others disagree by stating that avoiding evil is sufficient for becoming virtuous. A person must actively choose to be virtuous because humans were not born virtuous, virtue is an attribute, and the trait must be learned.
There are many different types of heroism that exist among the heroes of past and present. Heroism usually is thought of as battling and triumphing over an obstacle, or conquest of a fair-maiden’s love. But notice what this passage from the Mahabharata says about “The True Hero.”
The legend of Robin Hood includes a group of so called outlaws, and how they go about fighting and cooperating with the others in their land. Along with the death of his father, Robin left his home after it was burned down to go and live in the woods. There, he assembled an army of loyal men to help him fight against unjust laws and actions in return for shelter, food, and camaraderie. Although considered outlaws, Robin Hood and his men clearly show actions of the Knightly Code, such as: defending the weak and helpless, fighting only in just causes, and dealing honorably with opponents in battle.
This sonnet tells the struggle between youth and death, mainly how youth does not accept the idea of death. Piazza Piece, by John Crowe Ransom, is a petrarchan sonnet that tells the struggle of an older man trying to grab the attention of a younger woman. A petrarchan sonnet includes an octave, a sestet and a turn. The choice of a petrarchan sonnet enhances the story’s meaning. A man is the speaker in the first eight lines, the octave. A woman is the speaker in the last six lines, the sestet. The two speakers provide clarity while creating the obvious divide in the sonnet. This divide, found in line nine, is the turn of the sonnet. This turn develops the main message of the sonnet.
An Arthurian romance that has elements of a bildungsroman is Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The story is about the knight Gawain going on a quest in which he grows and becomes more aware of himself in relation to his character as well as others. In the beginning of the poem, Gawain is described as representing the best of the Round Table, signified by the pentangle on his shield. Each point symbolizes a different ideal that Gawain upholds as the best of the Knights of the Round Table; one point reminds him of his five senses, one point reminds him of his dexterous fingers, one point represents the five wounds of Christ, one point represents the five joys of Mary, and one point reminds him of the five virtues that he possesses including fellowship,
Although it is age-old wisdom to believe what we see, but sometimes this is not the best practice, as around 60-90 percent of people miss an object when they are focused on something else (Scientific American, Live Science). In “The Ransom of Red Chief,” two desperate men kidnap a child to get a ransom. This child ends up being a handful, and the two men are in over their heads taking care of him. Summit is a small town in Alabama. Bill and Sam knew that Summit could not track them with anything that would be able to find them. In the story, “Mystery of Heroism” by Stephen Crain, the main character Fred Collins represents heroism because he risked his life to get himself water along with his troop, he ignored the negative comments, and gave a dying man his last wish. When Crain wrote this story he intended to bring curiosity to the real meaning of heroism. Fred Collins was in need of water, so he went to go talk to his captain, “I wan’t t’ get permission to go git some water..” (Crain N.Pag.), he needed to take the risk to go get water so he doesn’t become dehydrated, he grabbed the others mens canteens on the way out. Negotiation, as we’ve learned, is the process of communicating where parties can discuss problems and/or targets and attempt to solve them via dialogue in order to reach a resolution. While many individuals feel successful negotiations are due to a natural skill, the truth behind reaching a prime agreement is preparation. You need to know the issue, know yourself, and know your party. This type of preparation also includes knowing your needs and limits, understanding what the other party wants and anticipating their limits, asking the right questions, and being creative in your counteroffers.
Death is a natural thing. It is not uncommon for people to go to extreme measures to avoid death. In recent years, there have even been famous people that have hired teams of doctors to try to insure that they won’t die. Often, the extreme measures that people take to avoid it eventually turn into their downfall, and death always prevails. The Masque of the Red Death is a short story written by the early American novelist, Edgar Allan Poe. He presents a tale about a man named Prince Prospero during the time when a horrible plague has contaminated his country. There are three main themes throughout the story. His foolishness during a time of despair causes his downfall, time continues to pass even with death, and death is inevitable no matter how rich and powerful you may be are the themes presented in the story which leads to the loss of his life and of the lives of his guests.

The short story The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe has a thematic perception of how death is inevitable. We first get a glance of this when the story mentions the countless people dying from Red Death. Which doesn 't sound like a disease but more of a malevolent entity. Poe paints a pictureof the death in the story, “scarlet stains upon the body and especially upon the face of the victims were the pest ban which shut him out from the aid and from the sympathy of his fellow-men.” This shows the inescapable grips of death that haunts all those it comes across. Even Prince Prospero and his prestige guest couldn 't escape this everlasting truth of despair they sheltered themselves from inside Prospero lofty,”castellated abbey.” Poe
Stories are have been part of every culture, some of those stories teach a way a life, others show how us a way of culture, others show how Kingdoms have been built and just like that destroyed into pieces, but the Legend of Robin Hood is different, not only because it has been around for centuries but because the legend has changed so much over the years, and with that each Robin Hood movie is way different than the last one, mainly because the historic events that were happening during the filming of the movie were strong enough to change the plot of the movie and change certain archetypes. This is because a film will have greater success if the audience can relate or connect to the plot and the characters in the movie or story.
